Contest of Marvels II Thread 2

Black Tarantula (Carnage is mental, a level head will win this due to the location)
Morg (I Soooooo wanted to vote for chamber but he's out of his league here)
Surge (You debate you win)
Elektra

Elektra
Surge
Black Tarantula- Him being able to find out about Carnage's weakness id a huge advantage. I'd also like to see this fight in the comics.
Chamber

Black Tarantula - shame to lose Carnage early on but there's plenty of opportunities for BT to use his knowledge of the symbiote's weakness in this location.
Elektra
Surge
Morg

Black Tarabtula (but only by the slimist of margins. Could really go either way)
Elektra
Surge (bad draw for Headsman and his electric ax)
Chamber (I really like the idea of Morg not being able to hurt Chamber. And since Chamber can hurt Morg, even though Morg likely would never fall, he'd be doing better in the fight. For me, that takes the match...barely)

Results So Far:

Black Tarantula currently beating Carnage 6-1
Surge currently beating Headsman 7-0
Morg currently beating Chamber 5-3
Elektra currently beating Riptide 7-0

As much as I'd love (and need) the extra vote, Morg is beating Chamber 5-2...

Carnage-thought the votes would be closer it will be a shame to lose him so quick
surge
Morg
Elektra

Results So Far:

Black Tarantula currently beating Carnage 7-3
Surge currently beating Headsman 10-0
Morg currently beating Chamber 8-2
Elektra currently beating Riptide 10-0

Black Tarantula - Edge in smarts
Surge
Morg - Nice try, but too powerful
Elektra

Final Results:

Black Tarantula beat Carnage 9-3
Surge beat Headsman 12-0
Morg beat Chamber 10-2
Elektra beat Riptide 12-0

Location: Spartak (Inside the Microverse)

Here is a description of the area and a link to a website about it:

http://beyondheroes2.tripod.com/spartak.htm

In the dim past a race of farmers were driven from their homeworld, wandering as fugitives for hundreds of years as exiles among the stars. Finally they found the harsh forbidding sentient world of stone which invited them to settle. In time its harshness bred the fiercest warriors of the Microverse. Each generation the Worldmind, the very soul of the planet sends a herald comet to designate a new king of the Acroyears. The Worldmind willingly allowed itself to be sacrificed in Karza's defeat as it felt the Acroyears had become too harsh a race.

Orbit/Climate: Extremely erratic, retrograde, elliptical orbit, unpredictable, harsh and violent temperature changes.
Atmosphere: Standard glacial Oxygen/Nitrogen with minimal Carbon dioxide and high ozone.
Oceans: Solid land with no surface water/liquid.
Gravity: 100%

Crystal vs. Belasco:

This match is literally a slaughter. In fact, Crystal might very well survive; but, only because Belasco would make her a slave to his every want and desire. First, a desciption of powers.

Crystal:

Crystal possesses the ability to mentally manipulate the four basic elements of nature: fire, water, earth, and air. She does so by means of a psionic interaction with the substances on a molecular level.

Belasco:

Belasco is one of the most powerful sorcerers on Earth and possesses a wide knowledge of spells, allowing him to shoot mystical rays, control the minds of humans and animals, and transform himself and others, among other things.
He was also endowed by the Elder Gods with immortality and apparent invulnerability. The exception to this is his own sword, which was forged by the Elder Gods themselves. It was this which cut off his right arm under unrevealed circumstances.
He has also come to possess a wide knowledge of the advanced technology left by the Atlanteans in Pangea.

The location really hinders Crystal in her abilities. As it says, it's pretty much just Rock; so, she won't be able to manipulate water at all. Since Belasco is used to the firey pits of Hell, this location really suits him well. Heck, he'll probably feel right at home.

Looking at Belasco and his powers, it really questions why we have him in this contest. He is extremely powerful, possibly too powerful to be included. But, he's here and I can just be thankful I have him in my possession. This match will simply take seconds to be over. Belasco can simply take over Crystal's mind with ease; and, any assault can easily be defended with a number of spells Belasco would be able to perform. Crystal wouldn't be able to find Belasco very well, either. He can transform himself to look like a number of things, and he'd even be able to blend in with the rocky terrain.

In the end, there really is only one way to vote. I usually don't say this, but Belasco takes Crystal down with ease.

Winner = Belasco

Baron Mordo vs. Cameron Hodge:

Wow! This is a really good match-up, and I'm sure it's one that neither Ice or myself can predict the outcome for. Both characters are so good that nobody would really want to face them in the next round. For the record, this is Baron's first appearance in the contest, and Cameron Hodge fought through four rounds in Contest 1. Let the games begin!!!

First, let's look at each character's powers.

