Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 1

I agree FOX nailed Magneto and I liked Stryker. But, who else have they nailed villain wise? Most of their other villains are no more complex than what Marvel gives us. I don't see this notion of FOX does villains so much better than Marvel as actually being true.

But what I do see is Marvel's track record of Good vs Bad films is better than FOX's. X-Men have several good films, this is true. But, they also have many other examples of trash outside it, and even trash within the X-Men series.

I mean that is fair. But I suppose for me a big thing is the villains have an actual menace, even when they are as disposable as Marvel's. William Stryker's hate was tangible in X2. Before he got admittedly run into the ground by prequels, he just represented the contemptuous privilege and entitlement of establishment that leads to scapegoating. The Sentinels in DOFP, while lacking in any personality, were far more threatening and terrifying than Ultron and his army of bots. Ultron was cracking jokes, the Sentinels slaughtered X-Men and the movie made the audience feel it. There is a look of real terror in Xavier and Kitty's pride at the end, while the Avengers are trading barbs with Ultron. He is even whistling a Disney song after killing Quicksilver.

It is just the difference in presentation. But they are more comparable, you are right. I still, however, doubt Marvel would do Magneto as poignantly as the X-films had done. And it is why I also am doubtful that Doom will be everything fans are hoping, but he will definitely be better than either Fox version too.

But I guess I'm trolling to point out that the wreckage should be Fox Searchlight and smaller movies like Shape of Water and Three Billboards which Disney is about to bulldoze over.

That's actually an important discussion to have, just not sure what Marvel f-ing up villians they haven't even done yet has anything to do with it...

More just the image of Disney conquering another studio. Just pointing out that is a lot more than comic films that are getting slaughtered like Vision there that fans are high-fiving. ;)

Burn it to the ground, let Reynolds rise from the ashes and let's do this thing.

I'm also SCREAMING at a discussion on the X-boards that Disney buying Fox doesn't guarantee X-Men in the MCU.

Denial is part of the process, just sit back and watch them as this unfolds, we're gonna be talking about these next couple of weeks for years.

Let's look at the positive, there will likely be a lot of sexual predators without jobs.

My argument to this would be within the MCU, largely the MCU has no used villains who have a comics history rich like either Doom or Magneto. When building a great villain, it helps if they have great stories. Name me 1 Ronan story as good as an 10 Magneto ones from comics. I could keep doing that as FOX has held the rights to many of Marvel's top 10 villains, and Sony has several other ones via the Spidey rights. We shall see what they do with Thanos in Avengers 3 and 4, but I think making a great Doom or Magneto is easier than 90% of the characters they used as villains so far. In short, the better the foundation, the stronger your eventual house will be.

That is so long as you don't go so far off the deep end like FOX did in Fan4stic. *Shivers*

Just gotta let them grieve. Whoever thinks that knows just how ridiculous it sounds.

Haha, no one likes that movie... I don't think.

But I don't know if comic book depth is that much of an excuse. Bane was always a B-lister, and Nolan turned him into an A-lister with one amazing take on the character. I will even give Marvel Studios credit on this. Who cared about Vulture? They did an excellent job with Vulture, and made him much better than he was in the comics. If they had built it up more, he could have been something truly special.

I think it is all about execution. And until 2017 or so, I don't think Marvel has cared about execution. That might have changed, but I am still somewhat dubious. While Hela was played wonderfully by a vampy Cate Blanchett, she still didn't do a whole lot. She was not as important to the film as Hulk and Thor having adventures on that Star Wars like planet. So she still felt perfunctory. I have concerns that Thanos could go the same way.

I didn't think Homecoming had any ring to it either but it ended up working...

The film did but the name is still a bit embarrassing. ;)

You forgot Fant4stic at 95%. :o

I don't think anyone here is arguing about Fan4stic? And in general, speaking for myself, who some are calling a troll, it is more about what Fox has started doing with the X-Men brand in the last few years.

I remember back before the Sony marvel deal we’d hear things like:

“It’ll never happen.”

Then the Sony leaks came and it turned into:

“Well if it does, it’ll be Andrew’s spider-man”

Deal is announced, hard reboot

“Oh well they can still make the sinister six film with Andrew in it, it just won’t be MCU related”

See? People will say anything when something they don’t want happens. Just how it is.

I promised myself that if Marvel Ever got the F4 rights, I would go out and buy Fan4stic and a six pack of good beer, and that weekend watch it for the first time with some fans in a MST3K type of manner.

For what its worth, I actually like the cast of young Xmen that X: Apocalypse built up and thought that cast had huge potential. I'd like to hopefully get some closure on them in Dark Phoenix before this all gets rebooted.

Apocalypse was a bird splatter on my windshield. Awful awful movie and embarrassment to one of Marvels great villains.

I think dark Phoenix will be a unique opportunity considering how the franchise has gone. If the timelines continue the way they have, this x-men film will take place in the 90’s, just a few years before the events of the first film in 2000. It seems like a cool place to leave off.

The most recent X-Men film was not only the worst rated X-Men film, but it was FAR lower than ANY of Marvel's films.

And the guy who is writing and directing the current X-Men film ...

... is the guy who was largely responsible for Fant4stic.

If I were an X-Men fan, I'd be thrilled at the idea of Marvel getting them at this moment in particular.

Looks like you'll be watching Fant4stic soon. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Do yourself a favor and just buy the beer.

I have consulted with the SHH elders and they have decided that you shouldn't be subjected to that kind of punishment. Just grab the drinks.

Sounds like that ritual won't be that away.

Your 6 pack of beer won't make it 15 minutes. Better grab a case.

No. Let him sit through Fant4stic like the rest of us.

He should just pretend he's a FFINO defender for a day and watch it 10 times. :o
