Disney's Frozen - Part 3

Nobody can say Disney doesn't find ways to squeeze every penny from their successes. Their latest creation, Frozen themed drinks at Tokyo Disney Resort:

The "Anna" looks tasty.

y'know.....I always thought a Frozen/Dairy Queen promotion would have been a no brainer.

Anyone make any fan art of Georgina Haig as Elsa yet?

Arendelle announces their 1st ever Summer Splish Splash extravaganza ( totally Anna's idea ). with special guests Sub-Zero and Queen Elsa herself.

Upon entertaining the thought of seeing Elsa in a skimpy bikini, male tourism to Arendelle skyrockets 2000 %!!

I think Georgina Haig going too be a good Elsa, but I think Brittany Snow would have been perfect for Elsa. She looks more like the character imo, and she's a really good actress.

I don't think looking like the character is much of a criteria on OUaT. I don't think any of the actors look much like their Disney counterparts, except maybe the actress who plays Snow White.

They've just started filming, so it's possible that it might be a comic con-timed reveal. If not, probably some time in August or so.

I know I said this in this topic before but I honestly can't understand why this movie is like this big pop culture phenomon. I rented the movie from Redbox a month or two ago and thought it was simply decent/ okay at best. People were telling me that it was the best disney movie in years and was better than Toy Story series, Lion King, Up, The Incredibles, etc. ( which it's not in my book).

There are so many other Disney and Pixar movies that blow this out of the water IMO and actually deserve the level of praise this movie gets but doesn't. I just assume this movie popular due to the movies female leads and the soundtrack ( which I also didn't think it was so great). The story is super cliche and lacks memorable scenes or a compelling villian. It's largely forgettable and Olaf the snowman is the only character I actually liked. Anna and Elsa were okay but weren't as memorable as other disney characters.

Maybe it's just me, but I just can't wrap my head around this movie and it's massive hype/ fan obsession.

In Japan Frozen is available for video on demand and the Blue Ray just got released (and it's still in theaters too).
It's clear Japan really loves Frozen.

Frozen crushed the all time Blue Ray sales record in its first day of release:wow:

All time Blu-ray sales in Japan
Frozen - 661k units (1 day)
Evangelion 2.22 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE - 465k (2010)
Evangelion 3.0 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO - 403k(2013)
Michael Jackson's This is it - 358k (2010)
Pirates of the Caribbean IV - 245k(2011)

For video on demand the numbers are equally insane, also smashing records:

Google Play reported that Frozen had 17 times more as many views as Monsters University, thus setting an all-time record for the service. Amazon Instant Video, Tsutaya TV and Rakuten ShowTime also reported that the movie shattered all-time records. In four days, Frozen topped the number of downloads Toy Story 3 garnered in one year."

I loved it. Ironically, the only part of the film I hated was Olaf (I found him more annoying than JarJar Binks, and when he changed the tone of the movie too much through his mostly unfunny attempts at comedic relief it was very jarring). Anyway I'm a grown-ass man not prone to sappy Disney movies, but this film was as good, if not better than Pixar at its peak. In fact, Pixar could take a few notes, because boy, have they gone downhill the last few years.

I'm so confused. What's going on here (and the Sub-Zero post below this one)? What the hell was this?

('Never trust a fart'? What the….?)

She looks like she's having quite a lot of trouble moving around in that costume. The cape seems heavy and awkward.

I'm surprised they're hewing so closely to the character's appearance in the movie, they've never done that with any of the other OUaT characters.

Can someone explain to me what this live action series is about? Is it just like modern tellings of fairytales?

I do wonder why they did some of the changes in other characters, i mean, Maleficent looks nothing like Maleficent, it gets a little depressing when they start picking favorites.

Season 1's backstory:

There once was an enchanted forest in a parallel dimension where a lot of people that we consider fairy tale characters exist for real. The evil queen (from Snow White) cast a spell on the town to transport it to another dimension (our world) where it became the small American east coast town of Storybrooke -- it looks like New England. This spell put them in a world without magic, where nobody had their memories of who they were originally, and where the characters could not have happy endings (the purpose of the curse). A 9 year old boy, immune and determined to break the curse, fetches help.

Characters that show up in significant roles include snow white, prince charming, their daughter (Emma), Rumpelstiltskin, Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, The wicked witch of the west, Malificent, the dwarfs, Belle, little red riding hood. A lot of other characters show up as well in minor roles. Frankenstein and the little mermaid have shown up.

The show is very cheesy, girly, and popular in the USA. It has character arcs and decent drama but in my opinion it primarily succeeds as an indulgence into well-made Disney cosplay and professional-quality fan fiction.

They retell the fairy tales with some spin.

The show is owned by Disney. There have been references to Star Wars, but as far as I know there have been no references to Marvel.
