I wish they'd do IMAX.

I noticed my theater has far fewer 3D showings, which is actually a good thing. It won't turn away as many people who don't want to sit through the 3D.

If there is one thing that would make this even better it would have been IMAX. I hope we get it for apocalypse.

I was gonna ask, is there a particular reason the X-films arent IMAX?

Godzilla had a two week engagement with IMAX. It seems 20th Century Fox films do not have an agreement with IMAX and can only put their movies in the format when Warner Bros., Disney, or DreamWorks do not have a film out around the same time.

The last Fox film to be released in IMAX was the horrible A Good Day to Die Hard.

Oh great that means apoc wont be with the other films that year

Does this mean Godzilla's IMAX showings are only until this week?

Yep. Maleficent will be taking over. Unless that bombs horribly, which is doubtful.

A good number considering there's no IMax and it started at 10pm not 7pm or 8pm.

Godzilla will be in IMAX until Maleficent next weekend.

Here is the lineup for the rest of the year:
May 16, 2014 Godzilla
May 30, 2014 Maleficent
June 6, 2014 Edge of Tomorrow
June 13, 2014 How to Train Your Dragon 2
June 27, 2014 Transformers: Age of Extinction
July 18, 2014 Jupiter Ascending
August 1, 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy
November 7, 2014 Interstellar
November 21, 2014 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
December 17, 2014 The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Interesting. Have never watched IMAX before so I always just assumed it was another format like 3D that showed till the end of the movie's run. Didn't realize it was a book slot situation.

Most theaters(in the States) only have one IMAX screen if they have it at all. So unless a deal is in place, they will only have it for a limited time until the next movie comes along. Almost any screen can be formatted for 3D as far as I'm aware.

just read Dofp made 11m opening day in China, 1m more than Cap2, and that movie made 113m there!
this could be pretty huge in China

That's awesome, hopefully gets to $100+ million.

By way of contrast, “X-Men: The Last Stand,” the highest-grossing film in franchise history, racked up $5.9 million in midnight screenings in 2006, en route to a $122 million Memorial Day opening. “X-Men: First Class,” the most recent film in the series, grossed an estimated $3.4 million in midnight runs at the domestic box office in 2011, while spinoff “The Wolverine” enjoyed a $4 million late night bow last summer.

Prediction? :D

I don't normally do that but with looking at the tracking and midnight that it made I'd say it opens to at least $125 Million. Word of Mouth is gonna be huge for this and while Godzilla will have Legs and Spiderman is a continue to spin its web with movie goers the X-Men will resonate with these folks. Jennifer Lawrence alone is gonna bring some of that Hunger Games crowd and Hugh Jackman is a HUGE draw while the reviews have been amazingly positive across the board unlike Zilla and Spidey. $125 Million 4 Day total.

Wow! 8.1MM is an awesome take considering it doesn't have IMAX and started later then the other three biggies this year.

The weekend is looking good folks!

Yeah, I'm trying to consider all those factors and not be disappointed. We're looking good. Hope we stay on course.

Oh that's great. Hopefully it can do even more than Cap. Certainly means it's going to blow previous overseas totals away. Last Stand only did $225m, First Class $207m & The Wolverine $282m.

I really hope this movie destroy the box office.

I want movies of the OC team and the FC team in future

I seriously want this film to blow the box office away just to even secure films for all casts but I am being sensible so doubt its going to be mega or break records

Big overseas improvement should be possible due to growth in the market itself and also a domestic high for the series, not sure by how much.

The experts are predicting Transformers 4 will be the summer's biggest film.

That latest trailer on the big screen was ****ing awesome. It will be an event to see that movie on the Big screen, that crowd went ape **** after that trailer.

For Example. It's doing well. Started 3 hours later than Godzilla and 2 hours later than ASM2 and CAP2.