Baron Mordo:

Baron Mordo has vast magical abilities derived from his years of studying black magic and the mystic arts. He can separate his astral form from his body, allowing him to become intangible and invisible to most beings. He can project deadly force blasts using magic, can teleport, and can manipulate many forms of magical energy. He can also summon demons but they often don't do what he wants them to do.
Baron Mordo has great intelligence.

Cameron Hodge:

In his techno-organic state, Hodge can shapeshift, absorb organic and inorganic matter to rebuild or regenerate himself, and can access computers with the speed of thought.

Cameron Hodge has two advantages over Baron Mordo in this contest: One, Baron Mordo won't know who Cameron Hodge is; and, secondly, he also won't know anything about the location. As my memory serves me correctly, Baron Mordo, like Clea, lives in another dimension than our own. I've read Dr. Strange for quite some time throughout the years, and I can't remember the Baron living anywhere with access to any information, usually residing in another dimension than our own. Cameron Hodge, though, can access any computer; and, he'd be able to sift through tons of information through so many databases and find, at least, a bit of information about the Baron in his prep-time. There's even a chance something has been written about the Microverse and he'd be able to find something about Spartak (although, this might be a bit of a stretch).

What really benefit's Cameron Hodge in this match-up is his abililty to shapeshift. Nothing was mentioned about inhabitants on the planet; so, it's very likely that he could make himself to look like one of the aliens running around. If he's in a crowd of aliens, that will be enough to confuse Baron Mordo, and Hodge could then simple use the transmode virus on him before Mordo is aware he's being attacked. What works well is that the Baron won't realize he's facing a being who has the transmode virus (and, he really wouldn't even be aware of the virus), and Cameron can take Baron down before he can save himself with a spell.

Winner = Cameron Hodge

OPENING COMMENTS: FIRELORD Vs SPEEDFREAK

Firelord (ICEMAN/PSYLOCKE) bio

th_firelord.jpg

vs.

Speedfreek (POWDERMAN) bio

th_speedfreek1.jpg

Powers
Firelord possesses the Power Cosmic, which manifests itself in the form of cosmic flames surrounding his body. The most common manifestation of these powers is the ability to generate and control flames via his staff. He is capable of interstellar travel under his own power and is immune to the hazards of space. He has super strength, does not require food, water, or air to survive, and is nearly invulnerable.

Endowed with the Power Cosmic, granting him faster-than-light flight capability, super strength, virtual invulnerability, and the ability to channel cosmic flame through his eyes and staff

Speedfreek had a heavily armored metal suit, the feet of which were propelled by rockets, allowing him to fly at super human speeds (see comments). He had two long adamantium blades that he used to cut his opponents. He was heavily addicted to drugs, one drug in particular called "snap." He was a ruthless killer who felt no remorse for his victims and was never hesitant to kill, actually having fun while killing his victims.
Speedfreak attacks with adamantium blades and can fly at superhuman speed. Firelord attacks with cosmic flame and can fly faster than light. This huge speed advantage along with the invulnerability means that Speedfreek will have trouble doing any damage to Firelord.

Location
The unconstrained location allows Firelord to make use of his big speed advantage unhindered in ways that enclosed locations such as the Baxter Building (last round) would not allow.

Prep time

Firelord is unlikely to have any advantage in prep time and would have to make a guess at Speedfreek's powers based on his name (which doesn't really give the full story). I'm unsure of what Speedfreek could do in prep time so I won't comment on it.

Conclusion
Speedfreak is unfortunate to come up against one of Marvel's bug guns in Round 1 and is significantly outclassed in most areas.

WINNER = FIRELORD

OPENING COMMENTS: BARON MORDO Vs CAMERON HODGE
Baron Mordo (ICEMAN/PSYLOCKE) bio

th_baronmordo.gif

vs.

Cameron Hodge (PHAEDRUS45) bio

th_hodge2.jpg
Powers
Baron Mordo has vast magical abilities derived from his years of studying black magic and the mystic arts. He can separate his astral form from his body, allowing him to become intangible and invisible to most beings. He can project deadly force blasts using magic, can teleport, and can manipulate many forms of magical energy. He can also summon demons but they often don't do what he wants them to do.
Baron Mordo has great intelligence.
Skilled magic user,
Highly intelligent,
Energy projection,
Astral projection,
Teleportation,
Ability to conjure demons
Before his decapitation, Hodge was the commander of The Right, thus he had access to all the weaponry and resources of the organization, including a ruby quartz battle suit capable of deflecting Cyclops' Optic Blasts. The demonic being N'astirh granted Hodge immortality, that is, he is able to survive a decapitation and still function.
In his cyborg form, Hodge had the ability to phase (move through solid matter) and utilised various special weapons. His spider/scorpionlike robot body was equipped with tentacles, a powerful stinger, plasma and laser weapons, and a molecular adhesive gun, and could also fire bolas, knives and spears of varying sizes. He also possessed a high degree of invulnerability, enough to protect him from the combined attacks of Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey. This effect was supposedly augmented by external generators linked to his mainframe computer. When these had been destroyed, Cyclops and Havok could destroy his mechanical body, but not kill him.
As part of the Phalanx, he had all their typical abilities, but seemingly lost his magical protection.
Prep time
Cameron Hodge is likely to be able to find some information on Mordo's exploits. He may learn that he is a magic user of the highest order but will not learn anything that will help him defeat Mordo.

