REBUTTAL: Blob vs Balder

I know my Sun Tzu but I'm going to go for "agree to disagree" on this one. Everyone underestimates the Blob until he shows what he can do.

he was an amazing philosopher and a great teacher of business tactics today. You may ask what this has to do with this battle......ummm....nothing just saying that for those that may not know him :D

Which just really goes to show the unreliability of it, doesn't it? Balder is certainly faster, no doubt about it, but Blob is surprising in that department and will still be able to overwhelm the Blob.

Glad we agree ;) that Balder will overwhelm the Blob or he will overwhelm himself as he will not overwhelm Balder, a God.

I meant that Blob was about 1.5 times as big. The jail is a pretty enclosed space, with exception of the training room and mess hall. And again, I don't see Balder using his powers immediately. He's going to engage in hand-to-hand first.

I just wanted to state that the battle is likely to happen in the training room or the mess hall. And again we can agree to disagree as Balder will do what is needed to win.

I'm thinking we're going around in circles though, so I'm willing to leave it at this.

I guess there is not much else to add as you say. Lets get to voting.

WINNER=BALDER

Punisher (although Dagger could put up a fight)
Warlock
Red Ghost
Balder (Harl almost had me. Heck of a debate)

Punisher

Warlock - (There were a couple points I disagree with; like Warlock getting info on Ronin; but, no debate equals a win this time for me.)

Red Ghost

Balder - (I"ve gotten through three threads so far; and, this is the most difficult to decide. In the end, I decided Baldur's experience with Volstagg would help prepare him for dealing with Blob. And, I don't think Balder is a cocky Asgardian.)

Punisher

Warlock

Red Ghost - I do not agree on his power being like Shadowcat's

Balder

Warlock (Yeah just figured she had no chance in this one :()

Red Ghost (debate = win :o)

Dagger (punisher facing his crimes...shiver)

Balder (nearly went the other way)

Current Results:
Punisher leads Dagger 4-2
Warlock leads Ronin 6-0
Red Ghost leads Nuke 6-0
Balder leads Blob 4-2

Blob- really tough choice, but I think Balder would go in attacking physically and be surprised
Warlock
Red Ghost
Punisher

Final Results
Punisher defeats Dagger 5-2
Warlock defeats Ronin 7-0
Red Ghost defeats Nuke 7-0
Balder defeats Blob 4-3

Gorgon vs. Goblin Queen:

Another excellent Round 2 match-up! Onto the bios:

Gorgon:

The Gorgon has a plethora of powers, amongst them super speed, super strength and the ability to survive nearly any wound. When the Gorgon removes his glasses and looks a person in the eye, he can turn them into stone. Gorgon was also a telepath with a healing factor. The Gorgon also uses magic and supernatural arts. Abilities Gorgon is well educated and is considered a genius. He also has supernatural knowledge and powers. Weapons The Gorgon often wielded a katana

From Wiki, the following statements can also be found:

The Gorgon possesses a variety of superhuman abilities as a result of genetic mutation and mystical enhancement from the Hand and HYDRA.

The exact limits of his healing powers are unknown. However, he is capable of healing from massive trauma inflicted by Wolverine's adamantium claws, bludgeoning, and falling from great heights within a matter of moments.

Aside from his physical advantages, the Gorgon possesses some level of telepathy allowing him to read the minds of others.

The Gorgon is a extraodrinary hand to hand combatant, even before his resurrection, trained in multiple forms of martial arts. He is an expert swordsman and typically prefers to use a katana during combat. Also, he typically uses his telepathic abilities to read the minds of his opponents during combat situations, enabling him to predict and counter their moves.

The Gorgon is extraordinarily intelligent and possesses advanced knowledge in multiple scientific and artistic fields.

Goblin Queen:

Since Madelyne was cloned from Jean Grey's DNA, she was essentially another version of Jean, and possessed Jean's telekinetic and telepathic abilities. As Goblin Queen, her powers were exponentially enhanced by demonic magic to the point where her telepathy could be used to release the dark side of a person's personality, and make them evil, and her telekinesis could even warp reality in a localized area. After her resurrection by X-Man (Nate Grey), Madelyne's telepathy was reduced to a much lower level, limiting her to reading minds and communicating by broadcasting her thoughts. Her telekinetic abilities were still enormous: such that Madelyne could move, lift and manipulate fairly large objects, channel her telekinetic powers to fire powerful mental force blasts, focus her psionic energy into a protective shield, and levitate herself in order to fly at fairly high speeds. She also developed powers that Jean never possessed. Madelyne was able to teleport over long distances by psychokinetically shunting herself in and out of the astral plane (she was also shown to be able to carry additional weight, such as another person, when she teleported, but her limits were never fully tested). Madelyne also discovered that she was able to siphon the psychic energies from other psionic mutants. She could then use the stolen psychic energy to boost her own powers or channel the energy into someone else (usually Nate Grey) to temporarily increase their psionic abilities.

Also:

Telepathy
Telekinesis
Teleportation
Psychic energy absorption
Various
Black Magic and mystical powers.

