Heightened perceptions would mean jack in such a case, and since he'd still be fooling them. He even got to fool Parker's spider-sense. IMO, he could handle Wild Thing.Powers: He can persuade people to do what he wants, to see what he wants and to hear what he wants.
Wow Harlekin using one of my favorite mutants, almost too much to bother debating. Well anyway I'll admit Nightcrawler's teleporting and sword fighting techniques will put JoL at a disadvantage. I'll assume Nightcrawler will have info and bring a sword or two. So JoL will probaly bring weaponry and since he knows he's fighting in space he'll make a modification to his helmet and put it oxygen tank along with making his suit into a space suit fo course. When he gets to the battle he'll pop a window or blow up a wall and watch Nightcrawler fly out and probaly teleport basck into anothing chamber and this will repeat till Nightcrawler has no more rooms to hide in.Phaedrus45 said:
Union Jack is probaly on a level of mind and body a step down from Captain America. So as one-sided as this is he can make it through. He'll use his connection to get the info he needs and after reading him he'll probaly start cussing. He knows when he's beat he makes that apparent in the recent mini. With prep time it's even better he'll bring knifes and guns. A lot fo them. He'll keep his distance because he'll know Gideon will have twice his speed, strength, and tactical abilities along with anything else Gideon snags before hand during prep. Jack'll know he needs to either, burn, decapitate, or stake Gideon. All of which he's very familier with fomr hunting vampire. He'll keep his distance, use his guns slow down and weaken Gideon till he's oput of bullets. Then he'll use throwing knifes and then finish it off with long knife slices. Eventually he'll win.Phaedrus45 said:
YEa the first issue was weak IMO but everything after that...hellz yeah!Phaedrus45 said:Gideon vs. Union Jack:
While Union Jack has gotten a humongous boost with his appearances in Captain America recently and his latest (and excellent) miniseries, this is going to be a slaughter.

You seem to forget what the Union Jack legacy is....vampires! Decapitation, burning, staking through the heart. Ya know stuff that good guys won't do. SO don't even for a minute give me that good guy garbage. Union Jack has proved time and time again he'll kill if the being proves too much a threat. And what powers does Gideon have at his home. Give me some vague details here. So, not only does it appear that Gideon can access whatever powers and abilities that Union Jack has (and his bullet-proof suit), but he can use these abilities "in ways the original owners had not yet considered." Plus, with access to genetic templates at his home and businesses, Gideon is easily able to get information on Union Jack during Prep-Time and pick the templates that best suit this match-up. (As it says, he can absorb up to six powers and use them all simultaneously.) Finally, Gideon is practically immortal. Union Jack would have to decapitate him, and since he's basically a "good guy," it's not likely that would happen.
Then figure how I feel.Hellstormer said:Wow Harlekin using one of my favorite mutants, almost too much to bother debating.
Good.Well anyway I'll admit Nightcrawler's teleporting and sword fighting techniques will put JoL at a disadvantage.
Good assumption.I'll assume Nightcrawler will have info and bring a sword or two.
Bad assumption. There's little logic to this. Blowing open Asteroid M endangers Jack as much as Nighty, even if he is carrying an oxygen tank. I also didn't know he actually had the technology to be capable of creating a friggin' spacesuit. That's no piece of cake. Lastly, this only really works on the assumption that Nightcrawler is well... ******ed.So JoL will probaly bring weaponry and since he knows he's fighting in space he'll make a modification to his helmet and put it oxygen tank along with making his suit into a space suit fo course. How dare you don't you remember he was recently in the New Invaders. Through this he met US Agent who has SHIELD and Avengers clearence. He can call him up and pretty much get all the info he needs so he'll pretty much be ready.
Yea to be completely honest I really don't wanna argue this one. I beat you in a pretty even battle already (Ch'od/Lizard) so I figure we'll call it even and let Nightcrawler free.REBUTTAL: Nightcrawler vs Jack O' Lantern
Then figure how I feel.
Good.

WINNER=NIGHTCRAWLER
Did you read the wiki? I assume this is the current Union Jack so he actually has, according to Wiki, Mystically enhanced strength, speed, and endurance. He got these powers way back in the 80s when he joined the Knights of the Pendragon.Phaedrus45 said:Steve Rogers has the Super Soldier Serum that ran through his body. Union Jack is just a well-trained soldier from Britain. I'd venture a guess that he's a BIG step down from Captain America.
I was just using the mini as an example of what he can do, he's done this kind of stuff before in his 99 mini and in the Invaders series. I mentioned the mini because it seemed to be that your read it so calm down. And why is everyone coming down so hard on the "people as resources" rule, my past debates have those along with other peoples no one's ever brought it up before. To get his information he'll go through the British files and I'm sure he can find something.Phaedrus45 said:But, he won't have connections to get the information he needs. He's not allowed to talk to other characters, like his friend US Agent, as you point out above. He can only use information that would normally be available to him. (Plus, anything pertaining to his "recent mini" is not relevant to our match.)
So how exactly will he get files on Union Jack, he wasn't in the Avengers and all the Invaders buildings have been destroyed. Really there's only a few people that know of Union Jack's existence outside of the UK and even the people in UK probaly don't know the full extent of his powers.Phaedrus45 said:The most important difference between Gideon and Union Jack is the amount of information they can each get on the other. Gideon would have all the information he needs at his fingertips on knowing Union Jack will be resorting to knives, guns and fighting skills in this match. Thus, Gideon simply has to make sure one of the abilities he mimics before arriving for the match is impervious skin. Gideon is a very rich man with many resources at his disposal. It's more than likely that he has this ability on hand at one of his locations.
God I'm tired of this crap. Why does everyone assume good guys don't cross the line. Did you read the recent INvaders series? And did you read the 99 mini? (I tihnk that's the right year) Union Jack isn't nowhere as honorable as Cap. He'll do what he has to to stay alive.Phaedrus45 said:But, Vampires are very different from LIVING BEINGS. It's one thing to kill the undead; even Captain America would do that, more than likely. Plus, Union Jack won't even know he's dealing with someone who can only be killed with decapitation.
Which version of the New Warriors? And it sounds like he came out and people saw his powers.Phaedrus45 said:Yea, I did forget this is Union Jack from New Invaders; but, as I mentioned, you cannot use other people as resources in Prep-Time. He'd be able to get zero information on my character. Gideon very much kept who he was a secret, as the following quote shows:
Until recently, Gideon kept his power a secret, preferring to work behind the scenes. However, the New Warriors, when investigating criminal links of the Taylor Foundation, caused Gideon to reveal his mutant powers and sadistic temperament. He soundly defeated them.
This also shows how powerful he really is, being able to "soundly defeat" the New Warriors.
I know he has Sunspots because he worked with him for an elongated time. Tell me exactly what powers he would use and I can make a better rebut.Phaedrus45 said:Now, as you question what abilities he is able to use, it would stand to reason that he would store these templates at one of his locations after his battles. To me, it's safe to presume he would have stored information on the New Warriors and X-Force, just to name a couple groups he came into contact with.