Baron Mordo is unlikely to know who Cameron Hodge is. The name even gives no clue as to what his powers may be. Given Mordo's great intelligence he will prepare for all possible attacks that he can think of (give a master magic user a full day of prep time in which to do nothing but cast spells on himself and you can imagine how powerful he will be when he walks into battle).

For example, I would anticipate defence spells such as an impenetrable (to magic, telepathy, as well as physical attack) forcefield to allow him time to develop strategies when he arrives, spells enhancing his physical and mental make up such as psychic defence, superhuman strength and speed, practise of a large variety of offensive spells so that he is ready to use these when the time comes and some kind of detection spell so that he is aware of hostile movements (within a limited range).

Location
The location is described as unpredictable, harsh and erratic.

Mordo through his magic, teleportation and astral projection abilities is much more able to adapt to the harsh conditions and any dangers the environment throws at them.

The Battle
Cameron Hodge is a great opponent for Mordo to come up against and represents a real challenge. Hodge really has only one or two methods in which to attack Mordo and neither of them will be of any use after Mordo has been through his prep time exercises. However long Hodge hides (which would be an advisable strategy), he will be forced to give himself away when he finally decides to attack and will come up against the forcefield that he wasn't expecting and will have no chance of defending against the energy projection or many of Mordo's back catalogue of offensive black magic spells. Mordo will not lose him once he makes himself known. If Mordo finds Hodge first the battle will not last long.

Baron Mordo also has a number of reserve strategies that he can choose to use at any time:

Astral projection would make him undetectable to Hodge and would protect him from any kind of potential harm.
The astral form is invisible, intangible, and incapable of being harmed except by the most rigorous mystical means. Mordo is of such mastery that he can remain in his astral form for up to 24 hours before there is any corporeal deterioration of his physical form.
His energy projection abilities would then be enough to take out Hodge as soon as he finds him.

Secondly he can call up a range of powerful demons to assist him. This is likely to be used only if the battle takes a turn for the worse as he cannot always exert 100% control over these demons. Whatever level of control he manages though, should be enough to ensure that Hodge is incapacitated/dies before any negative consequences for Mordo.

Finally, if things get too much he can teleport far enough away that the battle would effectively start from scratch. With his intelligence he will be able to formulate a new plan and call on appropriate black magic to attack and defend according to his new proposition. Teleportation would also come in useful in terms of chasing Hodge if he decides to try and escape.

Conclusion
Cameron Hodge is a great 1st round opponent but Mordo is vastly powerful and far more resourceful.

WINNER = BARON MORDO

Match 28:

Namorita (DARTHPHERE) bio

th_namorita1.jpg

vs.

Wolverine (WOLVERINE25TH) bio

th_Wolverine.jpg

Guess who's back?! Anyway, lets get this mother****er going alright, here are the breakdowns:

Namorita: Fully amphibious physignogmy and suited for high water pressure
Super strength, high speed swimming, atmospheric flight
Touch can create burning acid or paralytic toxin
Can become transparent.

Wolverine: - Regenerative healing factor

- Slowed aging process
- Adamantium-laced skeleton and retractable claws
- Superhumanly acute senses
- Superhuman strength, stamina, agility, and reflexes
- High resistance to telepathy

First of all, nothing to do witht he match itself, but since wehn does Logan have a high resistance to telepathy?

Anyway, lets get it on:

Spartak isn't conducive to Namorita's powers considering there is no water around. But the girl can still keep her own. Wolverine, we all know people think he can beta anyone and anything, thats simply, not the case.

Namorita will have to use her super strength and limited flight ability to fight Wolverine. Everybody knows Wolverine, so she will be smart about it. Wolverine is a great fighter so it will be a hard match. Namorita uses her flight to keep the distance between them and land a couple of blows with her super strength, of course Wolverine will block some of these, but he'd get hit eventually, and land his own blows. The process will keep repeating until Namorita sees an opening and lands a Rocky-esque knockout blow. Of course, Wolverine will heal back, but he will be defeated, by a girl, HAHA!

Namorita wins.