There are so many matches in Round 2 that benefit the other participants in the tournament, simply because two powerhouses are fighting each other and one will be gone at the end of voting. This is one of those cases.

First, neither will have a chance to know about the other; although, I will say that Gorgon could very likely see Goblin Queen's picture and realize she looks like Jean Grey and be able to put two and two together. After all, he's very intelligent, and he's directly involved in the lives of the X-Men, especially with knowing quite a bit about Wolverine. From a simple understanding, he should be able to realize Goblin Queen's powers will be similiar to Jean Grey's.

In regards to location, both characters should be able to find out about the other.

The biggest problem Goblin Queen faces is the fact she won't know about Gorgon. It just comes down to Gorgon taking off his glasses, looking Goblin Queen in the eye, and turning her into stone. It's one thing to go into battle with knowledge that an opponent has this ability; but, to not know and have to fight someone of Gorgon's capabilities is a humongous, distinct disadvantage.

Winner = Gorgon-Enemy of the State

Jean Grey vs. X-Ray:

X-Ray got quite lucky by not having anyone debate against him last time. This time, he's facing someone with an extreme amount of experience and knowledge in facing a variety of foes, and someone of X-Ray's caliber won't give Jean Grey much of a problem. Onto the bios.

X-Ray:
Powers His physical form has been permanently converted into quasi-solid radiation. He can levitate and project various wavelengths of radiation. He is also invulnerable to physical injury.

Jean Grey:

Powers Jean Grey possessed telepathic powers enabling her to read minds, project her thoughts into the minds of others, initiate astral travel, and mentally stun opponents with pure psionic force, among other talents. She also possessed telekinesis, allowing her to levitate and manipulate objects and others, generate force fields, fly, and stimulate heat molecules to generate concussive blasts.

Basically, all the advantages in this match side with Jean Grey. She'll be able to get information on X-Ray and the location, Madripoor. There is nothing in X-Ray's bio that says he has the connections to find out this information. (And, I don't even know if in his current state if he can access a computer to try and find anything out.) In fact, I couldn't find anything showing that X-Ray and the X-Men have ever fought. Meanwhile, X-Ray and the U-Foes are have caused enough trouble to have enough information about from various sources Jean can get access to.

Jean will be able to see the various ways that X-Ray has been defeated. Plus, there is no proof that Jean cannot use her telepathic powers against him. Finally, Jean is trained to work on her own when needed; but, X-Ray is simply used to working with the rest of the U-Foes.

Winner = Jean Grey

Jean Grey VS. X-Ray

Ok, I may have to give this one to Jean. I am trying to find some evidince that X-Ray is immune to telepathy. He probably isn't because if he was, then he would win this whole tournament being immune to physical and mental attacks. If it was anyone else, I would probably put up more of a fight, but this is Jean freakin Grey. I'd rather try to debate my other three matches this week which are not looking too much better than this one for me.:csad:

Winner: Probably Jean(Unless I come across some ground breaking info)

Patriarch Vs Moonstone

Okay, so I must have gotten Patriarch in one of the character dispersions because I dont' recall him, but I'm reading his bio and he kinda reminds me of Aza Chorn from the Miracle Man comics, and I loved Aza, so this could be a rather fun character. For some reason I can't copy and past from the bio, so here's the jist of his powers below:

Advanced strength and durability (advanced human anyhow, not class 100 or anything). He's immune to diseases and aging. Now here's the part I love... he opens portals for teleportion and uses this ability offensively. He opens them and uses it to teleport other people into dangers, even into the path of their own attacks, or the attacks of allies. He also uses this ability to teleport portions of his foes away, killing them, or leaving them in shock, etc. He's also potentially somewhere around 20,000 years old.

Now I've never read anything with this character in it, but with an estimation of 20,000 years experience, I'm sure he's mastered his power. The bio is vague on what he's done with his powers, though it did mention that he supposively killed Ghost Rider, so that's pretty cool. The good thing is, I have a pretty good idea of the character through reading his character appearances and I think it works for me. Thing is, he seems to be involved in the fights and such, but isn't one to just rush into battle. He's calm about it and intelligent about his attack pattern. I figure that he's smart enough to utilize prep-time, and with Moonstone being a member of the Thunderbolts, he should be able to get quite a bit of good info on her. He doesn't have to know everything about her, just that she is a legitamate threat and someone he can't take lightly. He'll know that a frontal confrontation is not the best and that a quick and efficient victory is required. If he is how the bio displays him, he won't be against a quick surprise attack taking her out, and so I figure that that will be the best route for attack. Moonstone's powers are great and many, but Patriarch's powers are something she can't defend against, and she won't know him going in (as he's not one that's well known in the slightest) and so she won't know to prepare against it.

Pat comes accross as a patient man, so I see him waiting to attack, while Moonstone's always been one to fly around, search, etc. I can see him hidden, watching for her, and then find her flying in the air looking for her. If he wants a quick kill he can open a portal right in front of her and close it immediately, cutting her in half, sending half of her somewhere else, and the back half of her falling to the ground, killing her. End of match, easy as that.

