Dexter - Part 4

I don't like Season 8 Jaime.

Jealous and insecure.

Although all is not yet clear, it seems Vogel is trying to get Dexter to get back to the Code by hunting down her former patients (who she knows some have turned out to be killers). If you think about it, while seeking out the BS, Dexter found the fitness cannibal who happened to meet the Code and wound up on his table. It really seems like Vogel is experimenting on Dexter for the sake of her book, maybe, and that she will obviously try to cause a rift between Dexter and Deb.

The thing that bothers me is that Quinn's suspicions of Dexter should be flying off the radar right now, but because season 5 was so inconsequential the developments that might have mattered in that season have been essentially ignored.

But I'm guessing Quinn will be back on Dexter's trail at some point.

I agree with this. Vogel knows exactly what she is doing and is getting Dex to clear her slate for her. :)

I mean, what is she supposed to think? She has every right to be jealous or suspicious, IMO. Quinn and Deb had a very serious relationship. Now he's running out of bed at the middle of the night for Deb and keeping things from Jaime. We obviously know nothing's going on with them (yet), but Jaime doesn't know that.

So in the scenes from next week, [blackout]is Vogel trying to get Deb to consider suicide? [/blackout]

Well after this episode. Gotta say Vogel is some sort of baddie. Don't know what kind.

Nice episode. I like that the plot is moving forward all the time, unlike other series. And I understand Deb, I mean, she's a very well written character, very layered, and her acting makes it all even better.
It's also good to see Quinn having a little more to do this season.

Please someone remind me, what was Quinn thinking about Dexter in previous seasons? He thought he was the BHB? I really can't remember.

I can't remember exactly what all he suspected but it was that Dexter was behind at least Liddy's death if not others.

Quinn suspected Dexter killed Rita

Liking this series at the moment but I'm not quite sure whether this build is all leading up to some mind blowing series finale. However we are only 3 episodes in so I might be being OTT a bit.

Really enjoyed last nights episode. Love the preview for next week too. Definitely interested in seeing what the endgame is for the who0le show, hoping they go out with a bang that blows my mind!

I am sad because I know that I won't be participating in this thread and have the show spoiled because I read some spoilers. I don't cable TV so I have to wait until the DVD comes out for season eight.
yes me too:oldrazz:

You know, this is probably a strange thing to say, but am I the only one not getting a very 'end of series' feel from this season thus far? I know we still have 9 episodes left, but there's a sense of something lacking. I'm not sure what: urgency, finality maybe. This really is feeling a lot like just another season. I'm reminded of Weeds' last season (although, I don't think that was originally planned as the last season, if I'm not mistaken). It's not been bad or anything, just not giving me that feeling at all.

It does feel like it's headed to something but it isn't a strong last season feeling to me unlike say Burn Notice where it feels definitely "this is the end."

Man they've got to stop with the stupid VO, it's been infuriating for years now, Dex only gets a witty line now and then but most of the time it's used to spoon-feed the viewers in case they haven't catch up what's going on in the scene, I mean we got this "A cannibal...a consumer of human flesh" and "Of course he's heard of Vogel. She treated him. He's lying." (which was already established in the previous scene between Dex and Vogel) in the latest episode. Stop, please.

I don't know, man. I like it. It sets this apart from other shows, in that we almost always know what exactly our main character is thinking. Yes, sometimes the VO states the obvious, but if you think about it, it's almost like Dexter is always talking to himself in his head...trying to figure things out and sometimes justify his actions. This is especially true when he talks to Harry (another part of himself). Harry warns Dexter that someone can't be trusted, Dexter says he needs to find out the truth, etc. -- it's like a constant battle going on in his head.

What I like is that Dexter doesn't often express himself around others, since, ya know, he's a sociopath. While in the Miami Metro building, he's quiet and often alone in his tiny office. At crime scenes, he only offers up his "expert" opinion and little more, but his mind is always racing and we get to hear his (sometimes simple) thoughts, worries/concerns, and even aspirations.

To add to that, the countless times he's mentioned that a crime scene is his escape...something he can control. He's said it once in the last two episodes.

Maybe there's something to that.

The VO also is purposefully misleading sometimes because dexter is wrong about certain suspicions. I still love it. It also continues to help characterize dexter. Not just in choice of words but in delivery.

I think I'm about half and half on it. theShape brought up good points about how the VO can really add to things. But I think Crockett is right that it sometimes is pretty unneeded, especially at times when Dexter just tells us something we just found out (like the lying example above). I've never been too bothered by it, but I think there is a balance they never particularly hit.

I've always liked the voice over.

and Weeds final season was ridiculous lol... everything leads up to a like 6 year time jump and it just ends. :lmao:

Yeah, Weeds was really bad. The youngest son with that mustache was ridiculous.

I find the VO really good in the first two seasons where it's noticeable with the dark comedic lines but it's been insufferable for awhile now and it just takes me out from the scene, now I'm still engaged to the show but I believe if the VO keep to telling what's on Dexter's mind rather than his actions at that exact moment, if you know what I mean.

I think people need to temper wanting to feel Mind Blown in the end, There is really only so many ways this show ends.

1. Dexter gets caught
2. Dexter doesn't get caught.
3. Dexter gets found out, runs, & is never caught.
4. He dies.

I think this show is just going to end. Nothing wrong with that. As long as it makes sense. I don't care how mind blowing it is.

Once you get in to the mind blowing story telling. You risk it not making sense to the narrative of the whole series. All I ask is that I can sit back & watch the entire series, & have it all come together.

That's All I want.

To be honest. I am more interested in where Deb is going to end up. Than Dexter.
