Arrow Dinah Laurel Lance/Katie Cassidy Thread - Part 3

It is funny how many people are claiming to give u this next season if Laurel dies, yet in s1-s2 everyone hated her.

Well most of the people saying they will be done with the show have always been fans of her and others are doing it because it makes it appear they are full steam ahead on this still being Olicity and not Green Arrow.. The two Team Arrow characters from the comics will have now have been written off the show..

Mikelus: Nice work finding those older quotes. People do tend to forget that. Speaking only for myself, I feel when it comes to the possibility of Laurel being in the grave is the fanbase waited two seasons to see Laurel put serious effort into training and take up the mask, got it in the third season, but also had to deal with Olicity melodrama taking the forefront.

Now, yes, any relationship Oliver has will be involved in his arc, but as evidenced by when he was with Sara, they can do it without the serious amount of unneeded melodramatics. Looking back, we've seen them handle the relationships well enough without the amount of melodrama the current one has had. I don't even think the remnants of Ollie/Laurel circa 2005-2007 in Season 1 had as much of an affect.

For the first two seasons, those relationships were there, but they weren't shoved down our throats. Worse, they all contributed in some way to Oliver's journey while this one has not. If Oliver's words in the promo for the next episode are anything to go by, he's right back where he was before he and Felicity got together, feeling that he needs to use darkness to beat darkness (which I personally agree with, otherwise he could just be a cop if he wanted to use only legal methods, which is what fighting 'with light' would be, IMO).

The only problem with those particular quotes is they come from a time when Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg were heavily involved in Arrow. Nowadays, Kreisberg is showrunner on "The Flash" and Berlanti is developing project after project for CBS. They're involved in key critical moments, so hopefully this counts as one of those. Otherwise, the 'from point A to B' stuff is left to Guggenheim, Mericle, and their team of writers, who've proven that they could care less about pleasing any fanbase except the Olicity one. That's what I'm seeing, even with the 'break up', because the saner Felicity fans actually acknowledge that she should have seen through his BS and ended things before now, and then have them "find their way back after much soul-searching", or some such nonsense.

The problem with those old quotes is that they're two years old, and they were by Kreisberg, who still had a lot of involvement in the show.

At the moment, you have Guggenheim, who has had issues with KC in the past, and Wendy Mericle, who always looks like she's secretly being watched by a murderer whenever she talks about how great Olicity is. So it's very likely that things have changed since they are the ones who call the shots now.

:lmao: it's funny cause it's true.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this viewpoint. :)

Since when? I have never ever heard this.

There were reports back in season 2 that Guggenheim was not a fan of Katie Cassidy, and that the only reason she was on the show was because the CW mandated it. Add to that, I believe Katie was one of the last to find out that Sara was going to be the Black Canary, which was something she was actually looking forward to, and instead got stuck in an arc that made her look bad, and was disliked by fans in favor of the character that basically replaced her intended role.

I don't remember that many people reacting negatively to this kind of thing when it was directed at Laurel.

I do. The only reason the Laurel hate isn't prominent anymore is because Felicity is getting the romance subplots. Back in s2, the virulent hate for Laurel flowed like a river of fire.

Not what he said. Reacting to the hate is what he is talking about. In the should Laurel be killed off thread there was me, Primal Slayer, Mikelus and a few others. Don't remember those claiming woman hating now saying a thing back then.

We're just a bunch of antiquated, patriarchal knuckle-draggers. :o

Whatever. Just ignore it and continue making well thought criticisms.

For the record when I say "Felecity sucks" I mean the character as of the last episode of season two, the way she's been written, and the unwarranted and wasted amount of time and focus dedicated to the character over all others including the protagonist. EBR is probably a cool person and it's not her fault the Arrow showrunners are giving her **** to work with.

Laurel got her fair share of crap writing too. And I've been quick to point that out even if she's my favorite female regular.

So Katie posted a photo yesterday of the Arrow Cave, asking "What's your office look like? ;)"

Now, this could mean a number of things, but the fist conclusion one can make is that she is currently on set.

Now, of course, she could have been told to post a photo to throw people off her trail, or she could have posted an old photo on her phone or something, but it's definitely encouraging to see, even though it's pretty much 99% confirmed to be her in the grave.

There a picture that Katie posted inside of a prison. It probably old or new scene added to Episode 18(pure speculation!).

I don't think so, considering you can see -YTON on the end of the gravestone in one shot.

Arrow was shut down the day she posted it so she wasn't on set.

The funny thing is, it could have been her last day on Arrow for this season without her being in the grave. What if whatever happens puts her in the hospital? Considering that the showrunners only give plot armor to the OTA, I personally wouldn't put it past them to put Laurel in the hospital at the same time someone ends up in the grave. And if she ends up in a coma because of what happened, its unlikely she would be needed on-set for the rest of the season.

Now, can we expect the showrunners to pull something like this? Back during Season 2, I would have said absolutely. Nowadays? Not so sure. But its a possibility, though a slim one.

Do remember, just last season they spent an entire episode making us think Roy was going to die, and then in the last thirty seconds of the episode, Ra's stabbed Thea. So they still do tend to pull twists like that. Just not as often.

*chuckles* I stand corrected.

The Black Canary we have now is a far cry from the Laurel we saw at the beginning of the series and that is a perfect example of character development. Laurel has gone through immense tragedy, battled addiction, gone through the same tragedy again and overcome obstacles that many thought she couldn't. Just as the episode "Canaries" proved, Laurel may indeed have gotten knocked down, but she always gets back up. Laurel Lance thoroughly deserves her place on Arrow as well as "Team Arrow" and I can't wait to see what's next for her.

Reading this piece on Laurel just makes me sadder that we are losing her.

It still bothers me how the character started off as the number two character on the show, in terms of importance, went through a storyline where she hit rock bottom and was able to redeem herself, suffered another tragedy where she emerged as a formidable foe, instead of falling back to bad habits, and where is she now?

She's probably 5th-6th in terms of importance, based on how the show treats her and focuses on her. I was very hopeful for her, and Thea this season, but with the way that Thea has been used primarily as a damsel in distress, as opposed to a a youthful partner in crime, it really doesn't encourage me to believe that they would do any better with Laurel if she's stays alive.

I believe the producer said the death is a prominent character. I don't think Laurel is classify as important/signficant as she neither have story line or a villain of his own.

MG thinks that he has written the character perfectly. The way they think and the way we think are not the same.

The only "prominent" characters are "OTA" and they would not break up that trio for the life of them.

Thea has not been a damsel in distress this season. She has taken out an incredible number of Ghosts and Anarky too.
