I wonder why the comic preview depicted the scene different. Should've kept in her kicking down the bad guy.

In the first part of the conversation, the team behind the new Rock 'n' Roll "Black Canary" discussed taking a classic DC hero into a fun, new direction, having Dinah Lance head up a rock band, and re-contextualizing the iconic fishnets that Canary is so well-known for wearing.

On taking Dinah Lance in a whole new direction:
Brenden Fletcher: I think, for me, it just feels like what you naturally want to do as a storyteller. You want to take characters that -- if you're taking other characters that have already existed and you want to do something new and fresh with them, always. And for us, I think we're just trying to stay true to who we picture Dinah Lance to be, but throw her into a new set of circumstances, and let's see how she reacts.
Annie Wu: And it's like amazing when old school fans come up to us and they're like, "This is so weird, but also the Dinah Lance I love." So, that's good feedback.
Fletcher: I get that all the time -- "I didn't think I was going to like this, but this is the best 'Black Canary' I've read in years." [Laughs]
Wu: Yeah, yeah, and we're like, "We'll take that. Yeah, okay."
In the next part of their interview, Fletcher and Wu talk about the legacy of Dinah Lance, a character who originally debuted in 1947, and how even though Canary may look different on the exterior, she's still the same fan-favorite character underneath. Fletcher and Wu then make comparisons between the different eras of Dinah Lance and those of rock legend David Bowie. Wu also discusses the thought process behind the various artistic styles and designs used in "Black Canary," and Fletcher sings Wu's praises as his artist and creative partner on the book.

On artist Annie Wu's amazing work on the book:
Fletcher: It's great to get to work with Annie ... Everything I'm doing I'm just trying to give Annie something fun to draw, because she just wants to draw nothing more than fights on top of buses.
Wu: It's true.
Fletcher: I'm so sorry [Laughs]. Okay, that was the one thing she didn't want--
Wu: One of the first things I told Brenden was like, "I'm not so -- it takes me a long time to draw cars. Maybe try to avoid that."
Fletcher: This is true.
Wu: And then, a few months later, he's like, "Hey, issue #3 is -- it's just a car chase, and most of it takes place on top of a bus."
Fletcher: You managed to angle most of the shots though to cut out the actual vehicle itself ... There was a lot of implication of speed via tassels on the leather jacket. And, you know, you had to draw some motorbikes. I'm really sorry about that. But, for the most part, I've been writing to serve the kind of stuff that -- the kind of violence that Annie would like to draw.
Closing out their conversation, Fletcher and Wu hint at the big changes that lie ahead for Dinah Lance and her band in "Black Canary," and one huge "mic drop" in an upcoming issue.

On what to expect from "Black Canary" in the near future:
Fletcher: Just a handful of words: battle of the bands. I think what we've all been waiting for.
Wu: Yeah, like it has to happen.
Fletcher: You knew it had to happen at some point. But this isn't just some standard battle of the bands. This is a battle of the bands with some superpowers. So things get a little dicey. There are some big changes in store for Dinah Lance and her crew. And we're going to learn mostly all of the answers that we wanted to get out of the series. I think by the time that issue #6 rolls around ... There's a big mic drop at the end of issue #6. Something really huge happens, and Black Canary will never be the same again!

Haven't seen the Canary Cry so far. Hopefully it's because they're working on making it look good this season. Shouldn't be that hard I think. Skyrim was a whole game about shouty powers. Or the second Incredible Hulk movie when the Army jeeps used those sonic miniguns on him.

I think the hardest thing about the Canary Cry is explaining why Dinah doesn't open up with it and roflstomps all of TA's fights before they start. If it were a meta-power they could fall back on it tiring her out. But it's tech and it's puny in comparison to the real deal.

Having Laurel be the one who decided to resurrect Sara really annoyed me. I mean, I get it. You'll do everything for your sister and all but it's like an open invitation for the fandom to hate on her again. Would've preferred if it was done using other means. That being said, her bonding scene with Diggle was a pleasant surprise.

Yeah, having Laurel be the one to get that crazy idea really seemed like a step back for her character since last season. But then again, she was also willing to kill Malcolm with a gun, so it's not like they've written her to be in control of her emotions when Sara is involved.

As happy as I am that Sara is going to be back, I also really dislike that Laurel is the one to bring her back. She pretty much throws away all reason, ignores everyone's advice and obvious warning signs, like Thea turning into a rage monster. But she's doing it for the right reasons, so obviously it's all ok. Even if there's a high risk that whatever comes out of the waters of the Pit, won't be Sara.

I'm pretty sure we're going to deal with a Soulless body, that will be highly aggressive and act on instinct. And John will probably bind Sara's soul back with her body.

Why couldn't Damian have been the one to resurrect Sara? I'd rather have Laurel be able to bring a brainwashed Sara back to her senses, than have her playing with elements she doesn't understand.

Yeah this would've made more sense. All the pieces are in place too with Quentin working for Damien. That could've been Damien's leverage to get Quentin to work for him (obviously he won't tell her that Sara's going to go crazy and all). Or it could be the other way around where he will raise Sara from the dead unhinge and all that if Quentin doesn't work for him.

They kinda have the tendency to not go with what makes sense in the context of the story. Like Ollie simply surviving a stab wound and fall off a mountain, and then do some crazy play, pretending to be brainwashed, going so far as to kill a person to keep his cover intact. He should have been resurrected by Ra's, using the Pit, be actually brainwashed, and it would have been up to Team Arrow to free him from Ra's control.

How would Damien know who Sara was if he didn't even know who the real Arrow was?

They missed SUCH a great storyline with DD bringing back Sara and holding it over Q. Could've had Sara break free, fight TA, Laurel could've saved her, brought in Constantine to bring back her soul. Send her off to LoT with a good set up.

I wonder if Katie has taken over hair and wardrobe control of Laurel.

I wouldn't be surprised since it's a major step up.

She was a member of the LoA afterall.

She was a member of the LoA afterall.

She wasn't an initiate either. She went by Ta-er al-Sahfer, so I'm guessing she was a horseman or at least a lieutenant. If HIVE and the LOA were going at it for the last 65 years then Darhk would know who she was.

His intelligence on the LOA isn't that good, Al-Saheim name means the Arrow and he was Ra's successor.

Al Sha-Him was also very short lived. Saras been part of the league for 4+ years.
