That's so weird cuz I just heard about Steel and Lex Luthor being playable characters too. Crazy.

So I tried to log in for my DC Universe Online fix this morning, only to be greeted with a hanging connect screen and an urge to Hulksmash my keyboard. After my DC fan card was revoked, I remembered that it's patch day, and SOE has said to expect a five-hour down period to pave the way for Game Update 21.

When the game comes back, there should be a new PvP map, though the Inner Sanctum is only playable if you've purchased the Hand of Fate DLC (or if you're a subscriber/Legendary member). The devs are also adding a handy auto-loot feature and a number of tweaks to missions, alerts, challenges, and more. Full details are available via the patch notes.

Ok before I foreget this. The inside look at Home Turf!
Home Turf is DCUO’s sixth DLC Pack, and it brings major new features to the game in the form of Player Bases. This week, the DCUO SourceCast (a fan livestream) is hosting Executive Producer Larry “CaptainLiberty” Liberty and Community Manager Ted “Mepps” Stone to talk about the winter seasonal event (and when it might begin), future Game Updates, Player Bases in Home Turf, and whatever else might be on their minds! If you’ve been craving Home Turf news, this is where it all begins. Tune in!

The live stream basically over. well the head person form dev team left it the pr managers now.

so here's what we'll be getting.


Lairs and hideouts. the former larger and will possibly hold 500 players and you can customize it how ever you want theme wise hideouts will be what will be what people in the real world use as safe house but basic the same as the lairs. both will some called a main frame and generator.


as players both heroes and villain will be receiving side kicks and Hench men. the villains will have Hench men and the heroes will have side kick's or if you more then that you have back in the plural sense.


you be able to call strike from the sky like orbit and pay load drops according to them.

DCUO Sourcecast DLC6 Summary:

Some notes:


  • Fire and Ice update is targetted for Update 23 sometime around February.
  • The Winter Event is set to start Dec 11th.
  • Update 22 will have the DLC5 instances for bosses.
  • There was a cryptic statement about more information on powers being released in the next month, but it wasn't clear (at least to me) whether that would be the Sorcery/Nature Updates, new power sets or some other change to powers in general.
  • Update 23 should see a change to ways to generate in game cash both from content as well as vault and other sources. Basically this is a response the EU problem.
DLC6 Lair Information:

  • The mainframe functionality will have an initial MoT cost and a month "utility bill" of both in game cash and marks.
  • Entrances to lairs will reflect the type of lair. Multiple characters could have the same entrance point.
  • Lairs will cost different amounts depending on location and type.
  • Lair Duels, will be best of 5 matches with cut scenes showing destruction etc. Matches for the duels will be queued and random. You can also invite other players into your lair.
  • You can give mainframe permissions to other players to move items and/or interact with your lair. No specific limit of the number of players that you can invite to your lair, likely to be in the 100s.
  • Hideouts are separate from lairs. All players will get a hideout around this time. Hideouts are the low rent version of lairs with limited capabilities. Lairs are much bigger with multiple floors
  • At launch there will be one hideout (available for everyone), and two lairs, Deco and Gothic, available for Legendary and anyone who purchases Home Turf. There are four additional Lairs planned for the Marketplace, and likely more in the future.
  • Default colour scheme will be your current style, default emblem will be your current emblem. Can be changed after the fact. Some lair elements cannot be changed. Mostly it's accent colours.
DLC 6 cont.

  • Most components like furniture etc. are destructible props. There will be number of amenities like bank, mail station that will have functionality. They kinda side-stepped whether that would include sparring bots.
  • A process will involve placing a number of items in your lair in sockets to later unlock free placement. The items involved in the duels will be the ones placed in the socketed locations. This will keep players from placing items strategically to make combat difficult.
  • White sockets on the gear are related to the mainframes and a new type of mod. They wouldn't go into detail though. The phrase was "interesting ability" mods. It wasn't mentioned if the codex gear etc., will be changed to accommodate them.
  • Other amenities from the mainframe will include: orbital strikes, supply drops, henchmen/sidekicks and mod research (the white sockets).
  • Henchmen/Sidekicks will reflect the theme of your lair. An example was eastern theme would have ninja. Some customization will exist beyond that.
  • Items for the lair will drop in loot across the board. Level 12 and up and for all content, not just DLC 6. Most items can be resold in the broker.
  • Number of lairs per player are TBA. Might be the result of player feedback on test. Sounds likely to be 3-4.
  • DLC6 PVE content will be Tier 4 solo content. Ace, Arkham, Steelworks and Styker are the locations. Challenge level is quite high. More details to come on that. Rewards are likely to be Marks of War but this is not 100%.
  • Should be on the test server before Christmas. Mepps said 2012 for sure.
Other Information

  • Saved load-outs are targeted for DLC 8.
  • PVP balance issues. Specifically Jordan and Steel
  • Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow as Legends were broached but there was no commitment to an answer.
  • Legends only in the marketplace was briefly discussed and it was pretty much confirmed that in 2013 there will be a mix of marketplace and in game legends.

