Having seen Malificent, I'm gonna say it might give the X-Men a run for their money now.

Can't really say anything, sorry.:oldrazz: But I'll say this, there's some cool **** that happens in the film. It's visually stunning. That's all I'll say for now.:cwink:

Yea, I'm hearing the same thing about Maleficent as well. Had a friend that's gotten to see it too and they mentioned it was absolutely stunning as well and of course Angie kills it in the role.

I mean the film is tracking 60 million but I think it's gonna make more. Saw it in 3D, not really a big fan of 3D but it was absolutely stunning visually. Better visuals than Raimi's Oz for sure. We'll see how well it does opening weekend.:woot:

............... everything below the 500 millions of dollars mark would be an huge disappointment to me.

My wife really wants to see it, what you are telling me makes me happy that at least I won't feel like I'm just putting up with it. I did think it would be a threat to DoFP though.

Seeing Angelina as Maleficent only solidifies my need for her to play Selene haha

I'd agree that it would be a disappointment. People saying the that about $700M are frankly setting themselves up for the same since that's a long, long road for an X-Men film.

if Captain America can do that with its first sequel, XMen as a hot ensemble can reach that and even more.
Big increases happen

Captain America didn't have 6 prior tries that had well established the range that his films would stay in. X-Men does.

X1 although good had a severe budget cut during production as Fox lost their nerve on making a comic film leading to understated visual effects and action scenes. X2 is the closest we've had to a core X-film without problems and enjoying a decent budget and that was 11 years ago before the massive growth in the international market and still near the beginning of the comic book film explosion. Since then we've had a film with mixed reception (X3), a prequel featuring hardly any of the main characters (even though I love the film) and 2 solo films. DOFP will be the real test of what the X-franchise's range will be being released in modern times with a healthy budget and plenty of main X-Men. If that doesn't do well then I'd agree that the franchise is smaller than other comic properties.

If Maleficent is indeed that great, that means DOFP will be sandwiched between two potentially well-reviewed blockbusters. That's not a good place to be in a hectic summer schedule where everything is front-loaded.

The first question is "Will people care as much about The X-Men as they did in 2006?" If they do, this will be a $300 M domestic film (X-3 adjusted + 3-D uptick.)

The second question is "Can this film break out in foreign territories?" The X-Men have never managed to have a really strong foreign performance. Adjusted for inflation, the strongest foreign X-performance is still under $300 M. This needs to be the film that expands the X-Men from domestic phenomenon to global phenomenon, the way The Avengers did for Iron Man and co.

I think $750 M would be a great gross for this film. I'm not saying it's necessarily a realistic one, given the stiff competition, but this is an X-Men film. Not a young X-Men film, or a Wolverine solo, but a film that finally reunites the principal actors of the original trilogy. It has some major stars, and is a direct sequel to the most respected X-Men film of the last 10 years.

I'm terrible at figuring this one out. So much depends on Godzilla and Maleficent. Boxofficemojo predicted DoFP to do over $700 M, while predicting Malificent at nearly $500 M, and Godzilla at over $600 M. I don't think there's enough market for all 3 films to perform that well.

If Malificent does better than expected, and Godzilla's legs are strong, Days of Future Past will tap out at roughly $550 M. If Godzilla's legs are weak, and Malificent flops, I think a gross over $700 M isn't out of the question.

It's important to remember that Winter Soldier hit $700 M without any competition. Days of Future Past won't have the luxury, so even if it's a well reviewed installment of a bigger property, it's not guaranteed to out-gross Cap 2.

The movie was expected to be big in Turkey but dont know if you heard there has been a big coal mine explosion so that could hurt the general box office

Or people would want some escapism when ****** things happen.

I think 750 will be baseline if the reviews hold up. 300 domestic and 450 WW should be no problem. I am predicting 330/800 and change.

I'm going to go for 650 million (230 USA, 420 million overseas) worldwide box office. Anything above that would be great of course!:woot:

The fact that they chose not to do an IMAX release is going to play a factor in the box office revenue. It's not just a shame because of the financial reasons but also because the epic scope of the film's action, locations and cast warrants a release in the best format possible IMO.

Interesting thing to consider now is that DOFP is not only been released in 2D and 3D bust also a format called 4DX in South Korea, Czech Republic, Phillipines, Venezuala, Mexico and more countries.

What is 4DX™?

4DX™ is the most immersive cinema experience playing Hollywood blockbuster films with 4D effects. It is another step in enhancing the stimulation of the human senses further to draw you into the movie.

4DX™ theaters are equipped with high-technology motion seats that move in perfect sync with on-screen action. The realistic sophisticated motion is designed by fully trained CJ 4DPLEX’ motion programmers which sets 4DX™ apart from the unrefined and turbulent motions you may experience elsewhere.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. You will be able to experience special effects such as wind, fog, lightning, and scents that enhance what you see on the screen. 4DX™ enables you to connect with the movie, sending you on a journey with the characters, and ultimately freeing yourself from the flat screen. Movie going is no longer just a simple viewing, but an all-encompassing experience. Don’t just watch the movie; be in it. Make it your experience.
