Nice. I really can't wait to see this film. The success of these animated films makes me wonder why Marvel hasn't collaborated with Pixar yet. Imagine a Hulk movie by Pixar? That would be incredible! :hubba

Well, we are getting Big Hero 6. Not Pixar, but it is from Disney Animation.

I hope they've got her hair color correct at the parks by now. :wow:

Nope, it's still white. I guess Disney just doesn't have the money for new wigs!

but the fact that the park actresses had white hair lends credence to my belief that Elsa's hair was intended to be white until fairly late in the process.
Maybe in the design process, but they wouldn't change it too long after animation started because then they'd have to go back and rework every single scene she was in. Considering that it takes years to do an animated movie, you'd think that would be plenty of time for Disney to correct the color in the books and theme park wigs. In the book 'A Sister More Like Me', Elsa's hair is white in some drawings and platinum blonde in others. It's pretty sloppy for a company as strict as Disney.

It bugs me, because we're not talking about cosplayers who have to make do with what they can find. It's freaking Disney, who ought to know what Elsa's hair color is and ought to be able to afford to get the right color wigs.

That would be awesome! Hopefully Marvel decide to amp up their animated output in the next few years.

yeah......that's just.........odd.

More phenomenal numbers from Japan
Today's massive increase is partly due to this being a discount day that comes once a month where tickets are discounted for everyone, Wednesdays are all Ladies Day where tickets are discounted for women.
Even with the discount, more than doubling last Tuesday, and that Tuesday was already up 56% from its first Tuesday. It's still early, but it sure looks like Frozen's 3rd week will increase yet again from from its first 2 weeks.
Here's an interesting little factoid, no movie that ever opened over 5 million (2 day weekend) in Japan has ever increased its 2nd weekend, but Frozen increased its 2nd and 3rd weekend.

TOHO KINEZO 109

Last Tues - 33,679 - 4,876 - 7,470
Today - 69,958 - 12,837 - 15,444
Change - +108% - + 163% - +107%

Wow, looks like Frozen may become the highest-grossing movie in Japan if this continues, right?

I really don't understand how they expect to release that movie this year. They haven't even announced a full voice cast.

There are a few movies where the total is so high it's hard to imagine them ever being passed. Interestingly, many of them are animated movies.

Top grossing animated movies

#1 - Spirited Away (2001) - 244m (This is the #1 movie of all time in Japan)
#2 - Howl's Moving Castle (2004) - 207m
#3 - Princess Mononoke (1997) - 165.5m
#4 - Ponyo (2008) - 156m
#5 - Toy Story 3 (2010) -130m

Frozen was about 7 million ahead of Toy Story 3 by the end of their 3rd weekends, with Frozen outpacing TS3 early this week too, so if Frozen can keep padding its lead it could end up in the top 5 animated movies and maybe close to top 10 (Ponyo is currently #9 overall)

They must have been going a totally different direction at one point...that scene doesn't gel with what we ended up with at all....

We also have the deleted scene that was supposed to come right after (Anna mentions pig and pies in it).
What's weird is that not only do those scenes not fit how the finished product turned out, they also don't fit the tone of the early "Elsa as a villain" direction that was originally planned. It's almost like they were going in a third completely different direction.

The scene that follows the "pig" scene is here...

Exactly.....it almost looks like the scraped the first plan and went for something else. Thank goodness, I'm not in to those deleted scenes.

Frozen passes 60 million in Japan with another big day today.

Do we know if they are doing Sing-a-long versions WW?

Another deleted scene, Anna chases a pig

wonder if the pig would have been a sidekick character.....lol

I did like the last shot where she's just sinking in the water........

but, yeah, it wouldn't have fit with the tone of the character that we ultimately got.

We probably won't know until late in its run, and popular movies often play 12 weeks or more, but I'd say the chances are decent given that Japan invented karaoke. :woot: For other countries, they had it in Italy, South Korea, the U.K. and 1 or 2 others, but I doubt any more countries will get it now.

it looks like we only have $1.5M to go!!!

You can do it Elsa and Anna!!

I keep saying Japan is going bonkers for Frozen, but it just keeps putting up surprising numbers. Starting on Tuesday Japan had it's first ticket price increase since the early 90's, 100 Yen (roughly $1) or about 8%, some people thought that might keep people from going to the movies, and many movies are showing a decrease, but not Frozen. Tuesday and Thursday both had increases in admissions from last week, and at higher ticket prices, Wednesday was down a bit, but early Friday numbers are showing another increase.
When Frozen opened in Japan I mentioned it's a leggy market where good movies often can make 10x their opening weekend, but Frozen will be very close to that after just its 4th weekend. Fewer than 10 movies in the last 15 years have made 15x their opening weekend, that's all but locked now (that would be roughly 113 million) and now 20x is in play. The highest multiplier mentioned was Eternal Zero which did 24x its opening weekend, if Frozen could do that kind of multiplier it would be around 183 million.
Frozen has done exceptional business in many countries, but these continual increases from Japan just defy belief. Spring Break ends this week, so weekday numbers will finally drop, but Frozen probably still has another 8-10 weeks left to play there.

It's amazing how much the Japanese moviegoers embraced Frozen. Since it's a country that is known for their anime and toys, I wonder if Frozen has permeated their culture as well, and we may see some exclusive Frozen merchandises and fan arts from Japan?
