DC Relaunching Everything? - Part 2

That shameful costume is really hurting my excitement for Action Comics. Really, Morrison writing a new history for Superman is exactly the kind of thing I want--it's just depressing to htink I'll have to look at that awful suit, instead of, you know, what Superman is actually supposed to look like.

The early issues of Action will have Superman in the "Hobo With A Cape" costume. I know, it still sucks.

In all honesty, I'm not sure if that's really supposed to be any kind of makeshift costume; I wonder if the symbol and cape (towel?) are just there because a guy in civvies wouldn't make for a great Action Comics #1 cover.

But then why not just draw regular Superman instead off civvie Superman? Eh, I don't know.

Because regular Superman sucks to them? No wonder no one cares about their characters; they themselves don't care about them.

Superman looks ******ed.

Well that's not really true. These writers aren't exactly rookies in the Supes world. Morrison especially. I'd say fans are lucky he's onboard, considering what he's done.

I could very well see the "hobo suit" used in Action Comics to be a temporary, make-shift suit that Clark wears when he's just starting out.

If it is used, the question is, where'd he get a Superman T-shirt, if he's just starting out? Wouldn't it be incredibly easy to find out who he is if he had to special order a t-shirt with an iron on sticker of his own design? :funny:

well.....maybe it's still something his mom made for him......lol

I don't know.......just speculating.

how the heck did dirt poor Peter Parker sew such an intricate spider symbol onto his costume??? :awesome:

Night 3 Part 3: Geoff Johns and Jim Lee for DC Comics

  • They talked about the future of DC Comics and how everything is being rebooted
  • Grant Morrison talks about how he’s going to do the new Action Comics storyline
  • If you’re a comic book fan, you’ll love hearing this audio file

I like how Jim Lee responded to me on twitter. I asked him why everybody gotten a 90's design. He told me explain what 80's,90's, 00's style is. I told him look at Teen Titans 1. That describe the 90's in a nut shell. All we needed was a really big gun.

I'm utterly indifferent to the whole thing and here's why:

I've been cutting back so much on DC titles, this reboot craziness seems like a perfect time for me to drop everything. I'm down to Birds of Prey, Green Lantern and Secret Six, and soon they'll all reboot. I might drop Marvel as well after 'Fear Itself' wraps up. It could be a nice chance for me to focus on older stories for a while.

I do. Oddly enough, the lack of red there draws attention to his crotch.

Not a regular DC reader - just Green Arrow. But I keep mostly up to speed with the major goings on in the DCU and know most of the players and where they're at. So please forgive me if this is a really stupid question and has been covered countless times in these threads...

But is this DCNu not simply Onslaught Pocket Marvel U? And what makes it distinct from the time altering weirdness that befell Wonderwoman a few months back (only on a much grander scale)?

Big thing happens involving time travel that changes the course of history across everything, and we get these 52 new titles right? Then in a years time the creators find they tried to do too much too soon with too many firmly established characters, and we have an event to undo it all - just like the post Onslaught titles.

I just haven't seen any articles talking about this, but it seems wayyyy too similar, regardless of any insistence by Lee, Dido, Morrison or anyone else that this is a staying change

Clark's costume on Action Comics #1's cover looks better by comparison. That one has about 20 more bound seams than necessary. Good idea, but overly busy.

I'm sure lots of people expected the Post-Crisis timeline to go away in a year's time, too. Incidentally, the post-Onslaught universe was never intended to be permanent; it was planned and executed as a one-year story line, so the situation isn't comparable.

And DC arent altering their continuitt that much. most of the changes are just to costumes

The early issues of Action will have Superman in the "Hobo With A Cape" costume. I know, it still sucks.

I think I know what he is going for with that, it's a punk rock thing.

See, punk performers wanted to break down the invisible barrier between audience and performer, where before the audience would look upon the artist as some kind of demi-god, like Hendrix, Morrison, etc, the punks wanted to make it look as if anyone could get up on stage, and in turn, they could step off stage and blend into the audience.

So, Superman could be doing something like that in his early days, wanting to appear as one of the people, dressing modestly, instead of showing up on day one in a bright shining suit that looks like it was stitched up on another planet. He wants to show people that although he has powers, underneath that, he is just like them.

and then when he has ingrained himself in the culture, and earned the trust of the people, he whips out the skintight future fashion, and people appreciate the fact he has now become a symbol, and needs the appropriate uniform to go with that notion.

Because, I guess you could think, him showing up day one in that kind of uniform would be assuming he was already a symbol, whereas his actions have to earn that staus, same as being a recognised as a protector of the people, he has to earn his uniform, so he can wear that proudly in public, without seeming pretentious.
