If that $120M 4-day holds, that puts it right around $100M for the weekend.

doing close to X3 numbers isnt a surprise to me. In fact, I was expecting a bit more, with the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge cast, all more popular than they were years ago, the long awaited sentinels, Bryan Singer, the scope, the effects and all of that. oh, and the 3d inflation.

Doing less is what would actually surprise me in a sense, taking into account all those factors. And the superhero genre being more popular than ever

I will go ahead and say it: How to Train Your Dragon 2 will make more than Transformers 4.

HtTYD "only" made around 500 million. It will get a large boost, but I have a hard time seeing it beat out Transformers.

HTTYD2 could pull of a Despicable Me 2 or a Kung Fu Panda 2.

The content might keep it from doing that. They aren't kidding when they say it is very "The Empire Strikes Back". While I think that is awesome, that could turn off some kids and parents alike.

Shame it's not more given X3's numbers 8 years ago.

On the flip side, the expanded overseas market means we will easily be seeing the highest grossing X-Men film overall. :)

@Iceman yeah, I dont get it. all the actors together and they (cast and Fox) werent able to get X3 audience back?
I dont get it

It is a different world now. The number is very good for this day and age. That is what counts. Also, expect better legs, even with the competition. It is a much better film.

X3 and Origins hurt it, the growth of the MCU, Dark Knight trilogy, some people now wont go back to Fox just because its Fox, more competition than before. Its not overly surprising.

X-Men and Spidey are no longer "special snowflakes". They are now apart of a bigger Comic book generation of films. Still, these numbers are very good, and could turn out great.

the thing is the people having a problem with Fox are mainly comic fanboys, the net world and basically this.
General audience doesnt know well the studios behind each franchise. I can swear my whole family doesnt know what comics movies are made by Fox, Marvel or Warner.

That isn't true at all. The vast majority know the difference between Marvel studios and other Marvel films. Mainly because they all show up in each others films. I think people caught on when Spidey and Wolverine weren't in the Avengers.

vast majority? really? no offense to anyone, but most general viewers are 'ignorant' in terms of the movie industry (well, many people are ignorant about many things, but thats another story, lol) They arent movie experts or cinema lovers to know all the stuff, even the studio name behind most franchises. Id even bet most of my class mates doesnt even know what studio is behind XMen. Im sure none of the girls know it, and some of my male mates dont know it either, lol

Yes, the box office proves this.

You don't need to be a cinema lover or movie expert to know the difference. I was 5 and I knew that batman didn't hang out with Hulk. You don't have to know the actual studios to know there is a difference.

You think if people thought they were all from the same place, you don't think they'd be wondering where Iron Man, Thor and the Hulk were to smash the Sentinels? Why Spider-Man is all by himself? Why there are no X-Men or Spider-Man in the Avengers?

SHIELD interconnects the MCU and it is showing to general audiences.

Are you talking about the comics? Because that isn't my point. All the "big heroes" meet up for the first time on the big screen, and Spidey and Wolverine aren't there? It is becomes obvious.

A 120 m 4-day would mean 250+ m domestic would be very likely.

Which is great considering how little First Class made.

Yep.

Following up X3 with XMO:W was probably enough to turn a fair chunk of even the GA off of the franchise. I'm sure many of them would have liked First Class if they'd still been on board. DOFP should contribute to some positive momentum for the future though.

I'm expecting big international numbers for this. If The Wolverine can make $282 million overseas I'd be surprised if DoFP made less than $350 million.

Definitely expecting at least that if not a lot more. ;)

It might hit $120 million over the Memorial Day weekend
Bryan Singer's critically acclaimed X-Men: Days of Future Past is doing impressive business at the Friday box office, putting it on course for a $100 million-plus debut.

The 20th Century Fox tentpole will easily own the long Memorial Day weekend, with more bullish box office observers believing it has a shot at hitting $120 million.

Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, withdrew from promoting Days of Future Past after a sex abuse lawsuit was filed against him.

The $200 million-plus movie features actors from the original X-Men trilogy of films and X-Men: First Class, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

Singer produced the well-reviewed Days of Future Past alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, screenwriter Simon Kinberg and Hutch Parker.

I am thinking in the ball park of 90 million for three days.

195 Million Domestic
235 International

I would up your domestic prediction before you make everyone on here sad. :csad:
