DC Vs Mortal Kombat?

I think a Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game is more likely at this point. I mean Sonic and friends are now appearing in Mario games and on the Nintendo Wii and I think that can at least be partially attributed to their...sucky...sucky recent games. I mean wow, Sonic hasn't been good in years and hey MK seems to have gone down that same road so why not? Street Fighter is pretty much the Mario of fighting games.
I dont think they will. The two have completely different playa mechanics and I dont think they could easily be combined without compromising the other. Its not like when Capcom worked with SNK

I think it can be done in Capcom's style. Especially with how the new Street Fighter is done. Super combos developed for the MK side and fatalities developed for the Street Fighter side. Add blood animations into the mix on the level of MK vs. DC and you're good. They can probably even keep the physical damage and ripping costumes. I'd love to see MK played at a faster pace.

It's something that's been wanted for so long. I really can see Capcom buying the rights to MK similar to WWE buying the rights to WCW and ECW and using their characters.

MK will never sell to another country. It's really the only popular American made fighting game. It's one of the few game-to-film adaptions in Hollywood that did well (and that doesn't utterly suck), and it's back catalogue still sales. Ed Bood is not willing to give that status up.

They just need a new developement team, and Boon will prob find a new American distributor to release the game.

Saying we will see a MK vs SF is like saying we will get a Marvel Vs DC game :csad:

I would love Capcom to do a Marvel vs DC game. It would be all kinds of awesome.

Or Marvel vs DC vs Capcom vs Guitar Hero.

lol I like how you threw guitar hero in there for kicks.

I just beat this game in DC. Tomorrow or sometime this weekend I'll play through MK. I like the controls a lot more than MK. Not as much as Tekken though.

Midway's team of developers responsible for the 17-year-old Mortal Kombat franchise is currently in active talks with other publishers to leave the company and for its own studio, sources tell Kotaku.

The MK team, which comprises about 50 developers, is said to be in discussions with a handful of unnamed publishers, with senior members of the group handling negotiations for a possible exodus from Midway. According to Midway sources who wished to remain anonymous, one of the catalysts for the move is a lack of payment in bonuses due to MK team members based on meeting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales targets.

Sources said that the Mortal Kombat team has become increasingly "frustrated" with the handling of Midway's bankruptcy filing. MK staffers also expressed irritation from being in the position of delivering million unit-selling titles on time and on a bi-annual schedule while other projects at the company languish in development.

Midway representatives, when contacted for comment, opted not to discuss the Mortal Kombat team's plans, saying that the team was in "good shape." They did, however, want to stress that Midway itself is not withholding any owed payment to the Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe developers.

"Midway is not refusing to pay out those bonuses," PR reps told us. "It's the unsecured creditors committee that is refusing to allow us to pay them. They're the ones holding that up."

If the MK team—who are apparently not under contract at Midway—does find a new studio to call home at a publisher other than Midway, the fighting game franchise may not go with them. That, as well as having to abandon work on the follow-up to MK vs. DC, tentatively titled Mortal Kombat 9, was going to be "tough."

Should the key Mortal Kombat talent leave, it could be a substantial blow to the ailing Midway, which has already closed and consolidated many of its in-house development teams.

Midway apparently has liquidation as one of the options on their table, and apparently the only way their management is going to get any bonuses is if either A) they get their debt down to size, or B) they liquidate all of their assets successfully. I think liquidation is much more likely, and if they do liquidate, it's much more likely that Mortal Kombat will stay with its creators.

an update on the whole midway situation, via kotaku...

With Midway in the middle of troublesome bankruptcy proceedings and rumors of the Mortal Kombat dev team leaving, it's a little surprising to learn that not one, but three companies are considering buying the company.

According to our sources, Warner Brothers, Ubisoft and a private Chicago investor are all looking over the company for possible acquisition.

We're told that Ubisoft has been in talks with Midway for weeks now and that a vice president for Warner Bros. was visiting the studio just last week.

Reached for comment this morning, a Midway rep said the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.

If our sources are correct, than Warner Bros. is the most likely candidate for a possible purchase.

I think this is good news. MK will live on with or without Midway, im hoping Ubisoft or Warner Bros buy MK

Warner Bros would need to do a lot more than just buying Midway to get into the games industry in the manner they want.

Since Warner Bros. has already cooperated with Midway on DC vs MK, it makes sense that they'd be interested in acquiring the MK franchise. If they buy MK, it'll ensure a few more sequels coming out of this series.

Do either of those companies have experience with fighting games? Or would the Midway staff be part of the deal?

Ed Boon and his MK team all come with the deal, they are the ones leaving Midway for better opportunities. If Warner Bros buys MK there could be a lot of MK/DC games in the future

Now I'm suddenly not as excited anymore. I want MK to get away from the old team. MKvsDC was ok, but not really much better than the last MK games.

Does this mean Warner Brothers gets the rights for Mortal Kombat movies too?

Looks like WB is getting closer to purchasing Midway.

I really enjoy MKvs.DCU. I wouldn't mind seeing another Vs. game at some point in the future. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe vs. Marvel vs. Capcom anyone? :wow:

Im still really meh how MK vs. DC was suppose to have a DLC but it never came, i heard Midway just started working on a new MK game. -.-

In fairness they are bankrupt and likely to have their doors closed any day now. So, I'm sure they have other pressing concerns right now.

DC vs. MK was their most selling game since 2002, the could have profited from a DLC easily IMHO.