Yeah, I don't want a pity victory. Debate.I beat you in a pretty even battle already (Ch'od/Lizard) so I figure we'll call it even and let Nightcrawler free.
As far as I know, it's Magik's.Also when did Nightcrawler get a soulsword? Is it Magik's soulsword or just A soulsword?
Was that from the most recent 2006 OHMU? The one that's last issue was published after the contest started. That means technically you can't use it.Phaedrus45 said:I'm just going with the appearances that I've read of Union Jack. To me, he cannot compare to Captain America. I did the following research, and he has been enhanced with the "Power of the Pendragon." It says the following about these enhanced powers:
Each member was the modern day version of an Arthurian knight, and was possessed by the same ancient spirit that had possessed that knight. The Green Knight gave them powers, including heightened senses and fighting skill, the ability to speak with animals, and the ability to shoot blasts of "Pendragon fire".
But, in the latest Official Handbook, it describes his current powers as:
Union Jack's Pendragon provides superhuman strength and endurance, enhanced senses and accelerated healing. At the height of his Pendragon power, he could lift several tons, and healed broken bones overnight; presently his strength appears to be peak human. He is a superb athlete, skilled in both armed and unarmed combat.
In a range going up to seven, his powers are as follows:
Intelligence: 2
Strength: 3
Speed: 2
Durability: 3
Energy Projection: 1
Fighting Skills: 4
Just to stress to the voters, I want to repoint out the following:
presently his strength appears to be peak human.
This is mainly because he is no longer a member of the Knights of the Pendragon, but a member of the New Invaders.
Ok so how exactlycan Gideon use Super Strength, Stamina, and regen in "new ways"Now, I do want the voters to realize that whatever manifestation of this Power of the Pendragon that Union Jack has will now be duplicated and bettered by Gideon. He will know things to do with these powers that even Union Jack isn't aware of. And, it isn't like Union Jack can be too far away as to not have Gideon read his powers. This is an enclosed structure.
Wait so no one's allowed to use Avenger's files? UJ isn't a member but I thought we were allowed to use the files available to us? I might've just misread your statement. Ok so Union Jack doesn't have info on Gideon and I doubt Gideon could find more then basics on UJ.Phaedrus45 said:know it wasn't using the miniseries as part of your debate; but, since it was brought up, I felt the need to stress that this is New Invaders Union Jack. It's crucial to my debate, and if others have allowed "people as resources" to be used, it's simply because they haven't called you on the mistake. Plain and simple, US Agent cannot be used as a resource, and neither can Avenger's files. Additionally, nothing in Gideon's past would have any indication that British files would have a single thing on him. I stand by that Union Jack wouldn't be able to find any documentation on who Gideon is.
Yes but he would need to get files from someone who's worked with or fought along UJ. Just because he's loved in UK doesn't mean they all know the extent of his powers.Phaedrus45 said:Gideon was an External and a very serious business man who made it his priority to keep up an many things superhuman. Union Jack isn't someone who kept his dealings secret, and there were even two Union Jacks before him. There would be an abundance of information on Union Jack for Gideon to gain. You have to remember that Union Jack is loved by the British people. He's quite well known, especially his previous version from WWII.
If you're shooting point blank at a guy and nothing's happening I think he would start for the killshots. Now in his 98 mini (I had the wrong year). It shows him beating Baron Blood and taking on six vampires that had the jump on him. Now some of the items he was using were:Phaedrus45 said:But, as I said, it's one thing to kill a vampire, it's another thing to kill someone who you don't know who he is or what he does. Plus, there is no way Union Jack would have any indication that to kill Gideon he'd have to cut off his head.
Let's go over the New Warriors X-Force powers at the time Gideon fought them.Phaedrus45 said:If you go to New Warriors #19, without any effort, he gains the powers of Justice (or Marvel Boy), Firestar, Silhoutte, Nova, Night Thrasher, Speedball, and Namorita. And, when the bio says he defeated them with ease (using their own powers against him), they didn't even lay a scratch on him. He held them captive, and would obviously have access to any of these abilities. This doesn't even include his battles with X-Force and whatever abilities he's gained from them.
