Anyone love how the chief knew everything that Deb was searching for?

The scene when Dexter tried to blame himself for what happened between Deb and Brian, and Deb told him to shut up, was great.

Whether he knew about Harry choppin' down his CI's, that's one thing. But knowing about Dexter being Laura Moser's son and whatnot? That's no surprise. Clearly, all Harry's colleagues at the time knew. How could they not?

who's going to take care of the kids now?

It has never been established that Dexter adopted Astor and Cody. Getting married doesn't automatically make you the guardian, so unless he adopted them off screen, he is not legally able to take care of them. (I don't think they would skip over something so important, so I'm inclined to think he never adopted them) I assume that's the real reason the grandparent characters were created and brought into the show.

I think Dex will just have Harrison for a good part of Season 5 while he's dealing with what happened to Rita, and then he will try to take care of Astor and Cody when he gets his head back on straight. Or it will be Dexter and Harrison from here on out, while A and C are with their grandparents.

Indeed. Its going to be very difficult to top Lithgow. The only way I can see it done is to get a character who surpasses Trinity. I've always thought the Doctor Danko character from the books (who leaves people alive but amputates their arms, legs, eye lids, nose, tounge, ears, lips, and gentiles) would be a bit too extreme for the show, but I think he's the only way to surpass Trinity and take it to the next level. Plus someone who operates on that level, a monster who makes Trinity look like small beans might be exactly what Dex needs to get back in his groove.

Either that or cast Robin Williams. Anyone who has seen Insomnia or One Hour Photo knows what a great villain he can make. Though that might be too close to Lithgow.
imo Jeff Daniels would be a cool villain

Yeah, that's true about the grandparents Geo7877.

Just watched the ep...WOW! Just WOW! I'm still buzzing! My ONLY gripe about this ep is that we still don't know the deal with Quinn and why he took the money. His character seems to be up in the air at this point.

So would Kevin Costner. He was awesome in 'Mr.Brooks'.

It definitely poses an interesting challenge for Dexter. He was still struggling with his new roles as a husband AND a father, even with Rita's help. I would think the most likely direction for Dexter to take next season is to make a concerted effort to put his dark passenger to rest for good. He's really going to struggle with it, and see if he can willfully be what he's for most part been pretending to be up until now.

One thing that's been bothering me, though: Wouldn't Arthur's family eventually say something about "Kyle Butler"? There's every likelihood that they could learn about the Kyle Butler murders. And Dexter being at the house before the cops raided the place would still be mad suspicious if I were any of the cops from Homicide. That's a pretty big loose end to not address.

Because of Rita, the Trinity case is still going to be open next season. There was no time to deal with Kyle Butler in the finale, I'm sure they will bring it up next year.

But at the same time, why would they snitch on a dude that by all accounts was trying to protect them from their abusive, psychotic patriarch?

The same reason that the wife and daughter shielded him from Dexter on Thanksgiving.

the Trinity case would still be open with or without Rita.

LAst warning, use spoiler tags for our DVR viewers until the 24 hour period is up or I'm going to start issuing probations.

I have to say that I was disappointed with the season finale.....very disappointed.

Well, what we've got now is scrutiny on Dexter's life with his wife being a murder victim. The FBI is officially involved now. That's attention he really doesn't need. They'll also pay close attention to why Rita was even murdered at all; She's not young enough or single, so she shouldn't even be a bathtub murder. And she's a mother of three, not two, so she wouldn't have been a jumping murder. The more I think about it, the bigger of a cluster**** this is turning out to be from a storytelling standpoint. I think the writers may have very well f***ed themselves with this one.

But things had obviously changed from the daughter's "I hope he doesn't come back this time" comment.
