DC Universe Online kicks off the Battle for Earth today

It's time for the main event in DC Universe Online. You're not just taking part in the Battle for Metropolis or the Battle for Gotham City or the Battle for the Local Burger Joint. No, this is the Battle for Earth, the newest DLC pack for the game, available now for all players. It's time for the war against Brainiac to reach its conclusion, and considering the setting, you can be sure the war won't be won with polite speeches and reasonable discussion.

Of course, this means a lot of new elements, such as a new powerset and a new raid. If you're not one of the Legendary players and have to choose whether or not to buy the pack, there's a new trailer available just after the cut meant to show off all the niftiness therein. And besides, can you really opt out of taking part in the battle for Earth? Your character probably lives there.

It's super-patch day for the folks over at DC Universe Online, as SOE is bringing Game Update 12 to the live servers. The patch's biggest addition to the game is an overhaul of the bank UI. Now the bank will be easier to use, clearer to understand, and have a separate area for shared inventory.

Game Update 12 is definitely about convenience. SOE's adding the option to purchase additional character slots for those whose altoholic natures have pushed the limits of the character select screen as far as it'll go. The update is also adding teleporters to give players an additional 15 seconds of leeway when trying to get into a Boss Alert after the door closes.

As expected with any big update, this patch has plenty of bug and balance fixes as well. SOE is anticipating a four-hour downtime to deploy GU12 to the servers.

'The Last Laugh' DLC coming to DC Universe Online in June, adds new PvP content

The Last Laugh, a new DLC pack that expands player-versus-player options in DC Universe Online, is set to arrive on PC and PlayStation 3 this June. In addition to introducing three different four-on-four battle scenarios (all conjured up by the actions of Batman's nemesis, The Joker), The Last Laugh adds a two-phase, 16-vs-16 scenario in which both sides try to take over the other's Headquarters. And there's a new weapon called The Shield, which can either be used to bash enemies, or hurled for a ranged attack, Captain America-style! (Wait ...)

Finally, there are two new Legends PvP characters to play as: Kilowog the Green Lantern, and Amon Sur from the Sinestro Corps. The pack is a free download for Legendary subscribers, and available for purchase by Free and Premium players. You can see what it all looks like in the gallery below.DC Universe Online: Last Laugh DLC

Sony Online Entertainment is bringing out the big guns for its next DC Universe Online content patch. As we reported last week, the Joker is set to return for The Last Laugh, and fortunately for everyone, his voiceover duties will be handled by none other than Mark Hamill.

Hamill is joined by DC stalwart Arleen Sorkin (that's Harley Quinn to you, mistah), and Adam Baldwin returns to the role of Superman for the first time since DCUO's launch. The Last Laugh also features a new shield weapon, four new safe house battles, and 8v8 throw-downs in both the Watchtower and the Hall of Doom.

The Last Laugh will be freely available to legendary DCUO members, while free and premium players can purchase it via the in-game marketplace, the official website, or the PlayStation Network.

DC Universe Online shows off the new Shield weapon

Shields generally aren't thought of as a weapon; they're usually seen as the exact opposite of a weapon. But in the superheroic milieu, all that changes. A shield is something to be used offensively, and in DC Universe Online's next major update, players will get to start wielding the shield for their own superheroic (or villainous) capers. A recent interview with creative director Jens Andersen discusses the intended role of the shield in combat.

Andersen explains that while the new weapon comes along in a very PvP-centered update, it's not meant to be used specifically for PvP -- the team just wants to have something new for players to enjoy no matter what. In play, shields are similar to a staff weapon, but unlike most other weapons the shield can continue to build a combo after a heavy strike by moving back to light strikes. That should make the shield a very aggressive option -- perhaps odd for something that's not generally thought of as a weapon.

Well damn, I already have my Capt America character at lvl 30 and I'm not starting over for the shield lol

DC Universe Online expanding Legends PvP with Last Laugh DLC

DC Universe Online's fourth DLC pack is on the way. As you're probably aware, it's called Last Laugh, but what you may not know is that it's focused on PvP. New iconic characters are making their way to the game's Legends mode, including DC stalwarts like Power Girl and Amon Sur.

Up to this point, much of Legends PvP has focused on what creative director Jens Andersen terms the Bat family. Characters like Batman, Bane, Two-Face, Robin, and the Joker are all mainstays. Now, though, players can step into the tights of both Kryptonian and Lantern heroes, and they can do so on the new Fortress of Solitude Legends map. That's not all, of course, but you'll need to head to Games Radar for more details plus a nifty video.

You can change your weapon at any time, just buy a respec after the update.

You don't even have to do that. As long as you put skill points in the shield tree, and have the weapon, you can use it.

I'm having some major issues with my DCUO character.

I got to level 30, inducted into the JLA, and now I'm ready to do the On-Duty missions. However, when I go into the On-Duty tab, I can't select anything. It doesn't matter if it's Duos, Alerts, Legends or whatnot, being able to press the "Add Scenario" and "Queue" buttons are not options for some reason.

I noticed this started happening when I equipped the item that supposedly unlocked Robin as a playable character in the Legends missions, but I'm not sure if it's because of that or something else.

Can anyone help me? Has this happened to anyone else?

Does anyone know if you can unlock the iconic suits by playing for free? I cannot find a answer for this anywhere.

As a comic fan (I like DC and Marvel) is this worth d/ling now that I have a ps3?

Totally, I have spent plenty of time with it (bought it when it came out and paid for 3 months) and it's not a bad game at all, and it's free so you have nothing to lose.

Yea like the others have said, it's free and it's fun, you've got nothing to lose. Make sure u use a wired connection when downloading it tho or ur PS3 will take at minimum a decade to download everything

Yea I'll need to wait til the middle of July to download it as my internet max right now is 100 kb/s speed download. (In the middle of nowhere)

First thing I'll grab soon though.

Just a reminder. Today is the last day of the sale on the marketplace (PC side). Everything is 50% off, $15 for 3 DLCs is a good deal. Also I don't think the Legendary subs is not included in the sale.

You have to double click every instance you want to que for. The little box to the left will turn blue. Then hit the que button and they will turn green. Then click on the ready button at the right. You also have to choose the legends character or the role you want to play, depending on the instance.

Well, I got back into the game. Haven't played in a while, but because of that Green Lantern TV Show, I got back into the Ring slinging mood. Just saved Superman's ass and I'm an official JLA member now. Took me long enough.

Say, can someone tell me how buying armors and the costs of Marks work? For example, there's an Armor piece that says "Costs 60 Marks of Triumph". Do I lose those 60 Marks when I buy that piece of armor, or do they stay and I simply get access to all pieces that need that requirement?

:Edit:

Never mind. Found it out. God damn... it'll be a chore earning 400+ Marks.

Yup. Which is why the endgame of DCUO got extremely tedious for me and I lost interest after getting like 3 pieces of Tier 1 armor. With the DLC there are more duos and what not so you can earn more per day then you could before, but it's still a chore.

They introduce mark caps in update 13 or 14. Can't earn anymore after 250, you would have to spend marks to earn more. Also I would suggest banking marks. I have a feeling tier 1 and 2 gear will have a mark reduction prices soon.
