The Dark Knight Rises Concerns about TDKR

The more people talk about Bane based on Batman & Robin , the more grateful I am that Nolan is going in their to fix this assumption. I always believed this film would be redemtion . Its kinda of fitting that Bane & Catwoman need the redemtion after their last films associated with them.

Bane's sorta like Venom (No Pun intended). Good character with a decent backstory. Both are supposed to be evil couterparts to their characters, and both sorta transitioned into just being thought of as big hulking monster villains. Rises hopefully will change that.

bane needs a huge reboot..and he will get one, nolan is obviously set on giving the whole franchise the well needed kick up the ass. i cant wait, and when it comes out anne hathaway will be your new favourite ......in nolan we trust...also fans are fickle

Despite the cartoon and B&R, Bane's the exact opposite of a hired muscle.

He's the "Anti-Batman." He came to Gotham because he spent his entire life n a prison and the fear of Batman makes Gotham into a prison city. He deduces that Batman is Bruce Wayne extremely quickly and develops a plan to take him out. He destroys Arkham's walls releasing all the most dangerous of criminals in Gotham forcing Batman to catch them. With Batman exhausted, Bane ambushes him in the Batcave and breaks his back, taking him out, and allowing Bane to take over the criminal underworld.

Mastermind wise he's more brilliant than Ra's in Begins. He pretty much did the same thing Ra's did, without the help of a ancient organization devoted to bringing down cities.

Also, if you're curious. Here's Unmasked, Non-Ridiculously huge Bane.

Great post.

I expect Nolans Bane to be disturbing and brutal.

I think Hathaways can do Catwoman without any problem really.

No worries here.

I'm assuming that Batman won't get his back broken otherwise I don't know how he will rise.

One of the things that concerns me is that, especially on this forum, everyone seems to think that the Nolans are infallible. "In Nolan we Trust" and "I have no concerns at all" are common phrases around here which are, in fact, rather annoying.

I will readily admit that everything thus far has been a major win for Chris, however, lets face it, every good filmmaker has his bad film. Remember how good Coppola used to be? Hell, even Spielberg made an 'Indy 4'. So let's get real. This movie is not a sure thing, and, yes, while he's a talented filmmaker and will likely have a few tricks up his sleeve, the fact that he's made what I and several others would call a mistake by casting Hathaway and including Bane could be the indication that he's starting off on the wrong foot.

Very true, but you cant really judge until you see what hes going to do

Yeah, all I can say is that Bane and Catwoman would not have been the direction I would have taken.

My first impulse about Hathaway was sort of bewilderment.. but I'm not dead set against her.

The reports that there will be a second love interest (the classic femme fatale brunette versus the proper blond) is a bit of concerning to me as well.

Throw that in with the fact that "Rises" is a lackluster, Hollywood title and that rumors abound about not using Chicago.... well, let's just say it all gives me a moment to pause.

And, I could be completely off here, but doesn't it feel like pre production on the movie is coming a bit late? When exactly are they shooting? Mid-2011, yeah? Part of me wonders if the script took longer than expected, and now they're scrambling to catch up.

My main concerns are Hathaway as Catwoman and Bane not being much of a threat to Gotham. Ras and The Joker had Gotham City on its knees and had the city in a mass state of panic and fear, Bane has never been the type of villain who wanted total domination.

:applaud LOL

But yeah, I'm quite concerned with Bane, I don't like it, by the looks of it, I think that he might be a combination of Bane and Hugo.

And with Anne Hathaway... no problem there, I learned my lesson when they announced Heath for TDK.

No concerns about Catwoman.

Bane, however, concerns me.

I have a great respect and love for this character...more than, I think, most Batfans.

I am interested in the portrayal of him. I'm iffy on what accent they'll give him. (Probably english, but King Snake was English...but Bane was RAISED in a spanish speaking nation). Also, I'm afraid they'll make him a former cop like a poorman's Lock-Up or a common assassin like Deadshot.

Also, Hardy is not and will never be big enough to bring the character to light with the physicality it deserves (yes I've seen Bronson) but Bane should be around 6'5"-6'7" and close to 300-350 lbs of lean muscle. Hopefully Nolan can rectify this with a mixture of CGI and camera trickery (or a body/muscle suit).

All in all, I'm very excited of the prospects of this film, however I am very cautious of the challenges they present.

I personally wouldn't mind a more personal, less catastrophic storyline. Not every comic book movie has to have total destruction looming, and not every sequel needs more explosions than the last.

I definitely agree, but with rumors of Nolan scouting for several different locations (Detroit, L.A., England, and some Asian countries to name a few) in addition to more shots being filmed in IMAX, it's hard for me to believe that a grander scale forces a director to sacrifice a sense of personalization and a psychological battle that Bruce/Batman has to face; he's faced it in both BB and TDK and both of those feature total destruction scenarios.

My only concern that Nolan will be to in love with what he is doing to have a good enough sense to not make it overly long like most of his flicks, and especially TDK.

What I want which addresses my concerns at the same time:

-Bale's batman voice not returning.
-Better editing and pacing
-A script that's not handing itself to me with the characters analyzing everything.
-Female characters that don't suck (At least not figuratively >.>)

Two-Face was given a proper redemption as well. :yay: Only Joker didn't need one. :funny:

As for concerns, it's hard to say whether the differences in locations really means anything. I think it's good that they're trying out new things instead of automatically going back to the same-old same-old. And we're not sure what the pre-production timeline is. Despite all the rumors, I don't think we really know anything. :funny:

And for those people concerned about TDKR being Nolan's first hiccup, I've talked to a number of people in real life (not part of any forums whatsoever) who think that Inception was Nolan's ambitious mess and that he's had much better films before, namely TDK and Memento. If that's the case, which is hard to say considering he hasn't made anything else since Inception, then TDKR should be Nolan back to form. :funny:

Looking back, killing Rachel off was the best thing about TDK. What a loathsome character. No tacked on romance subplot means only good things for TDKR.

While CW is obviously the best there can be in terms of female love interests, I will always love Rachel's character and the love interest/moral compass role she played for Bruce in these films. Her and Chase Meridian are my favorite female characters in the Batfilms so far (Meridian to a much lesser extent, though).
