If it helps, "The Departed" had some of the funniest lines in any recent movie.
"F**k you."
"I'm tired from f**king your wife."
"How's your mother?"
"She's good, she's tired from f**king my father."
Comedies that are indie comedies or kind of dark with extremely subtle humor are the only ones that wil garner attention from the Academy. Right now animated comedies are the only ones that will get Oscars.
Histoy people. Learn it. The first film to sweep the big categories in the Oscars, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture, was, in fact, a comedy.
I do think comedies are underrated by the Academy, but I don't think Superbad and Knocked Up are award-caliber movies. Superbad was hilarious, but it was really just a better-than-average teenage sex comedy. Knocked Up was a mediocre movie with a predictable plot that was too long for its own good. But it had funny parts.
"It Happened One Night" It wasn't really a comedy, more of a romantic comedy. Stared Clark Gable.Histoy people. Learn it. The first film to sweep the big categories in the Oscars, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture, was, in fact, a comedy.
I know. Technically it was a screwball comedy. But screwball or romantic, is it not still a comedy? I laugh every time I watch it. One of my favorite films of all time, but then again I'm a sucker for Claudette Colbert."It Happened One Night" It wasn't really a comedy, more of a romantic comedy. Stared Clark Gable.
Only certain films have been nominated for oscars, they have to be special and different, films like the darjeeling limited will probably get nominated.
The Oscars are extremely pretentious nowadays. I thought we all knew this.![]()
If Superbad was directed by Wes Anderson it might get a nod.
Me? What have I done for you lately? How can you say that? After last night, I thought what we had was special...What have you done for me lately though? And by lately I mean the last 50 years?
The Academy does not want to acknowledge the fact that dick jokes can indeed if made right can make a better movie than some sweeping dramatic epic or some dry biopic
The 40 Year Old Virgin was funny, don't know what your'e smoking.
To tell you the truth if a comedy was to win an Oscar it should be 'Borat' it not only was the funniest movie ever, it had a message....Americans are easy to give-in to racism.
Wes Anderson can be gold, but he is like the Academy's face for Comedy, he's the guy they give a nod to so they don't have to completely give in and not be pretentious, but so they don't seem so pretentious that they won't acknowledge comedy
