Contest of Marvels II Thread 2

OPENING COMMENTS: Baron Mordo vs Belasco

This is an interesting match, as both are grand sorcerers in their own right, and Mordo is the only Baron I've got left Some quotations on that matter first, so I don't feel I have to repeat the power descriptions of both opponents, as they match in a lot of areas:

Abilities: Having trained under the Ancient One, Mordo is very skilled in the art of Magic, and is on par with Dr. Strange. Mordo has also gotten a helping hand from the Dread Dormammu and other evil entities, so he isn't someone non-magical heroes should mess with.

Baron Mordo is a powerful sorcerer motivated by ambition and megalomania. Though he is among the ten most powerful Earth-born sorcerers alive today, his power pales beside that of Earth's sorcerer supreme, Doctor Strange.

Powers
Baron Mordo is one of the most powerful sorcerers in existence,

Whether or not Baron Mordo is on par with Strange or not, he's still capable of regularly challenging him, and he can easily be considered a top 5 sorcerer in the ranks of the MU. After all, the pre-Unthinkable Dr. Doom was second in line to be the Sorcerer Supreme (in large part thanks to his technology) and Mordo surpasses him in magical power and ability.

Belasco himself is also an incredibly powerful sorcerer, but he has a few weaknesses here that Mordo can exploit. Not only is Belasco's power primarily linked to the Limbo dimension, and this sounds silly I know, Belasco only has one arm. As we've seen with experienced sorcerers like Spiral, an extra hand or two can really help with an incantation. Beyond that, Belasco is carrying the sword by which he lost his hand in the first place, basically his achilles' heel.

They will match in bolts of magic, and neither can mesmerize the other (which is the main trick of both, really). They're so equally matched here that it's exactly that one arm and the carrying of that sword that will make the difference. Both will know of one another, be it through a scrying pool or whatever, and Mordo will know that sword to be his weakness.

This match will take hours, and all participants in this competition can be happy that one of them won't make it into the next round. I'm not going to say Mordo defeats Belasco with easy, but he has the advantage here.

WINNER=BARON MORDO

Surge Vs Black Tarrantula

I really don't feel up to a huge debate with this match, as I don't feel either has a chance of winning next round, so I'll do my best with this post and see where it goes. My thinking is that while BT is much more experienced and physically supperior to Surge, Surge's powers give her an edge. She has spead that she can use to get around BT's physical attacks, and while BT is physically awsome, lightning is differant from punches. A good lightening storm should be enough to drop BT to his knees. If a physical assault by Bullseye can kill the man (in Bru's first Daredevil arc) then a lightening assault should be enough to take BT out.

Winner - Surge

Morg vs Electra

Hell of a tough battle but I honestly think elektra can win. Here's how

Morg is strong and powerful but he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, he's a typical barbaric warrior (albeit with power cosmic)

Elektra on the other hand is a sophisticated and HIGHLY inteligent assassin. The Vault would be easy for her to navigate and contains cells designed for the likes of the wrecking crew and Juggs. With her contacts she would certainly have info on the vault and could use these defenses to trap morg. She is trained to use far more advanced tech than the vault after all. Now I'm not saying it would hold him forver, but certainly for long enough to declare him incapacitated.

WINNER: ELEKTRA!

p.s. Remember to stay strong and stick to the principal of Debate = win :D

Elektra (HIPPY FASCIST) bio

LAWL! How embarassing. Yes' I'm back folk and here to stay. Ok, down to breakdowns:

Morg: Endowed with the Power Cosmic, granting superhuman strength, endurance, stamina and the ability to channel powerful energy blasts through his axe

Elektra: Skilled in the martial arts and bladed weapons as well as gymnastics

Tough match, but I'm sure Morg will take some time off from playing his new Nintendo Wii to beat Elektra soundly.

Sorry Hippy, but Elektra really has no chance here. I mean, even if this was dead, but not really dead, resurrected, slightly supernatural Elektra, Morg just rips her a new *******. She'll be wishing all she was getting was a Luke Cage kick to the crotch. :csad:

Morg wins.

Match 14:

Firelord (DARTHPHERE) bio

vs.

Wolverine (ZOKEN) bio

th_Wolverine.jpg

****, I really hate Wolverine. A little breakdown music please:

Firelord:Power Cosmic grants: Flight,
Superhuman strength and physical resistance,
Ability to channel cosmic flame through eyes and staff

Wolverine: Regenerative healing factor,
Slowed aging process,
Retractable bone claws,
Adamantium laced skeletal structure
Superhuman strength, stamina, agility, reflexes, and senses
Resistance to telepathy

Really, Firelord's flight removes any chance Wolverine has to mount an offense in this match. Contrary to popular belief, Wolverine is not unbeatable.

