Deadpool DEADPOOL: User Review Thread (SPOILER FREE)

Enjoyed it.

If Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker (AIRPLANE, THE NAKED GUN) had ever made a superhero movie DEADPOOL, at it's funniest, is what it would've looked like.

And, IMO, that's some comparison.

That was fun, would give it an 8/10

Some great music choices, hilariousl and a **** ton of violence. What more could I ask?!

I can see that, but thought it was more along the lines of a Seth MacFarlane CBM. It had that kind of same feel to the comedy, like in Ted.

I'm a little torn on this film. On one hand, it was hilarious and had some nice action, but on the other I feel like nothing much really happened.

I'd give it a solid 7/10.

I like that nothing much really happened. It's good to finally see a "day in the life" kinda story in one of these films. It's personal and intimate. No contrived end of the world scenario.

Yep, it was a nice change, just a simple revenge story.

Yup.

The whole invasion and end of the world stuff is getting kind of played out.

Haha, a few months ago, I went to the movies with my future mother-in-law, and while the previews were on, she whispered to me, "Everything has to be about the end of the world now."

Immediately after she said that, the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer started, and she rolled her eyes and laughed. :funny:

Not everything has to have high stakes. I'm more than happy with a smaller-scale movie every so often. Variety is a good thing!

Yup, plays better in multiple viewings that way too.

Another thing I'll say about the movie is that it came out on the perfect weekend. It IS, actually, a great Valentine's Day movie ... Much to my surprise.

Quick question: A friend of mine is a prude and is making a big fuss about a sex scene that is supposed to be in it. How is it? PG? PG-13? R? She's married to my best friend and he really wants to see it but if the scene is too bad she'll refuse.

Ask your friend how she feels about a woman dominating.

She's still a prude no matter who is running the show.

It's a montage of scenes with amongst other things involving thanksgiving food, Vampire Halloween teeth and a strap-on.

Tell your friends wife to man up, haha.

Just got back from seeing it. While I did love the film, I was kind of disappointed because there were very few scenes in the film that we hadn't already seen a million times in trailers. I honestly can't think of a single scene from the film that we hadn't already seen a portion of or shots from, so there very few "surprises". That's not the films fault, so I wouldn't use that as a knock against the film, but it did hinder my enjoyment some. Still, I really did enjoy the film and eagerly await the sequel...I'll just have to not watch any marketing.

I agree that we were shown a bit too much of some scenes so it felt like most of the high notes of those were already old. I don't think they gave away the entire movie but some stretches of the movie were flatter because of the marketing. Perhaps because this is a real comedy and the jokes are often out of left field so they benefit from the surprise factor.

Just got back from the movie.

Going in, I was extremely skeptical. I disliked a lot of the trailers and most of the promo material felt forced to me. I have to say that the movie pleasantly surprised me.

PROS:
Well-shot/choreographed action scenes - The action scenes felt like they had weight and were very easy to follow.

A lot of the humor worked - I smiled a lot throughout the movie. Not every single joke landed, but the good outweighs the bad. I was afraid the fourth wall breaking was going to come off as obnoxious but they handled it pretty well.

Likable cast - I can't think of one character or actor in this movie that I disliked. Reynolds is extremely charming as Wade Wilson, TJ Miller does the expected sidekick thing, Colossus is funny and bad-ass. Sure, Ed Skrein as Ajax is somewhat generic but I do feel like the actor elevated that character and made us root for Deadpool to take him out.

Successful integration of the X-Men franchise, including the meta references - There is one joke at the end that involves Deadpool's mask that killed me. Overall, I liked the addition of the X-Men characters and Deadpool's snarky references.

Cons:

The movie sinks a bit in the middle - In the middle of the movie there is a lot of focus on the relationship of Wade and Vanessa. While I didn't dislike this part of the story, I found myself eagerly anticipating the next Deadpool scene and becoming impatient. A lot of the jokes didn't really work in this section of the story and it's so down-to-earth that it almost becomes dull in the context of the bigger story.

I went in expecting to hate the film and I came out liking it quite a bit. I'm not as over the moon about it as most people on the internet, but I had a good time.

A solid 7,5/10.

Pros: The breaking the fourth wall, Deadpool seeing cartoon animals, the wisecracks and quips from both Deadpool and Weasel, and the inclusion of a comic book accurate Colossus and the new and improved Negasonic Teenage Warhead. For the most part, Wade and Vanessa are cute together in a weird, kinky sort of way.

Cons: Ajax and Angeldust were a tad one-dimensional. The ending kind of ends up being a generic superhero film versus the "game-changer" the TV spots are claiming it is. Could've done without Wade kissing the one guy on the cheek and the strap-on scene (sorry not my cup of tea but cool if others like it).

Overall, though, I give it a 7 or 8/10.

P.S. My Cable picks: Stephen Lang, Michael Biehn, Jon Hamm or Liam Neeson.

9.5 /10 Love, love, loved it and only hope that future FOX cbms approach the material with as much reverence and vigor. Did I tell you I loved it?

That's kind of where I land.

8/10 rounded up.

Yet it's tremendously fun and pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. Straight forward limited plot with a lot of funny one-liners and a lot of winking at the camera. The insider jokes worked best of all. They did a lot with a small budget and each actor was perfectly cast. Ryan Reynolds was indeed born to play this character. All that being said, the amount of praise and hype this movie has generated isn’t exactly warranted. I’m not going to label it as overrated because it’s not fair to the film itself. It’s a raunchy romp with limited action and nicely placed humor but nothing more. For true fans that is more than enough. For cinema fans in general, it’s a light but pleasantly crazy way to spend and hour and a half munching popcorn.
