Christopher Meloni Eyed for Major Role

Maybe Lex would get jealous of Zod and want to be General Luthor mayhaps.
wtf.gif

Yeah, plus I could see him bullying any guy Lois brings home . Makes me wonder if Lennix we play The President or if he is being looked at for Jax Ur.

Speaking of Luthor:

I could easily see Lennix (head shaven) as the more modern version of corporate/ presidential Lex.

thinking snyder is gonna go for a younger, smooth, suave lex

i am 100% sure that is the role gosling turned down

Well, according to that report on CBM, he's playing "a general" so I think we can all guess what role that is.

Anyone else gradually losing interest in this movie?

I'm losing faith more than I am losing interest. Thunderbolt Lane, no thanks. Crap character and a shameless rip-off of Marvel.

Eh Like I said the character makes perfect since when were talking about a realistic origin movie. World shouldn't trust a person with so much power at first. Especially when his Superpowered enemies come and try to take over the world. They get their best guy to organize and ready the troops. Plus it's played by Christopher Meloni so you know he's gonna knock it out of the park.

I guess I could see this guy as General Lane.........or as Lex.......

In the criminal justice system, supernatural-based crimes are especially heinous. In Metropolis, the dedicated detective who investigates these vicious felonies is a member of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. This is his story.

Couldn't they use another General to fill that role? I'd rather not see Thunderbolt Lane; hopefully they use another character from the comics or make one up.

I mean I guess but the it adds a interesting dynamic between Lois, Superman, and Sam Lane. Especially if Sam dies or gets hurt. Lois would be very unsure of Superman maybe and he has to regain her trust in a sequel. Maybe Clark gets closer to Lois. Idk im not a writer but theirs a lot of ways it can go. Him just being a general would be ok but it would waste some useful story elements.

If they use Sam Lane they should tweak the character. Make it so the higher ups want to bring Superman down and Sam is just following orders. Have Lane take no joy in trying to take out Superman.

I agree. It still adds something to the Superman/Lois relationship if Superman has to take Sam and his army down.

i really feel like its going to be great if meloni is playing sam lane. its rumored that sam lane will play a huge part in mos. following the success of superman earth one, i can picture that theres gonna be alot of mistrust among the people abt supes in mos. putting meloni as sam lane means theyre making way for a younger more sleek actor as lex. which means we still be waitinf for a better cast

Where does it say it's going to be Lane? It's just speculation. Like I said before it could be General Eiling.

Eh. If their not gonna do Hulk beast thing then I think they should go with Lane. Would be awesome to see Superman vs The Hulk basically though.

Yeah, that's why I said in an earlier post it would be cool if Sam was pro Superman. He could defend Superman when talking to other government officials, and be forced into going after Superman.

But that's Bruce Banner, Betty Ross and Thunderbolt Ross. It's a total swipe from Hulk, and THAT'S what is so lame about it.

Yeah, Superman "regaining Lois' trust"? That's no good. :o

So considering he'll be filming at an Air Force Base, guess he will be a general and most likely not Lex. :csad:

Eh. A lot of characters in comics have taken cues from Superman. Superman can take one for himself. Also like Antman said, have Lane be not truly willing and wanting to take Superman down but he has too because his commanders tell him too. It gives many story line elements you can go with. If you do it that way then its kinda like The Hulk but different where it isn't a complete rip off. To be honest I would be fine either way since my boy is player the character but thats just me.

Look, I know that, realistically, if someone like Superman showed up, the government would send the military in to intervene. No one is arguing that. And I don't mind a military presence in the movie. But I'm getting bored with the "angry general who wants to lock the alien up" scenario. It's part of what made Super 8 so damned predictable. And then making it Sam Lane - a rip-off of Thunderbolt Ross, who we've recently seen in two movies - is even worse.

I'm equally getting tired of superheroes and their related characters having some sort of "father" subplot. Sometimes it's necessary, but other times it isn't. In Hulk, you had Bruce's and Betty's father wreaking havoc. Iron Man had daddy issues. In Green Lantern, you had issues surrounding Hal's, Carol's AND Hector's fathers. Now we have Superman, who already has two sets of parents to begin with. That's enough family for one movie. No need to bring in Lois' dad too. If anything, save him for a sequel.

Exactly. I hope they tweak the character so he's not a blatant knock off of Ross.

IF they use General Lane that is.

Honestly, if they do use Sam Lane, I as well hope he's not one of those "lock the aliens up rargh!" generals, and kind of breaks the mold as more of a guy just doing his job or following orders from his higher ups.

If he is Gen. Lane they need to make him look a little bit older
