The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger (Spoiler Discussion)

Why would it be jarring? I also think it's a good from the perspective of Disney in the, "it's all connected".

The fan service isn't super thick already? Ahsoka has already left. Luke is a possibility, which would have some pay off with Boba and maybe him doing a bit of fighting. But my money's on Han and Ben. Especially as seeing the Falcon will pop.
You don't think it would be the slightest bit odd to go from Han canonically looking like this:

To aging 6-7 years and looking like this again (I'm sure they'd use makeup/CGI to age him were that the case, but at that point why not just deepfake Ford)?

I get the need to include Alden but it doesn't make sense for him to show up in any post-ROTJ stories. Why would they go through the trouble of de-aging Luke and not do the same thing for Han were he to come back?

To each their own then I guess, cause to my eyes they all look great.
You said you didn't understand the complaints. Does Luke look real to you? They made the decision on CGI with a TV budget, and now it's there. And now in a decade I hope they fix it.

Ahsoka I just... just compare the makeup job between her, this show's Twi'lek's and even CB himself. I'm not expecting movie quality, but I have seen better on television elsewhere. Recently, as I'm watching Star Trek Discovery for the first time. She looks like Dawson in mid-level cosplay. It's not the worst thing to happen, but the idea she looks great? There are opinions and then there just obviously judgable things. And she doesn't look great.

Everything was perfect for me in this episode. Mind blowingly good. It put me in a much better spirit (just lost my dog through an unknown sickness) and this helped me get through this tough day. Thank you so much Dave Filoni & Jon Favreau (& Co.) for loving and caring for Star Wars.

They look great to me that’s what I’m saying. If they don’t look great to you then I’m sorry that sucks. Of course there are opinions. And that’s my opinion and that’s yours so what’s the issue haha.

De-aged Luke looked pretty much seamless IMO and dude if Disney wanted to do their own standalone series with that version, I could totally see it and honestly, I wouldn't even complain at this point.

I mean who doesn't want to see more of him and Grogu together training on that very awesome looking tropical, Japanese/Samurai looking inspired planet.

Sure, they are really laying it on thick with the nostalgia and member berries as many people like to say these days, but if we can get more of this kind of quality out of these shows than I'm all for it.

Also, I'd love to see more of that Western influence in these shows like the duel between Cobb Vanth and Cad Bane because I feel like a lot of that was missing in this show as well.
Tarkin on a Rogue One budget wasn't seamless. This is not seamless:

I don't think we'll see Grogurt and Master Luke again. That little guy is choosing THE WAY, but will get to keep the lightsaber. As a parting gif. Then he'll end the Mando war himself.

The CGI on Lukes face has to be the best I've seen in the era of deepfakes. He looked absolutely phenomenal here! Not perfect, but phenomenal in comparison to what we've gotten before.

Also, am I the only one who got KOTOR vibes with the music in this episode?

Using this logic, if they taped some wrapping paper tubes to the side of her head (which they kind of did), and you said it looked great, that would be an inarguable opinion?

And it is definitely not helping that something feels off with the ADR.

My god Darth of all people never expected to have some sort of conversation like this with you. Jesus haha

Yes, it's not 100%... but considering what most action movie's backgrounds look, I'll take this 88-91% de-aged (with mouth syncing issues) Mark over looking at any generic cgi-**** show The Rock or Ryan Reynolds have been releasing since 2015.

to me as well i know some of you work in the visual efx spectrum your eyes are trained to see the imperfections to the "casual" eye this looks amazing lol

Ah I forgot about this, but it did look good here. Wasn't a big fan of this movie, so maybe that's why I didn't remember haha.
That's fair. Neither am I. :funny:

But Marvel's been doing it pretty well. Nick Fury looked pretty solid as well in Captain Marvel. Rachel in 2049 is maybe the best I've seen. If not for the modern lighting, I'd think it's her.

The ADR is weird. I get that it isn't on set. But at the same time, that's how ADR always is. So why does it sound like it's coming from an isolated box, 20 feet between Luke. :funny:

Oh yes! Wow, I'm an idiot. 2049 is one of my favorite movies of the past decade too. I always forget how seamless that looks. That's actually probably the best I've seen too, I agree. Nick Fury looked good well. The new Scream movie didn't do it well lol.

I'm starting to think that Book of Boba Fett should have just been a four episode miniseries that focused on the flashback stuff like how Boba escaped the Sarlaac/joined the Tuskens/met Fennec, etc. with setup for the Pike syndicate storyline in the last episode which would then get picked up in a crossover event movie that would essentially just be BOBF episodes 5-7 since everything that's happening now feels like a big crossover event anyway. That way you avoid the whole "forgetting about Boba in his own show" problem we've seen in the last two episodes.

What I find strange is that Grogu is Luke's first student and it's been five years since ROTJ. Shouldn't he have started training Ben by now even though he'd only be 3/4 or at least have found some other students in the meantime?

Dude was likely still learning himself. By the sound of things, he was still trying to find himself.

Also, Didn't know Luke was a fan of Shogun Assassin.

Oh they did it in the new Scream? I am so curious now. Again, not the biggest budget.

Everyone is a Lone Wolf and Cub fan here. Grogurt was going around in the cart for nearly two seasons. :D

Props to Shamook for earning his pay and massively improving the deepfake this time around. It's uncanny in places, and I'm sure it'll continue to improve in future.

That said... This Luke Skywalker haunts my very soul. There's no humanity in his performance, no life in his eyes, no passion in his simulated voice. I find it repulsive to be frank, eerie, stilted and disturbing. It seems like such a waste of Mark Hamill to be pursuing this hollow shell instead of an actual performance. Leia has already become a computer-generated spectre after Carrie Fisher's passing, and I really don't enjoy it happening with Luke.

One thing that does make me laugh is how even with all the good stuff we're being given, people still want to write paragraphs about how much they hate the sequels.
This is why my reflexive defensiveness comes out when Filoni love ins happen, even as I love a crap ton of his stuff, including last night. I need to learn to be passive. It's the Jedi way.