Firelord just needs to fly around, and yes, there would be room in the Vault to fly around in. Hit Wolverine over and over with some cosmic flame and Wolverine is down for the count, or until Guggenheim writes him again.

Firelord wins.

Wow. I'm glad I spent that 5.99 to get on the internet and vote, especially since some people didn't vote in all the threads this week, again. It was a good match, just sorry I wasn't available to debate it proper, Harlekin. Although, it was a hard match to debate, since our characters were so similiar.

Match 16:

Karima Shapandar (MIDNIGHT ICE) bio

th_104665-karima-shapandar_150.jpg

vs.

Mr. Sinister (AHURA MAZDA) bio

th_mrsinister-1.gif

This is almost an interesting battle but Karima is at a disadvantage here:

First of all, Siniister's powers:

Mr. Sinister is no b-rate villain. He is a very powerful superhuman being who is a genius. His powers are as follows:

Shape Shifting - Sinister has total control over his body's cellular structure, allowing him to peform limited shapeshiftng. He can assume the form of any one he wishes, and once reduced himself into a semi-liquid state.

Superhuman Strength - At times, he has demonstrated superhuman strength.

Resistance / Regenration - He has frequently shown a remarkable resistance to injury and excellent regenerative abilities—he has survived having a large hole shot through his head, and apparently survived having the flesh blasted off his bones at the climax of the Inferno story arc.

Telepath - He has also demonstrated reasonably strong telepathic powers in the past, including the ability to mentally paralyze a foe he’s touching, erasing the memories of Jean Grey at the end of the Inferno arc, and being able to withstand a psychic assault from Psylocke, a high-level telepath.

Telekinetic - He has also exhibited some minor telekinetic abilities, such as mentally moving objects and firing blasts of concussive force from his hands or from the diamond-shaped scarlet mark on his forehead. He was believed to possess the power of teleportation, but it was revealed this was not an innate ability, but a function of his tesseract headquarters, which was far bigger on the inside than on the outside (like the TARDIS from the television series Doctor Who).

Genius - Sinister is a genius and a geneticist of the highest order, able to predict genetic mutations and splice DNA. (Originally, he was genetically altered by Apocalypse, since then, it is quite probable that his other abilities are the result of self-experimentation—his shapeshiftng power is due to a procedure he performed on himself with help from a time-traveling Gambit.) He possesses a good deal of knowledge in psychology, and is a skilled manipulator.

He will also be very equipped.

Karima is a prime sentinel but is prone to telepathics given she was taken out by Xavier. Sinister is a powerful telepath with a multitude of other powers. He is also not a mutant which plays a major role in this battle. She will not be able to sense Mr. Sinister who can shape change to pretty much any form.

All he has to do is touch her to make her his and this is not so difficult giving all the powers he holds.

Winner - Mr. Sinister

Korath vs. Joystick:

The bios:

Korath:

Korath is a brilliant geneticist. After implementing the Pursuer template on himself, Korath gained enhanced strength and durability to an unknown degree, uses full body armor, uses jet propelled boots which allow him to fly, and has increased advance scanners that can pick up anomalous brain patters or power levels. He also employs the use of two "beta batons," which fire very powerful energy blasts capable of knocking out an Eternal, like Sersi. He also claims to be trained in the ways of Ancient Kree.

Joystick:

Joystick apparently possesses superhuman strength sufficient to press roughly ten tons, speed, and agility roughly equivalent to that of Spider-Man. The source of these powers remains unknown. She also wears metal devices on her wrists, each of which generates a "baton" of coherent energy, powered by strontium chips. These batons can be swung or hurled with great concussive force, sufficient to damage concrete. In addition, by striking the batons against one another, Joystick can project a powerful concussive force beam at a target, and possesses wires to hack into computers within her gauntlets. Her costume formerly contained an explosive device which would be activated with a 2 minute countdown by the controllers of the Great Game. The mechanism of the devices is unknown, as is their exact composition.

