Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

Hey, Star Wars Ep.1-3 didn't "need" to take three films, but it did. Sure, they can do it all in one if they wish, but I don't think they will.

Are you seriously using that as a reason that it should be a trilogy?! If anything, it should serve as a cautionary tale and a reason that it shouldn't be stretched out to three films.

I am not saying that why it should be, but rather why it will be. Everyone thinks everything has to be a trilogy these days.

On the other hand, if you are going to the trouble to turn the clock back with these characters, with new actors, etc., why limit it to one movie. At least leave the door open for more, and I think that's what they will do. What's the rush? Over the years in the comics a history of friend ship has been established between Charles and Eric, so that's part one; it starts to go bad in part two, and in three they split for good. All the time, they are fighting villains like Mr. Sinister, maybe the big A, who knows.

The Wolverine solo film is not going to end with one. We are going to get the Japan story, and I bet at least one more after that. Why not the same with the First Class?

I hope this isn't a case of too many cooks in the kitchen. I mean, that's what? 4 different writers? Granted, they are really GOOD writers... but I hope things don't lost in translation.

And I suppose it's nice that Vaughn has his go-to people, and he's bringing them aboard this project.

Both X-Men and X2 had multipe writers working on them at various times so It may not be a bad thing.

It is awesome that Mathew is bringing in writers he is familiar with. However, the film is 13 months away and they are still working on the script?

Who wants to be that he tries to get a month extension and they tell him no?

Ugh. Wake me up when Marvel gets their rights back...

You do know they rewrite scripts on set all the time right? Plus, I think Singer threw out the original script when he came onboard so there are only three(one duo) hands have touched it as far as we know. Sherlock Holmes had like 7.

Rewrites do occur all the time. Did you not read where I said it was awesome that Vaughn is getting people he has worked with to retool the script:huh: But this thing is suppose to come out in less than 13 months and they still haven't even nailed down the script??? My gripes aren't rewrites, my gripes are playing with the script when you are a year from release and haven't even started principal let alone having a cast.

That is why we are worried, that this is going to be another rush job...which all indications are clearly pointing towards.

I read what you said. I was getting at the point that a script is changed all the way through filming. You're, imo, reacting like it's some big deal it's being touched while they are casting and scouting. No. There is no such thing as a locked script before shooting.

Besides, this is Singer's baby. He's not going let Vaughn's people overhaul a large chunk of it.

David hayter was working on the script for X-Men as they were shooting, and Dan harras and Michael doughery were working On X2 as they were shooting. It was during shooting
the setup for Phoenix was added. So consider the process X-Men and X2 went through
makes me more optimistic about this film. Also remember Matthew Vaughn Is directing this because Bryan Singer and he clicked creativly an Singer really wanted him as director
since he can't because of Jack The Giant Killer.

Glad Jane is onboard like I said before as well as having awsome boobs shes a big Marvel fangirl and a good screenwriter who can hopefully iron out any of junk in the script.

Iron Man had rewrites during filming as well.

Singer has had nothing to do with this movie:huh: He didn't write it. He was brought on to direct it and then decided that he has bigger things to do. So, he stayed on as a producer to give advice.

This isn't a problem with a film 2 years away. This is a problem with a film 1 year away. Look at all the problems Spider-Man 4 had. They kept bringing in new writers to retool the script. Raimi responds and says push back the date because I can't make this film in one year. Sony says **** you and scraps it. They would have continued to push onward but they realized they would make more money by starting from scratch. Same goes with X3. They set a release date way before production starts. There are tons of troubles, Vaughn bails, and it gets pushed onward.

Once again, nobody cares that the script is being retooled. Everyone cares that this thing is a year away and they are just now starting to cast.

He's done more than just 'give advice'. He worked with Jamie Moss on the original script, and he worked with Thor writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller on the latest draft. He also stepped in when talks with Vaughn went sour.

He'll be handing some creative input over to Vaughn now he is directing and has hired Jane Goldman, but to say he has had nothing to do with this movie in stupid.

What does this movie have to do with Thor? Singer is not going to be on set all the time. He is doing casting for Jack right now. He will barely visit the set and gladly answer questions they have. He isn't going to be standing behind Vaughn telling him what he is doing wrong. This is Vaughn's movie, not Singer's.

Anyone think the villain may be either:

Sentinels
Apocalypse
Mister Sinister (though I think he would be more behind the scenes)
or Dark Phoenix (Before the mental blocks were put in)

Have you been following this movie at all? The writers of Thor, Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller, have been rewriting the First Class script with input from Singer. This was before the hiring of Vaughn.

Singer is doing casting for Jack the Giant Killer and First Class at the same time. An article last week said he was looking for potential actors and actresses to play Cyclops and Jean as his film requires a young heroic farmer and a princess.

This is Vaughn's movie now, but Singer is still producing, Singer's company is still producing, and Singer will still have a lot of input. It won't just be a case of 'answering questions', especially as Singer will be getting paid by Fox as a producer. He'll be busy with Jack the Giant Killer in July, but he still has a job to do.

So we only know them from Thor? Whenever we post names, we need to clarify what they have worked on in the past because us comic book nerds along with the aid of google, have no idea who these people are.

"Vaughn, director of Stardust, was hired to direct X-Men first class!!!"

Singer isn't casting X-Men first class. He said he would use his Jack casting as another outlet to help cast X-Men first class. If someone walks in that isn't the perfect Jack but is the perfect Bobby Drake, then he will pass along the stuff to Vaughn. It isn't an open casting call for Jack and Bobby. His priorities lie with Jack right now. He isn't focusing all his energy into casting the perfect Iceman.

Singer will have input, but he isn't going to tend to every little detail. He isn't going to be on set every day and be in the editing room finishing up the film. If Vaughn wants to go one way after Singer's recommendations, you can bet that he isn't going to creatively stifle Vaughn to make it the way he wanted it.

Most likely because Iceman won't be in First Class...

That's true. He'll still be fulfilling his producer duties though. He'll have a say in casting. He won't be making the final decision, but as a producer he will be voicing his opinion. Directors and producers collaborate and make decisions together most of the time.

Which is why they just need to reboot the series with this film. Start fresh and then get another trilogy going. This series can't always adhere to Singer's awesome films.

They should have done X4, called it the end, and then rebooted with this.

Do X-Men 4, and then reboot? Why bother? Why not just reboot???

Because they left too much open in X3 and I had hoped for Singer to return to the universe he created to end it properly and on a high note.

Yeah... they are soon to be less than a year away from release and Xavier/Magneto haven't been casted yet. Nuff said... by the time they even settle in it will be September.

Cast, not casted.
Uh, they just signed a director. Casting will happen when it happens.

Yeah, everything is pretty closed after that film.
