Dexter - Part 5

Very hot.

But I remember it getting to the scene with Dexter about to kill Saxon (obviously he isn't gonna kill him) and thinking the show has come up with one HELL of a reason as to why Dexter doesn't kill him. Annnnnd it didn't he literally says "I don't want to kill you" and lets him go for Deb... fully conscious... and with a full set of knives.

Where the hell has the "don't get caught" rule gone!

It was just stupid. Pure pure stupidity.

Absolutely nothing that has happened this season to lead to the finale has happened naturally. Convenient things have happened, like Harrison falling over to get Hannah out, a storm coming from nowhere (wonderful metaphor writers), the Marshall walking in on Saxon seconds before Deb....

And also if Dexter mentions that he has changed one more bleeding time....!!

No kidding. He couldn't stay for a couple extra minutes to help her? As soon as she untied an arm to cuff him, you know he would go straight for a knife like he ended up doing with the marshal.

This probably sums up the main flaws of this final season. :( What a contrast to Breaking Bad. I know we keep saying it but it's the absolute truth. Maybe they should have just ended things last season or thought about this just a little bit more, I don't know. I just know that it isn't exactly wowing me.

If the marshall had never come Deb would have had no problems handling a restrained killer... I definitely knew he shouldn't do it, because we as an audience KNOW it's going to go to ****. He couldn't be there when backup arrived, it would be even more ridiculous, so it only made sense for him to leave. For all its' errors, sometimes you guys pick the ones that actually did make sense, despite them being obvious to the viewer.

I am not quite sure. Where are Hannah & Dexter going again?....lol

ARGENTINA!

who was Hannahs boyfriend that talked about going to Argentina with her... well him and RoboDoakes are going to fight DemonDex and wipe argentina off the map

Dexter didn't HAVE to be there but Dexter used to be the most careful person on Earth and would have at least injected him to get rid of any slight possibility that Saxon could overpower her.

when was the last time dexter killed anyone? like 2 months ago?

a show about a serial killer who doesn't really kill anymore... 40 years of being a psychopath, but hey I am fine now thanks to some blonde girl i met last year

That's a bit reductionist. Dexter losing his need and want to kill and becoming more human has been something that's being happening through the entire season more or less. Even early in last season he mentioned how he felt like he didn't even need to kill to live anymore.

he said a couple season ago 'I dont need to kill you, but I want to' or something like that. he hasn't had the need for a while now... he just enjoyed it and took out the trash... and to protect his family. instead theres a buildup to kill saxon all season long and this BS happens? come on.

Deb getting shot... Elway... Hurricane... whats next to keep dexter from leaving? airplane has a flat tire? Harrison going to fall and bust his chin on the moving sidewalks in the airport?

grr my frustration with this show is so upsetting. After last season I thought 'hell yea they are going to end one of my favorite shows with a bang.'

i thought moving the season to the summer would be nice cause its more Dexter 3 months earlier.. but not it makes it look like they just completely rushed the writing just to get it over with.

Please no. I don't wanna die.

I'm not sure what you're talking, but I was referring to last season when he killed Hannah's dad. I forget the exact wording, but he basically says that he doesn't need to kill anymore. It seems like in season 8 he doesn't even particularly enjoy it much anymore. So, it's not like his desire to kill is suddenly disappeared or something, it's eroded over time.

I do agree about what happened with Saxon overall, though. Just some odd writing.

Well... you're right, that changes everything!

Kind of sends an awkward message that all any killer really needs is a phenomenally hot girlfriend, doesn't it? ;)

The next thing you know we'll have serial killers demanding hot girlfriends in their taunting letters to police and newspapers to make them stop.

That article is right. Not even the cast and crew are trying to defend this season.

Scott Reynolds has defended it and said the writers are all proud of it.

I must say though, as someone who was on board for the first half of the season, it is kind of a bummer to see the show go out with something of a whimper.

I believe that all the pieces were in place within the first 4-5 episodes to make this a worthwhile final season. With the 6th-9th episodes I tried to hang on and hold onto the hope that they were being methodical and playing their cards close to the chest. I grew very annoyed with people who were giving up on the show midway through and reading spoilers. But now it seems pretty clear that they were right and my faith in the season was a bit misplaced. I still don't think this season is turrrrible, I still prefer it to Seasons 5 and 6, but it's definitely not living up to the inherent excitement that a finale season can bring. Especially a show like this.

I think the bottom line is that they really did show their hand too soon with the Bay Harbor Butcher storyline. Michael C. Hall always said that. Honestly, could there have been a better final season storyline than that? The show NEVER reached that nail-biting tension again after Season 2. Ah well. I still don't regret being a fan of this show and sticking with it all these years. The end is leaving a lot to be desired, but it's still a show that entertained the hell out of me for a very long time.

The problem for the most at the beginning was definitely that feeling of lacking. I think the problem has grown, though. Mainly it's just so convoluted and muddled that it lost all of it's focus. It seems to have found it for the last two episodes, but it still feels like a stumble.

I get this vague impression that they were trying to do everything Dexter has ever done as a show previously (from the protege, to the love interest, to the doubt from Deb, to facing a killer similar to him just without the code, etc.) and cram it into a single season. I don't know if that was intention or not, but I think it probably is the real heart of the problem.
