Red trunks are back! :woot:

Thank the good lord. Hopefully it's a permanent thing, not just a one-off for issue 1000.

Now, we need Batman to get his trunks back (plus the classic yellow oval bat logo).

I dont know, its hard to take the trunks look serious nowadays.
It looks too goofy by now.
You can easier sell those outfits as armor etc when they dont wear trunks above it.

Lets keep this in the old days, as a one time tribute okay...but i prefer the look we have now.

^I completely disagree. These costumes look wrong without the trunks. They look out of balance, like something's missing. And Superman doesn't need armour.

I don't think there's anything out of balance or abnormal about the current Supes suit, and I also really like this belt variation. The red belt lining helps to break up the blue suit color in the same way that the red trunks do.

Please tell me why Superman needs armor to begin with. He's ****ing Superman.

To me, the trunks on both Superman and Batman are something that could've gone the way of Spider-Man's armpit webbing or any number of other weird quirks characters have been given early on, only to be phased out over time with little to no pushback. But for whatever reason, the trunks stuck around and now are treated as integral.

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree, I suppose.

Oh. I got used to the Rebirth look, The Shape posted.

I mean, its no big deal either way.

But I think I definitely prefer the no-red undies look.

Tell me why he would need Trunks?
And its not like he doesnt face enemies who can deal some damage even to a guy like Superman.
Doing what he does and not having some kind of protection armor would seem rather arrogant and short sighted to me.

I just dont see a reason for the Trunks look any longer.

At this point, I view the trunks as a meta commentary. They look dorky and nobody would ever do that, so they've become the symbol of the realism vs. escapism debate.

They represent the unashamed fantasy of comic books. Something that for whatever reason, has become the ugly stepchild of superheroes. Everything is about realism and grittiness.

Give me cheesiness. Give me bright colors. And give me the damn trunks.

Finally, the classic supersuit is back where it belongs. I liked the Rebirth suit (and the DCEU one) and wouldve been content with it going forward, but there's just nothing better than the real deal.

I am glad the trunks are back only because every attempt by DC Comics to replace them looked like garbage.

Its one thing to remove the trunks for a live action Superman, in a live action movie. But comic books and comic book art are a completely different animal.

Its a one off. When you're doing an issue that celebrates all the eras of a character in that issue's stories, no all of them will include the modern looks, not all of them will have the classic looks.

I've been a force for change. The trunks made little sense as time movie on, starting in the '90s-current. Now I'd agree that taking the classic look and ditching the trunks and leaving the rest alone would be a better idea, as much having a one piece armor or not suit that's all blue including the boots would be interesting too. But the ones that are from the New 52, Rebirth and Reborn, DCEU, games, etc. have been great. So they have been doing a great job.

The more you fight for the trunks to come back just to have them, the less credibility you have to be taken seriously. Not just from me, and others who disagree with you; but the DC/WB as well who all look at you as lunatics. Which for us who want to be heard, it ruins our chances speaking good things that need to be addressed because its buried by crap like the "bring back the trunks" nonsense.

In other words, stop it.

The book being a celebration of all the eras of Superman and the trunks potentially coming back don't have to be mutually exclusive.

This proves the suit can work without the trunks. It's the best version of the suit to ever be in the comics. Too bad DC insists on this backwards nostalgia for Superman instead of being more forward-thinking like they are with Wonder Woman. The incredible Greek-inspired costume she's been wearing the past years is way better than her original clown suit.

The belt is literally pointing at his crotch, and drawing more attention to it then the underwear ever has. It doesn't work as well as giving Wonder Woman a Greek battle skirt.

Sounds like you're saying the trunkless side has a right to say their piece, while the pro trunks side are lunatics who should shut up. But really, if it's silly to make it a big deal about superman not having trunks, then it's silly to make a big deal about him having trunks. You can't have it one way and not the other, because that's a double standard.

Not to single you out, but I’ve never understood the “arrow right to his crotch!” criticism. Does it really matter? Like, who honestly gives a damn?

My only issue with that belt is that it’s a belt. It serves zero purpose. It’s not holding his pants up and there’s nothing in or on it that serves any sort of function. It’d make more sense for it to be a design feature of the suit, not a separate accessory.

I felt that the red belt was a solid substitute, but nothing beats the red trunks.

I just think there's no point in worrying about superhero costumes being taken seriously and looking like something that people would wear in real life, which is what the trunks are dated argument amounts to. Most superhero suits that aren't just plain street clothes don't look realistic anyway, even if they have modern design aesthetics.
