Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 1

Wiping out a number of characters we've gotten to know over multiple films was Marvel Studios performing "spring cleaning". But FOX wiping out poorly costumed mutants we've never met and a few fan favorites (that we all know are going to be walked back before the credits roll) is that studio "turning the heat up"?

If you are referring to what they did to the supporting players in FC in DOFP off-screen? I agree. The same "spring cleaning." But if you are comparing it to the end of DOFP, then I disagree. Because honestly, even without any lines, those mutants were just as developed as the Warriors Three (sadly even Storm, heh), and each one had a death felt a drawn out bigoted murder. Iceman being roasted, Storm being skewered, Blink's and Colossus' were especially cruel. And it is the extermination of a minority, with presumably only Kitty, crippled old Xavier, and wounded Magneto left cowering in the dark.

Whereas two-thirds of the Warriors Three were killed in a few seconds and then it turned into a joke with the Executioner guy pledging loyalty. The other one got a more noble death but... the whole scene just felt brisk and like it was table setting. Yeah, there was a difference.

It's because they are entirely different tones and styles of film making.

I hope we do get Doom as the big bad for Phase 4. I know most have said Galactus, but this guy really deserves his due. Besides Feige has already said that the next phase will be smaller in terms of team ups, although there will be more focus on the cosmic side. He could always team up with other villains down the road, but I'd like to see him become gradually built up over different movies outside the FF related ones.

Galactus doesn't need to be the front and center baddie in any film. He and his herald are serviceable as plot device, cameo, and/or exposition.

Galactus is like Ego. Not good or bad completely.

Save him for maybe Marvel's interpretation to a Jonathan Hickman's story.

This is going to cause other studios to start selling as well.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon or Google buy Sony and Paramount in the near future.

Crazy that the next big film studios will probably be Disney, WB, Netflix, and Amazon Studios.

Apparently the deal would include Fox's regional sports networks (RSNs), that's why the price is so much higher than before.

That's worth more than Star, Sky, or 30% of Hulu

So Disney is looking to gain control of broadcasting rights held by Fox and its regional sports network. Consolidating it all under ESPN. This could be a good thing to help force the issue with the modernization of this business model.

and Universal.

I had a different response. I found the death of the Warriors Three to be shocking, while the DOFP deaths were anticipated as soon as the flick was announced. I'm not a big fan of decapitation and evisceration presented for entertainment, so I didn't get as much out of the scene as you did.

Technically those DOFP deaths weren't permanent since the reset button was pressed. It was only a question of if the heroes succeeded in the past. All those characters happily returned alive and well. As for the Warriors Three.................

I think it would be very hard to argue that audiences had any kind of connection to the Warriors Three, and the way they died didn't change that.

Death is meaningless in the Fox-Men universe. It isn't permanent, has no lasting emotional impact and usually involves unnamed/underdeveloped characters. Why should the audience get emotionally involved when most of the characters in the franchise have never been fleshed out enough to be viewed as human beings rather than mere ciphers?

I mean they killed Xavier and brought him back without any explanation. Not to mention, that epilogue for The Wolverine felt like it skipped a whole movie before Days of Future Past.

And apparently neither did Thor, since he clearly forgot they even existed.

Look at how happy they were when they finally found him in the first movie... little did the poor fools know that their "friend" valued his hammer more than their lives.

Even though they glossed over it they actually brought him back when the Last Stand ended.

So he got his old body back that looks exactly the same, same voice, same paralysis? They ignored that epilogue too.

Didn't say it made sense. Maybe his twin brother was paraplegic too. Who knows?

But they did show how he came back. Dumb as it was...........

I'm confused, that man was his biological twin? I recall that man was diagnosed as being brain dead, not paraplegic. IF that's the case, why did he wait that long to contact Wolverine?

they didnt explain anything. It was implied in TLS, that he transferred his mind but there was no explanation for how that happened nor who said patient was.
