I thought you liked Rogue One a lot Darth.

I liked it more the first night as opposed to now. I still quite like it, but it has some rather obvious flaws that pertain to character that stick out more and more. And it is such flaws that bother me more then a bad movie, because I know why they exist and how they could have been easily fixed.

Like how with TFA, as much as I love it, should of had someone read the Starkiller base attack planning scene and say, "we have to fix this". Or saw the trench run and been like, "nah".

What I fear here is RotJ, without the Luke/Vader storyline to hold up a mediocre rest of the film.

I have a feeling the story group has already been involved from the get go with writing the script. Just call it a hunch, him talking about Kiri a lot, is interesting because none of the other directors have ever really mentioned her. They have had 2 years to write the script, and it seems that they’ve not had to have three different writers on it so far like R1. So either he actually made something really good, or the story group helped him the whole time and hell maybe Kiri may get a writing credit or it’s bad. I still think he has the ability to pull it off, it is a lesser chance for sure. I would rather have someone else but we will see.

If not……we can all light bags of dog poop on fire at Kathy’s doorstep.

I still love Rogue One but do not deny its flaws, and yes many of them came from the issues they had during the re-shoots. With Rogue One they had three people writing it, and McQuarie last minute doing a re-write. I think it showed the script was never solid from the beginning. Because of that they had to scramble last minute to fix it. I don’t think they want that again. This film has already had 2 years to write the script, it will have been in production for 4 years by the time it came out. I truly have a feeling that LFL and the story group do not want another Rogue One situation and are making sure the script is tip-top shape from day one. So the second they start rolling cameras they won’t be worrying about extensive reshoots. So my hope is that we won’t get into that Rogue One territory of some clunkiness felt in the film and that they have a strong script going in right off the bat.

Colin Trevorrow: Well I think all the filmmakers on the Star Wars films have the same set of values which is that these need to be intimate family dramas, intimate fam...stories between people that are in the context of the galaxy and the minute that you rely on anything beyond that you're going to lose your compass.

The Hollywood Reporter - Colin Trevorrow Out as 'Star Wars: Episode IX' Director

Colin Trevorrow is no longer directing Star Wars: Episode IX, Lucasfilm said Tuesday.

"Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon," read a Lucasfilm statement.

Rumors of Trevorrow’s departure have dogged the project since early June, weeks before the opening of The Book of Henry, his thriller that was panned by critics and failed at the box office.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that script issues have continued to be a sore spot throughout Episode IX’s development, with Trevorrow having repeated stabs at multiple drafts. In August, Jack Thorne, the British scribe who wrote the upcoming Julia Roberts-Jacob Tremblay movie Wonder, was tapped to work on the script.

Sources say that the working relationship between Trevorrow and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy became unmanageable. Kennedy, who had already been through one director firing/replacement on the Han Solo spinoff movie, was not eager for a sequel and tried to avoid this decision.

Deadline - Might Rian Johnson Return For ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’?

EXCLUSIVE: Put Rian Johnson atop the short list of directors who might replace the recently departed Colin Trevorrow in Star Wars: Episode IX. Insiders said that nothing is done yet, but that prospect is certainly in the air right now. The Looper helmer fit seamlessly into the LucasFilm machine, which is no small feat given the number of star directors who’ve been chewed up and spat out under the “creative difference” line in exiting Star Wars movies. Deadline was first to tell you that Ron Howard was top choice to replace Lord & Miller as director of the Han Solo spinoff movie, and that came to pass. If Johnson, who directed the December 15 launching Star Wars: The Last Jedi, does in fact come back to take the reins of the next movie, it would somehow seem like destiny. When Deadline revealed that the Looper helmer was being hired to take on Star Wars, the original intention was for him to direct two movies. Stay tuned. It might come to pass.

It seems Kathleen Kennedy is more comfortable working with more experienced older directors who came up in the 80s and 90s and less the new school of talent.

Just saying. That's something all these situations sort of have in common. The newer younger directing talent are mostly getting replaced or circumvented in favor of the older veterans.

They replaced Lord and Miller with Ron Howard (63) because Lawrence Kasdan (68) wasn't liking how they are interpreting his script. Kathleen Kennedy is 64 herself and broke into the business in the 80s and was working with the likes of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorcese, her husband Frank Marshall, etc. for decades. That could be what she's more comfortable with.

I'm saying, that's the world Kathleen Kennedy knows and came up in. She didn't come up with the newer crop of younger filmmakers that have come in and are having tons of problems on Star Wars.

I suspect that after the whole Lord and Miller thing they realised that they need to make sure that everyone was on the same page and that there was a unified "vision" for the films, and this is a result of that. Ultimately its better that it happened now rather than during filming. They also need to make sure that in the future that they get everyone on the same page before they hire people.

I, like many, welcome this news. Jurassic World was such a convoluted mess of a film that I only suspect LucasFilm even considered Colin was because of the amount of money it brought it, not his directorial talent. Although we're still a few months from The Last Jedi, I'd love for Rian to finish out the trilogy.

It's weird that now it seems the cool thing to trash and hate the film. When it came out, most posters here were glowing over it.
