Disney's Frozen - Part 3

Not open for further replies.
Between the successes of Frozen, The Hunger Games, Twilight I don't think Hollywood sees this as a fluke. Those are the reasons that we're getting movies for the Divergent series, and The Fault in Our Stars, and probably other things I have not heard of.

They will probably try and make a few more female-led movies. They might not know how though. The majority of box office success is marketing, and they're not sure how to market to girls. Notice that four of the examples listed are young adult adaptations, which makes for a specific and now well-defined marketing strategy.

In the case of Frozen, it's been publicly that Disney had absolutely no idea that the movie would be so successful, and was caught completely off guard. I think the minimum they could do is give those involved additional employment.

As of now, unfortunately, Sony is expanding the Spider Man universe such that every single character will get a spinoff movie except for Black Cat.

I' hopeful that I'll see a (good) Sailor Moon movie one day.

12th weekend estimates are up, it appears Frozen is between 8m and 8.5m.

Using the low end, here's the top 12th weekends from Japan.

¥812.0 million (+16%) / ¥21.30 billion -> ¥??.?? billion - Frozen (2014) *Estimate*
¥395.0 million (-09%) / ¥24.40 billion -> ¥30.40 billion - Spirited Away (2001)
¥255.1 million (-18%) / ¥13.82 billion -> ¥15.60 billion - Avatar (2009)
¥188.5 million (-25%) / ¥17.23 billion -> ¥19.60 billion - Howl's Moving Castle (2004)
¥177.8 million (-45%) / ¥19.29 billion -> ¥20.30 billion - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)

Whatever the total number of records Frozen sets in Japan I think that 12th weekend record might be the hardest to break. More than doubling the old record and tripling Avatar. That 12th weekend number would be a record for any weekend from 7th onward.

We finally have some numbers for Frozens Blue Ray sales. For some reason sales numbers are always about 3 months behind. This list only includes sales up to March 23.
Frozen has the highest first week of sales, ever. With just 6 days in sales on this list Frozen was already #4 all time in sales. There is little doubt Frozen will be #1 when the list has future updates (they update weekly, but always nearly 3 months behind).
Frozen was #1 in sales for 7 of its first 8 weeks and needed just 3 million in sales after its first week to overtake Avatar for #1 all time Blue Ray sales.

All time Blue Ray sales list up to March 23 2014:

When do you guys think we will find out who's playing Elsa in "Once Upon A Time"?

It probably won't be too long. They just announced Elsa will be in 9 episodes and that Anna and Kristoff will also appear, but in fewer episodes.

ERC is reporting 5.8m 13th weekend in Japan. #1 by a wide margin and a record for a 13th weekend in Japan.

Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice Yup, FROZEN is #1 again for the 13th consecutive weekend in Japan w/ $5.8M ($218M total). Worldwide cume is $1.245 billion.

I think Frozen will probably have #1 blu ray sales of all time once Disney finally release the 3D edition, hopefully later this year.

I'd bet anything Frozen already has the Blue Ray record. Remember, that nearly 4 million units sold is only for the first 6 days of sales. Frozen was #1 in sales for 7 other weeks and #2 for the rest of the weeks since it was released.

The sales list is always about 10 weeks behind, we think because it takes that long to compile the totals from so many different sources. When the new numbers come out that will only be up to March 30th, Frozen's 2nd week of release. We won't know the current total for another 10 weeks, and by then it will still be 10 weeks behind, but so are all the other movies.

I thought they did DVD sales like they do CD sales, its not how many each store sold, it is how many units each store receives...why would that take so long, that is a pretty easy number to get. I guess they can't do that if they are wanting a weekly tally.

Just wondering, who would you guys and gals cast as live action versions of Elsa and Anna?

Never seen this movie till I bought the blu ray last week for $15. This was one of the best movies I have ever ****ing seen.

Am I the only one who finds the Olaf bobblehead slightly creepy?

We finally know why the Blue Ray/DVD release is coming so early in Japan.

Yesterday the news report has explained why Disney decided to release Frozen BD/DVD so early, which came as a surprise to many people.
Disney is aiming at breaking the BD/DVD selling record in Japan; the NO.1 is Spirited Away (4m pieces ), no2 is princess monokoko
(1.32 m). Disney hopes the sales can reach 5m pieces ! (each movienex is around 4000 Yen.)
As long as the BD is released in mid July, the two famous Japanese singers will begin to perform on TV, singing songs like
for the first time in forever and Let it GO, which is very likely to boost the movienex sales.
The insiders say if the sale Frozen break 500 pieces, these two female singers will get 100m Yen as the bonus
(the total gross will be over 20b Yen...)
This is where Walt Disney ambition begins....

I still think it wouldn't have affected disc sales at all if the Blue Ray/DVD release came a month later, but would hugely increased the chances of Frozen beating Spirited Away in admissions and Yen, and being the all time #1 movie in Japan in all categories would have been a huge additional selling point for disc sales.

I'd love to check out the Japanese singers who are singing Frozen songs on TV, to see how they perform and it may explain why the movie is such a phenomenon in Japan.

The singer who did Elsa is May J. (one of the most famous Japanese singers there is) and this is the Japanese version of Let It Go

The Japanese Anna is Umarete Hajimete and here's For The First Time In Forever (weird seeing the translation to English).

Not a big fan of CinemaSins, i know they're just joking around, but i think they nit pick way too much, honest trailer's not much smarter, but i see more of a point for their videos.

May J. did the pop version of Let It Go in Japan, the singer who played Elsa in the movie is Matsu Takako and Kanda Sayaka played Anna. (Umarete Hajimete is the Japanese title of For The First Time in Forever.)

I think Frozen became so huge in Japan not just from the overseas hype and its Oscar wins but because of the quality of the dub and the dubbed songs. (Most of the tickets sold were for the dubbed version.) Matsu Takako and Kanda Sayaka were both celebrity actresses and singers in Japan before Frozen, but they also have experience with acting in stage musicals, same with the other voice actors Disney picked for the Japanese dub (and the original English version too XD). They didn't just choose random celebrities that don't fit the roles.

That and Disney promoted it really well, they put the Japanese version of Let It Go up on YouTube a couple months before the movie opened in Japan and that built buzz, the directors and producer came over there to promote it on TV, and also their posters and trailers >>>>>>>>> the US ones. (And the Japanese title is not Frozen but Anna and the Snow Queen...)

This is the most overrated Disney movie to come out in recent years in my opinion. I didn't find the story to be particularly strong and it really didn't do anything other Disney movies haven't already done (sometimes better). Oloaf is the only character I really thought was funny or memorable out of the entire movie. Ana and Elsa were just meh/ okay. But I honestly see why this is a hit with girls and the songs are kinda catchy, two female leads etc. I would give this movie a 7.5/10.

Her name is Anna Faith and I think she's the best Elsa cosplayer I've seen on the net.

Frozen will cruise to its 14th straight weekend at #1 with another record breaking weekend (biggest 14th weekend ever). That makes 7 straight weekends that Frozen has broke the old record for highest weekend, every weekend from the 8th on.
Saturday is looking like 2-2.1m for a weekend around 4.4, a drop of over 20% from last weekend. A bigger drop than we have been used to from Frozen, but great for just about any other movie.
Noah put up a surprisingly strong Saturday, almost 80% of Frozen's admissions, but no real threat to the weekend.
