I think racism is a constant because such divisions allow the wealthy to maintain support from the white working class.

That's been the strategy since slavery and has since become deeply embedded every generation on the personal level.
If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you.

The United States would be so much better off financially, culturally and socially if the bigoted population would get over their petty prejudices and actually believe in equality.

I understand how and why people want to create divisions.
The fact some people are angry/scared that human beings are diverse and share a location with them is so bizarre. I will never completely understand why people coming in a variety of features is such a hard concept to grasp and an even harder one to accept.
 
10 years ago, Michael Brown was murdered by a country that can't stand anyone who isn't white. His story is still shared by numerous black Americans.