Looks like player numbers are declining. I got a 30 days free Legendary Membership activation today in my mail.
 
that's weird to hear seeing this was said today with DCUO being one of their most profitable of MMOs sony has. it'll pick up again soon with what they sent out. I already picked up a e-mail for the free legendary membership while I had one from marvel heroes on when the live stream is for that MMO's beta code give away which will be tomorrow.

John Smedley's MMO revival tour continues, with the latest stop being an interview at Polygon. The SOE CEO lends some context to impressive numbers recently released by the firm touting the success of its new business model intiative, and he also evangelized about the future of the company and EverQuest Next.

Since switching to F2P across its extensive MMO portfolio, SOE has seen DC Universe's daily revenue increase by 700%, EverQuest II's registration numbers triple, and EverQuest's registration numbers tick up by 350%. Oh, and PlanetSide 2? It's seen 1.6 million players registered thus far, 250,000 of whom log in daily. "Free-to-play is just too good of an idea," Smedley says. "The idea is just so simple. It democratizes and capitalizes, makes true capitalism out of the MMO gaming space."

He goes on to say that the MMO industry is stuck in a rut that SOE helped create via design choices made in the original EQ. "We need to change the way we do this," Smedley says. "We're building a sandbox and giving players the tools to help shape the world that they're in. That's the direction we're going in with EverQuest Next; trying to make a world that players create while being in a living, breathing world around them. It's not just a prop for them to walk around in, which is really what all of today's MMOs are. Their worlds are nothing more than a movie set."

F2P is the way to go with MMOs. That lowers the barrier of entry significantly and makes the game more accessible. Unfortunately I never got into this game and its bc of the damn installs. Way too big and take way too long. It wouldnt be so bad if you could do it in the background from the XMB but they took the MGO approach and you have to be within the game to do it which was a big mistake. Who wants to block off hours doing nothing but updating? They should have allowed us to utilize our PS3s while it does that
 
Or you just leave your PS3 on for the night or when you go out shopping or whatever.

you know what just don't play this til you have the ps4 then it's like what I told raven in the FF versus thread the part of the reason their doing the move to next gen is cause of games like DCUO and most fan say they can't handle the space this this kind of game demands it's an MMo they always demand more space.

And unfortunately that means any other game you have, that you've left in your hard drive ,but aren't playing that often will have to be pushed out. The move to next gen solves that problem cause there will be that space cause you'll have a larger hard drive to deal with that problem. so that's my suggestion. don't touch this or marvel heroes online (yeah it's for pc, but they said they have future plans for consoles, pc is the main priority right now. ) til you've bought a ps4 or the other newer systems.

Sadly, hard drive space is what led to me uninstalling DCUO as well. I liked to occasionally pop in, but those times grew further and further apart. I didn't want to re-subscribe, and playing without a subscription started to feel too constricting. Though without F2P, I probably wouldn't have popped it in again after my subscription first ran out like 5 months after launch.

Agreed that hard drive space should be a big help to MMO's nextgen. When the PS3 launched, hard drives were more expensive. Now, you can buy a 1 TB hard drive for under $100. I imagine the PS4 will launch with 500GB, and increase in size with a new bundle or model every year.

As for waiting til nextgen to play DCUO though, IMO, I wouldn't. Nextgen will probably launch with (or a year after) games like Everquest 3. FFXIV supposedly is a lot better now, and is seeing release in less than 2 months, to my knowledge. I wouldn't even be surprised to see SOE release another DCUO sometime nextgen, given it's success. Waiting a few years to play a game usually means that by the time you get around to it, something in the same genre has, or is coming out that's doing everything better. Not to mention the population on servers will go down as time goes by, and ppl focus on newer games.
 
and thats assuming the servers are even still up or will remain up long enough to get full use out of them
 
I think DCUO will be around. it will be updated that's all, most likely and have an Expansion like wow, if they do that.

Ok so it was short, but it was too the point, with what they showed. you can relocate your home base which will cost points and you can have multiple like how batman has auxiliary batcaves and you set them around the city of you liking. you pick up the home base's or lair with deeds which you can have more then one. Ok bumping this up. They have through Mepps postin this info (on the face book that puts that all up there), just put up the recorded version, if any one has missed missed it, you can see it by clicking on the link that fallows mepps name which head to face book or by clicking on the image below that has home turf entrance next to it which the one on twitch. .

Really really really can't wait for Home Turf.

Also am I the only one who wants a Green Arrow DLC?
 
The last time i played this i had to sit in a que for like 2 hours. is it still like that or have people moved on to better games?
 
there are still players on the servers, some are more popular then others though.

http://dcuosource.com/ is still around they might tell you which are the ones people are in the most on the consoles.

But it becomes like this til new content is added that's interesting plus a raised level cap. if other have'nt burnt them selves out that is. down time from this is a good thing though.
