Chris Hemsworth is Thor

He starts filming the Red Dawn remake in August, so probably not

He'll use a wig, most likely

I'd take an out-of-towner who can fake a convincing American accent. It's gotta be really good, though. Like, Christian Bale or Anna Friel good (I didn't even know Friel was from England until I saw her IMDB page, in fact).

I agree. It's not a big deal. Most of us are the descendants of Europeans anyhow and Captain America is a first generation American - the son of Irish immigrants. Likewise, if Hemsworth (an Aussie) can pull off an American accent, then I could definitely see him as Cap.

With that stated, I think Hemsworth makes a better Thor. He's tough looking, but also has a certain nobility to his face I think the character should embody. You don't want some redneck wrestler type like Tripple H filling Thor's boots. We're talkin' the God of Thunder here!

I'd have vomited in my mouth if Trips had won the role of Thor

Being nixed by a casting director early on means that he had never read for Branagh, Feige, and co and was likely just reading a page out of the script for a talent scout.

Him being nixed early on by a casting director and Branagh/Feige/etc being unable to take their eyes off of him and being wowed by an in character screen test are not contradictory thoughts.

Then what's the point of having a casting director? Why use one? If Hemsworth was so can't miss, why did the casting director pass on him? The biggest role in this movie and the casting director failed to get it right?

And my point was, I better not hear people such as Feige say that everyone who saw Hemsworth test, knew immediately he was the right choice because the casting director never felt that way. Lets face it, if Hemsworth's agent hadn't pushed big time for Feige to take a "second chance" on him, he never would have won the role.

And I'm not against Hemsworth in anyway. He looks great and has a good voice and build. I think he will do a fine job. I'm just pointing out that he wasn't as "can't miss" as Feige and Co. are letting on to believe.

Or that different people have different ideas about actors and the casting director just wasn't on the same wavelength as Branagh.

Because they go through hundreds and hundreds of actors, narrowing it down to just a couple dozen or so for the people who are actually making the movie to look at

As for the other questions, you'd have to ask them, not me. But this is not the first time someone in Hollywood was initially passed over by a casting director and later brought in by others involved in the project, and it won't be the last.

Feige never said that "everyone knew immediately". He said that he knew immediately.

Me too... sad thing is.... he could be cast as Conan :(
You know, I hate wrestlers who try to act like any sane person, but Conan...
Schwarzenegger at that time wasn´t exactly what people would call a thespian, he still isn´t. I don´t think that Conan, as a character, requires any acting skill at all!

on Hemsworth he did a convincing American accent in ST i thought

^He did, but it's not needed for Thor :)

Well, an Australian Norse god might seem odd. He'll probably have to fake an English accent or something.

I think an American sounding Norse God would be just as strange as an Australian sounding one. I'm sure Hemsworth will be great, though. So I'm not too worried.

I haven't seen him act, so I'm not sure how good or bad he is. The Rock turned out to be a pretty good actor, especially in comedy roles, so it's not like all wrestlers are terrible at everything else. I just wouldn't want a wrestler landing Thor as his first or second acting job. There are other popcorn movies for that.

Well the Edge wasn't ALL bad in Highlander either.

If ANYTHING dealing with the Hair issue. If you look at Highlander the series, Adrain Paul had hair EXTENSIONS the first season. So personally I'm not Worried about Chris having long hair at this point. I'm more worried about what the costume looks like.

Just read on the Splash Pages that Skarsgaard actually tried on the costume! He was VERY close to being cast.

Hemsworth must of literally blown him out of the water, this bodes well IMO.

That'll bother some people here. :funny:

It does make me feel better knowing Hemsworth beat out some stiff competition. He really must've been impressive in his audition.

Just going on record that along with a lot of you, I am still saddened that Alexander Skarsgard wasn't cast as Thor. He had the right look and more of the feel of Thor than Hemsworth, IMHO. I think Hemsworth is better suited as Cap America. Too late for a flip-flop Marvel?

I agree 100% Chris Hemsworth looks more like Cap to me?

Here is the article with Skars:

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/06/1...to-playing-thor-he-even-tried-on-the-costume/

Recently, he came this close to landing one of the most highly-sought-after star-making roles in Hollywood. But don’t feel too bad for stocky Swede Alexander Skarsgard, because he returns next week for the second season of the hit series “True Blood” — which takes a bit of the sting out of the fact that he won’t be Thor.

“Yeah, I met with [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige] a few times and the director [Kenneth Branagh],” the affable Skarsgard admitted when asked about rumors that he was one of the last people cut before Chris Hemsworth was chosen to play the Norse god of thunder. “There was definitely some truth in that, yeah.”

When I told him I thought he had the perfect look to bring the comic book hero to life, Skarsgard had a simple — and honest — response: “So did I.”

The casting process got so far along, in fact, that Skarsgard — who plays Eric Northman, a secretive vampire Sheriff on “True Blood” — even filmed an audition in the complete Thor costume, hammer and all.

“Yeah,” he remembered of slipping into the hero’s threads. “That was pretty fun.”

But, even though he ultimately lost the role to Hemsworth, Skarsgard told me that he’ll keep an open mind and remain hopeful to someday land another comic-book-based role. And, since Feige has made recent statements saying that the people he met during the “Thor” auditions could be brought back for other Marvel roles, we might still see him in Spandex and a cowl someday.

“It depends on the circumstances,” Skarsgard said of possible roles in “Captain America” or beyond. “It’s pretty hard to say [whether I’d take another comic role]. It depends on the circumstances - who the director is, and what the character is. But of course [I’d be interested in looking into it]. I think it’s every little boy’s dream; it would be a person’s dream to play an action hero.”

What do you think? Would Skarsgard have made a better Thor than Hemsworth, or did Marvel choose the right man to protect Midgard?

He'll probably end up being Captain America. He's got the recognition factor of True Blood to help some, especially with female demo. And there aren't many Americans that could pull it off. I'm sure they'll be some backlash because it's not an American actor.

^Correction there aren't too many Americans that YOU can think of off the top of your head who can pull it off, but there are PLENTY. Besides Feige said they'll cast an American as Cap.

Skars had his moment, now Hemsworth will have his as THOR!!!

Skars WONT be cap, but who can he play that actually is on marvel's radar as a future project? Cant think of any character that totally takes advantage of him being 6'3.

(BTW is there a petition for Jensen Ackels as cap or daredevil yet?):word:
