World News
In the beginning when this outbreak happened, the first City that got hit was New Rochelle which was just a regular community in Northern NJ and they blockaded that town. Then it just got out and we are where we are but that was before social distancing and shutting the State down.

To be perfectly honest, if retail stores were open, I think a lot of people would venture out. I think commercial lockdown is keeping the numbers at bay.

I don't know what the right answer is, but if you have a community that refuses to listen, what is an alternative?

I honestly don't think there is one.

I'm honestly confused why that is being labeled as "racism"?

Maher made the case himself. He named the Spanish flu as originating in Spain. It didn't. It originated potentially in Kansas. By labeling it the Spanish flu, it was an attempt at propaganda. That is clearly what Trump is doing here, and the rise in violence against Asian Americans shows it is sadly working.

That Maher shows no compassion or care for the victims of such reckless actions is a good example of why most see him as problematic at best.

That's an incredible stretch. Calling China a "race", in order to try and stick it to Trump, while totally missing the point of what Bill Maher said is such an incredible leap in logic, I don't even know where to begin? I find it ironic that Maher starts off that clips by saying, "you can't yell at someone for breaking a rule you just made up", which is exactly what a bunch of you are doing.

I mean, if this virus originated in Canada, and Trump was calling it the "CanadianVirus", would you be claiming "racism"? It makes no sense to me.

I would say, if it leads to an uptick in racial violence, then yes, the language is racist. I mean, this isn't exactly the first virus to originate from china, so really "chinese virus" is pretty confusing.

That still makes no sense. Going back to the Canada analogy, if Trump was calling it a "CanadianVirus", and there was an uptick in violence towards Canadians, that still wouldn't be racism.

I think the word some of you are looking for is "xenophobia", which isn't racism.

If the virus originated in Canada do you think violence against people who are considered to look "typically Canadian" would go up?

China isn't a race. That doesn't stop Trump from turning the idea of "looking Chinese" into being a race to his racists followers. This is no different then post 9/11 when bigotry against Muslims rose it also rose against Sikhs because bigots turned wearing a head covering and looking vaguely Middle Eastern into a race. Because they are bigots.

Finally, COVID-19 aka coranavirus are the names used by officials and regular people. Why is it necessary to call it the Chinese virus when we know what comes with it, a rise in racism against Asian Americans? So Trump can try to deflect responsibility for his poor response to the pandemic?

This is one of the worst analogies I've ever heard.

When Asians are being attacked, because stupid racists link them to the coronavirus, because President Trump who has the support and backing of racists repeatedly refered to it as the Chinese virus....then Maher calling it the Chinese virus knowing that this reference has led to the multiple attacks against Asians.....makes him either a racist or a stupid dick.

If it’s so bad, explain in great detail how China is a “race”. I’m not making this ridiculous claim: you are.
I feel like I explained the issue with this in my post above. Whether China is a race or not, does not change the intent or end result.

You are just obsessing over the wrong thing. Yes...everyone knows that Chinese is not a race....but people would get no reaction from others if they shouted "You're being a countryist!!!!" YOU know what people are saying...YOU are just obsessing because the wrong word is being used....even though the word being used conveys exactly what is meant.

Thank you so much....that is exactly the word I couldn't think of for my post.
The people using terms in a erroneous manner can’t even think of the word “semantics”.

It just gets better. :funny:

Why are you avoiding the rise in bigotry Asian people are facing because of this? Why are you ignoring that COVID-19 has not one or two names? Why does anyone need to call it the Chinese virus, especially as it has coincided with the rise in bigotry and violence against Americans?

You know exactly what is meant by everything you’re playing dumb about, as usual.

I love the mind reading....“as usual”. :hehe:

But no, I love how objectively wrong you all are here, and are trying to claim nationality is the same as race. I was born in America, and had no idea my race was American, until I got on the Hype and talked to the “experts“ on ”racism”.

But hey, you guys being hilariously wrong on this, is me “playing dumb”. Keep your freak at 11, “as usual”. :funny:

No...what gets better is the troll acting like a troll. You are not saying I was wrong in what I said about you. You are making fun of me admitting that I could not think of a certain word while trying to convey my thought. That is a trollish move by a troll.
