Do you know of any fanboys/geeks who are racist?

Overall, the nerds and geeks I've known have generally been among the most tolerant and open-minded people I've known. I can't think of a single one who I'd call a bigot.

It's not so much that we're not tolerant or not open-minded, but a lot of us are just *******s. We are, honestly.

Many are intolerant and close minded, though. And it doesn't even have to be taken to the extreme of racism. I know guys who won't read a book if it's not Marvel. Or not DC. There are those who won't read Marvel or DC.

A month or so ago I'm at my shop and another guy sees a book I put on the countertop but he doesn't know whose it is. He grabs it and is like "Who the @#$% is buying Mystery Society?!!?" all incredulously. I mean this mofo sounded like he was offended lol. He'd never even heard of the book before, so of course it must suck

Heh heh. I almost started clapping at the part about some of these readers who don't even realize their racist leanings and being "hyper rational". I can't count the number of times I've read people on various boards try to go into some (psuedo)scientific breakdown during these discussions.

On the number of active black heroes: "Well, blacks are only 12% of the population, so they should only be 12% of the superhero population as well"

When those black/asian/etc. Kryptonians showed up: "Well there really isn't any reason to believe that Krypton would have the environmental conditions necessary to create the different ethnicities..." (a version of this same argument was used for Atlanteans concerning Aqualad when he first showed up)

Hell, I actually had a dude over on CBR try to insinuate I was a racist for saying an all black hero team is just as okay as an all white hero team. This same person also went on to say that an all black team of villains would be okay though.

Can black people be racist? I though we were immune from it. :oldrazz:

Notice what McDuffie says about fanboy's and their throats, and then notice the sig I've been rocking for about two weeks.:awesome:

I know CBR is something of a hotbed for racism debates, so I'm not shocked that someone would think something so dumb as Kryptonians having different races besides white. On the flip side there are some guys on there who cry too much about racism. Those Hudlin debates are just insanely sensitive and race mongering. *shudders*

But then again, the X-boards there seem to take the cake on everything. That place sometimes is like Klan central.

Fanboys can be crazy. They say that an all white team isn't racist and they'll fight you to the death about it. However, an all African American team is racist and "pandering to the pc police".

Thank goodness God invented kitties as an antidote for internet forums :awesome:

don't complain about "hyper rationality," be more rational. something like fiction relies on coincidence and serendipity so much that statistics don't strictly apply, and even if they did improbable events happen as often as they are ment to, but this can be far sooner or later than you'd expect.

In layman's terms, it's only racist when it's happening to my people.

I lol'd when this black guy told me black people can't be racist because of slavery and the discrimination they faced throughout the years.

Wow, so by that logic, the Jews should be able to just beat people in the streets for no reason.

I had a history teacher in high school who said the same thing. I didn't agree with her, but I didn't want to be "that kid" who argues with teachers. She basically said that in order to be racist, one had to believe their race was superior to another's, but black people can't be racist because society was given us all an inherent inferiority complex.

But that's okay, since the Jews have been persecuted since the beginning of time.