I don't think either will find out a lot of information about the other. Korath is definitely in different circles than Joystick, and Korath obviously could care less about regular, less-powerful superheroes on Earth 616. Joystick could find out information about Madripoor; but, it won't do her much good. As Korath's bio states, Korath "has increased advance scanners that can pick up anomalous brain patters or power levels," and will be able to find Joystick almost automatically. Comparing power levels of Korath compared to Joystick, it's like apples and oranges. His durability is much, much more than Joystick, and his ability to fly can keep him out of her grasp or range.

Winner = Korath

Stryfe (PRIMEMOVER) bio

th_stryfe-1.jpg

VS.

Sauron (KYTRIGGER) bio

th_Sauron_002.jpg
Okay, so this is actually a very good match-up.

Stryfe is a very powerful telepath and can telekinetic. He is more powerful than Prof. X, but was never really trained by anyone, so he isn't as good technically. He usually just depends on his raw overpower than to try and finesse things.

Sauron can hypnotise, turn into a pterodactyl, drain someone's life force (and get their powers if they have any), breathe fire, and sense and track mutants.

Now for prep time, Sauron wins. He would have access to all the Weapon-X files which would have a complete history on Stryfe and on teh location. Sauron would know that he is up against a very powerful opponent and would plan accordingly (he is actaulyl very intelligent).

What he would do is actualyl guerilla tactics on Stryfe. He wouldn't go into teh battle in pterodactyl form, he would go in looking liek a normal human. He woudl seemlessly blend in with all the thousandds of other people in the area.

Now, some might be thinking that Stryfe would just find him telepathically, but it isn't that easy. Remember, Stryfe has a lot of power, but sucks at using it in finer point ways like sifting through thousands of minds looking for a person he doesn't know anything about.

On the other hand, Sauron can actually sense mutants so he would be able to find Stryfe very easily.

He would just casually walk by Stryfe and pounce. Once Sauron got a hold of Stryfe he would instantly start draining his life force, not only making Stryfe much weaker by the second, but making Sauron stronger too. Even if Stryfe attacked right away, Sauron would be opkay since many of his attacks are psychic in nature so he must have pretty decent psychic defenses as well.

Not onyl would Sauron start draining Stryfe, but he could also easily hypnotise him. All he has to do is look into his eyes and Stryfe is his to control.

Even if Stryfe was able to break free after a bit, he will already be weakened and have to face off against pterodactyl Sauron with Stryfe's powers.

A difficult match, but definately winnable with some planning.

Winner- Sauron

Stryfe vs. Sauron - Opening remarks

Stryfe is from the future and is basically a version of Nate Grey, with the same powers, yet not hindered by the organic techno-virus, so he is said to be more powerful. These powers include telepathy, telekinesis and other enhanced attributes like strength and endurance, he is also protected by full body armor.

Sauron is a mutant that can turn into a pterodactyl with enhanced strength and other attributes, and powers such as hypnosis and energy drain and on some occasions, limited power duplication.

Intel wise I don't know exactly who would know what, Stryfe being from the future and an alternate version of Nate Grey confuses things, and there is also the whole, 'from an alternate timeline' thing, I really don't know who remembers what from the events that took place.

This is a bad matchup for Sauron as Sauron has one major weakness, he is wide open to telepathy and easily manipulated. When Sauron was on a mission to capture Emma Frost for the weapon x project, she easily subdued him and eventually took control of him making him go after another subject. This subjugation continued until he captured his new subject and returned to the weapon x base. Stryfe is many times the telepath as Emma Frost is.

Any tools that Sauron has are completely nullified also. His hypnosis will not work on Stryfe, as it's basically telepathic feat, and again, Stryfe is a telepath beyond match. Also, in the comics Saurons hypnosis only worked on non-telepaths and was never shown otherwise. His power drain also will be nullified for two reasons, one he actually has to touch skin, and Stryfe wears full body armor, and as shown in the comics this isn't an instant affect, and Stryfe has many other powers including superhuman strength and telekinesis to keep him away.

A fully populated Madripoor will actually benefit Stryfe, mainly he has many subjects to manipulate to his benefit. Sauron will probably be in his human form, making him hard to find, and even though Stryfe and his high level telepahy can find people in a crowd, he might not know who Sauron is to find him. His best bet is to turn the whole city's population on eachother causing them to attack wantonly, and most likely one of those would be Sauron. This would do two things, cause damage to Sauron, but mainly bring him out in the open, and causing him to go into his pterodactyl form giving Stryfe a chance to attack him directly. Stryfe would not think twice in doing this to innocent people, as he's an evil a-hole.

This attack would really consist of one thing, a telepathic assault subduing Sauron and ending this battle.

Winner: Stryfe
