Dexter - Part 5

Robo-Doakes would instantly save the season and I would eat all the crow in the world.

If Robo-Doakes came out, I would be one surprised mother****er.

Robo-Doakes is a stupid idea but still awesomely better than what the spoilers are saying will happen.

I do kind of get where some are kind of taken back by the negativity, but I remember how this thread was when season 6 was running, and I don't know, it seems about the same to me. I don't think this season was as bad as that one, but it's still pretty weak, and the disappointment over this being the finale probably builds up.

It does suck to like something when everyone else around is disliking it, but you know, everyone has to be on that end sometimes. And this season has really turned into quite a mess. There's still some good stuff here, but it's all so muddled.

I liked how this season started. I really enjoyed the season 8 opener and possibly the following 2 but I thought that was just the show setting up the pieces.

I had no idea they'd still be like that 7 episodes on. The last one picked up a little but swapped dull for incredibly stupid.

Thought the season was going great. Episodes 1-5 were really good. Then it just went to ****. Getting worse with each episode.

When it's all said and done, I'm just gonna pretend this season ended at episode 5. Dexter, Deb, and Vogel on the boat all somewhat happy and accepting of each other.

She was fine in S7 but I still have no idea why she is in S8. She came in just so she can leave again. And I don't see why after S7 she'd be into Dexter...

It's relatively simple to me. They're the only people that either has truly fallen in love with. Dexter has been searching for a reason to be and feel normal, somebody who can accept his faults while making him actually want to be a better person. Same goes for Hannah. They've made frustratingly stupid mistakes because of this. Things that some people here find so stupid they think the shows terrible are alot of the time just mistakes the characters are making in this unfamiliar territory. Definitely frustrating to watch because we know better as omnipotent viewers, but from their perspective they think its the right move.

Given that the whole show has been about dexter growing up, it's a very natural progression of his story. Sometimes sloppily executed, or there might have been a more interesting way to pull it off, but IMO still very true to its original purpose and style. Much more so than say season 6. But the characters reactions should be different because they have evolved into different people over the course of the series.

Hannah ruins everything.

Yup. The instant Dexter cut her loose in season 7 I thought to myself, "Well, so much for the comeback."

It wasn't the cutting Hannah loose per se, but the feeling of what was inevitably to come - another forced romantic relationship and 'happy ending' for Dexter.

Dude has left so many trails and loose ends in the past few seasons, then he's just going to move to Argentina on a whim. LOL.

I really doubt there's a happy ending in store, but i could be wrong. Everything they've set up seems to point to that not happenin though.

Ps if you've read the spoilers, please don't comment. Maybe I'll just avoid this thread til it's over, haha

Damn you people. Now I can't stop thinking of 'Surprise, mother ****er!' in a robotic voice.

It's either that or you imagine him saying, "Your turn, creepy mother****er!" to somewhat paraphrase.

"Dead or alive, you're coming with me mother****er"

I think that's a fair take.

I disagree with whoever said the writers didn't try or gave up though. I don't think that's the case at all. If you listen to the Dexter Wrap-Up podcasts, Scott Reynolds and some of the other writers who have been on are very clearly fired up about what they cooked up for this season. I just think they wanted to jam pack it with twists and turns and they packed in a few too many and there people got whiplash. On top of that the general direction of the story seems to be moving towards a possible ending that many aren't pleased with. Add it all up and it's a perfect recipe for fan backlash. It seems clear to me that people would've preferred a more focused finale that was lighter on subplots and more directly related to whether Dexter would be outed or not. Deb vs. Dexter or Batista vs. Dexter, etc. That definitely could've worked, but alas, they went another way. I do agree that this season isn't HORRIBLE as a standalone, and that it's the fact that it's the final season that's drawing all this negativity.

I have no idea what the spoilers are and don't want to know, but I'm still rooting for the show to at least have a good finale. The Office proved this year that you can still pull off an amazing and fitting finale post shark-jump that reminds everyone why they loved the show in the first place.

Are you kidding me? It's an awesome idea! Doakes survived the explosion (cause he's an AMAZING MOTHERF***ER!!! Unlike normal people..) and so he escapes the morgue where his body (whats' left of it) is so he goes seek help from LEX LUTHOR - thats right ppl!- begging him to help him seek revenge on Dexter Morgan! Luthor helps Doakes become half motherf***er, half machine and we're gonna have one hell of a finale!

wow so many negative nacy's here

questioned why you guys even come back week after week after week just to bash it

nothing else to do?

Please leave and don't come back' till the final episode(or never).:BA

I don't think it's fair to say the writers gave up on this season and put no effort towards it. I'm sure they somehow think they're making compelling television this season. It's just that not everyone agrees, ESPECIALLY not people on the Hype. However, I have seen other people on the Internet (and spoken with some friends in real life) who don't hate it and are still invested. For instance, Entertainment Weekly posts recaps of episodes and in their comments sections, you can see that plenty of people are still digging it, discussing it, and unsure of what happens next.

In terms of this Dexter thread, though, we've seen a total shift that might be revolutionary for the Hype (or at least the Misc TV Series section). Originally, we were all like a bunch of little Dexter nerds, happily engaging in intellectual conversation about the show, gushing over its merits, eagerly anticipating its return, and being critical when we needed to be (*cough* Doomsday Killers *cough*). But now, it's like everyone has morphed into a bunch of jocks who openly mock Dexter. The whole thread is filled with jab after jab. Most of the die-hard fans here have "cheated" on the show by giving in to spoilers weeks before the show's end. Whenever ("if" ever) someone says something positive about this season, it's either shot down immediately or completely ignored. Whenever someone like myself questions why fans chose to read spoilers, or suggests people be more careful with posts, the response is like "Who cares, bro" "Go away" "You're crazy" "Breaking Bad's the best".

It's definitely weird in here, and as I'm sure most of you would agree, it's sad to have the show end on this note.

Well Said.

So only people who like the show no matter how bad it gets, should be allowed to post? What you want is essentially an echo-chamber. And a troll is someone who just posts "lolololol dexter sux" with no reasons given. Most people who complain do so, because they used to love the show so much and are very disappointed in how much it's declined. I was a longtime Dexter viewer and loved the show up until halfway through season 5. Now I find it almost unwatchable. Sorry if that kind of honesty offends you.

If only people who still enjoyed the direction Dexter has taken posted here I'm pretty sure this thread would be dead and decaying at the bottom of the forum by now.

No, but they should be allowed to post without that kind of dismissive tone.

Also, it IS an echo chamber right now. The few of us who don't passionately hate this season ARE the dissenters now. We're bringing the diversity. Welcome it. :oldrazz:

Well I guess I'm in a small majority...but I have enjoyed the final season...it is by no means the best season..but I loved some of the interesting things that have matured this season...I LOVED Dr. Vogel...Charlotte Rampling was incredible...now, as for the final season and where Dexter should end up, i feel his evolution from stone cold serial killer to someone who can love and care has been what i feel his journey should be...being with hannah and harrison just feels right to me...