I don't know if he can open multiple portals, but if he's more ruthless than I give him credit for he can open several and just chop her to pieces. Or he could just lob off her legs or something and watch her freak out about it, then kill her with his portals.

Now I don't know Moonstone well at all, but if her gems float around her like they do around Baron Zemo, then he'd know they're her source of power and can teleport them away however he sees fit, threat eliminated.

According to Moonstone's bio, here's what she can do:

Moonstone draws power from an alien gravity stone, and can use the stone's elemental energy to fly, become intangible (by lowering the density of her body), and focus gravity into force blasts that she fires from her hands.

The Intangability is arguable in her ability to dodge the teleportation, but she wouldn't know to look for it and if I'm not mistaken, she doesn't typically start anything intangable. She's been solid in the few issues I've seen with her, even taking hits. I don't think she'd prepare for the worse in this situation like that. I think she'd be more focused on finding him.

As for the energy blasts, Petriarch likes using his teleportation powers offensively, and I can easily see him pulling a "Blink" here and open a portal between him and the blast, and reopening the portal right behind Moonstone, hitting her with it. He likes using his opponant's attacks against them, and this is an example of that.

She has also shown the ability to project flashes of blinding light and has prodigious superhuman strength and speed through the use of the stone.

The flashes of light will do nothing if the attack comes before he can be found. And her speed can be used against her, sending her into a large wall or something, breaking her neck with the momentum. Again, using her power and attack against her.

When Moonstone absorbed a second gravity stone, she displayed the ability to control gravitational forces to move and manipulate matter, create force fields, increase gravity around a target to crush it, generate miniature black holes, even transport objects through dimensional rifts.

As for these, definately tough stuff, but nothing Pat can't take care of. Moving and manipulating matter is kinda vague for me to understand, but if she is forming something to attack with, Pat can just teleport it away either whiel it's sent after him, or while she's making it. If she tries to mess with his gravity, crushing him, he can just teleport himself away from the attack. If she tries to wear a forcefield, he can probably still cut her in half as needed (force fields aren't THAT strong). If she opens a black hole he can just teleport himself away quickly and teleport her in the mouth of it's path, killing her with her own attack, as he likes to do. She could possibly try to teleport away from it, but if she's at it's mouth, she has, like .001 second to do that.

So as you can see, even if Pat can't get a quick kill, he can still handle all her many powers enough for him to finally get his own killing blow in. Heck, in most of the scenerios he can use her own attacks to kill her. I'll tell you what... I'm glad I got this character in a draw, and he'll totally be on my list next season!

Winner - Petriarch

vs.

Air-Walker (KYTRIGGER) bio

th_Airwalker.jpg
As cool of a character as Purple Man is, he is absolutely screwed in this match.

Purple Man's only real power is mind control. The biggest problem with this is that Air-Walker is an android. It's impossible for Purple Man to control him.

Air-Walker is also vastly fastly, stronger, and a better fighter than Purple Man. He could easily knock him out in a single punch.

Basically Purple Man got a terrible draw for this round.

Winner- Air-Walker

Goblin Queen Vs. Gorgon

Almost onesided in Gorgon's favor, however, we aren't dealing with Madelyn Pryor, as the title suggests, we're dealing with the Goblin Queen. She can manipulate reality in a localized area, meaning she could turn him inside out. She can override his mind, search for him the moment she gets there. Using her dark magics she can summon demons to aid her.

LOCATION: MADRIPOOR

Madripoor is apparently based on Singapore; they are both south Asian island port nations with a single major city. Its official name is the Principality of Madripoor, and its capital and single large city is Madripoor, which is divided between wealthy Hightown and impoverished, crime-ridden Lowtown. This serves to represent the extreme social inequality in Madripoor, described as "A place for the very rich and the very poor".
Madripoor was once a haven for pirates, and that tradition is somewhat continued today with its lawless quality; the Principality does not allow other nations to extradite criminals. However, it is one of the business capitals of the Pacific Rim, with its own Trade Center.
Other locations of note in the Central Business District are the Bank of Hong Kong and the Bank of Malaysia, luxurious Sovereign Hotel, and the Prince's Palace, said to rival Versailles.

I just noticed a debate went up a couple days ago for Gorgon vs. Goblin Queen. One point that is missing in this debate is the fact that Gorgon also has telepathy; so, as often happens in Marvel comics, Goblin Queen's telepathy might be greatly hindered by Gorgon's ability to do the same thing, and visa versa. In the end, Goblin Queen will have to look Gorgon in the eyes at some point, and she will literally be a Stone-Cold Biatch!

Winner = Gorgon

*Gorgon - Enemy of the State

*Jean Grey

*Air-Walker - (Real bad luck of the draw in opponent for Purple Man.)

*Patriarch - (Although, if I was Harlekin, I might choose Moonstone, as there just isn't that much information about Patriarch.)
