Wonderful!

Kalibak is not really a general though. He's more a brute. Steppenwolf was there to carry out a specific plan. That's more tailored to his strengths. Kalibak wants to be something more in order to prove himself to his father, but he just isn't. I'd love to see Kalibak in the third film if there is one though. I want the Furies, I want Kalibak, I want it all, all hands on deck for the final battle.
Wasn't there in the work a New Gods movie writte by Tom King?

It's been reported. Don't know what's going on at the moment though.

I think WB's trying to see what Marvel's doing with Kirby's Eternals first hopefully to avoid making Kirby's New Gods too similar (or similar enough:shrug:).

Three Excalibur cast members ended up as DC villains. Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Liam Neeson as Ras Al Ghul and Helen Mirren as Hespera in the Shazam sequel.

Hinds is best friends with Neeson. Neeson dated Helen Mirren for a few years in the eighties.

Neeson is a lucky bloke.

I kinda want to see Faora and WW team up to take on the Furies.

Just out of curiosity but anyone know when exactly DC updated Steppenwolf's look to be more so alien? I still remember the Kenner action figure from the 1980's and he just looked like a normal human and I remember the comics when he kills I believe Wonder Woman he had a somewhat similar look.

If it actually *has* happened, its really recent. I remember him appearing. . . I think in Nu52? And still basically being the same "evil looking human" look he's always had, just with axe rather than a pike and red instead of green highlights to his outfit.

Which mostly reminds me at my bafflement at why they designed him *either* way for the movies. You have Ciaran Hinds, and want him to play an evil alien warlord. Why not just. . . let Ciaran Hinds play an evil alien warlord, rather than spending a bajllion dollars to either make him a giant ugly looking version of such, or a giant even uglier version of such? What was gained, on a thematic or aesthetic level, by making Steppenwolf look inhuman, and was it worth the extra cost? Were they afraid nobody would take Steppenwolf seriously as a smug invincible alien demigod if he didn't look like bad cover art from a sci-fi novel?

Probably because it wouldn’t look cool having the JL beat up an old man.

What about Wonder Woman?

What about her? Would it be cool if Wonder Woman beat up an old guy in costume? Didn’t they CGI David Thewlis in Ares mode to make him look like a threat instead of a tourist from England in the final battle of her movie. :o

The CG on Steppy is pretty damn good considering how much time they had to do it again. It looks better than the Whedon cut for one, and then they went to the effort of animating individual armor plates in quite a few scenes too. Awesome stuff.

Just saw another posting on Desaad and Steppenwolf early design from artist on instagram.

Hit arrows on each picture to flip through:

If only they knew the movie was rated R and would release on streaming they probably would've kept those early concepts for live action.

Desaad looks like Satan’s uncle.

Desaad probably is aware that Earth was the planet where they lost the war, maybe once the Boxes were awakened, and Lex Luthor established contact with Steppenwolf, Desaad realizes that this is the planet where young Darkseid (Uxas) was injured and they had to leave without the Motherboxes.

Which is why he warns Darkseid that he expects Steppenwolf to fail.

I thought it'd just be simpler to state that they knew it was Earth, but they didn't know which version of Earth it was. The multiverse and different universes are brought up in this film, so it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch to say that when you have an infinite amount of Earths across the multiverse, with only one containing the Anti-Life Equation, it'd have been tricky to remember/record exactly which one it was.

Along with that could have been when Steppenwolf betrayed Darkseid, and attempted his coup, what with him being severely injured from his fight on our Earth. A power struggle and massive internal fighting could easily contribute to them losing focus, time, and resources needed to track which exact version of Earth it was too.

I like intertwining that explanation you just gave with Zach Snyder's explanation on Uxas/Darkseid losing track of the planet antilife was at.

The 3 Apocalyptian preists likened to the 3 Furies of Mythology seem to be trapped to the boxes after they were all slain in battle while trying to join the boxes amidst the chaos of the surrounding fight going on. Darkseid wasted no time.

Their design reminds me a bit of Desaad's earlier look designwise. I think the 3 preists as seen by their Ghosts appearing as Ray tries to separate the boxes could account for some of the artificial intelligence the boxes seem to have like not activating when Superman was around as Bruce suggests at 1 point of the movie seeing that was their cue to try and resurrect Superman.
