I haven't watched any of the Spider-Man movies in a dog's age. I got a HD TV back in October, and I'm ashamed to say until last night I had not watched any Spidey movies on it yet. So last night I popped in Spider-Man 2, and it looked just beautiful. They really need to bring it out on Blu-Ray. I want to see Doc Ock in Blu-Ray quality. Seriously.
The movie itself is still a joy. Watching Peter Parker's struggles in this is fab. From losing his jobs, to falling out with MJ and Harry, to missing the last canape on the tray. It's vintage Spider-Man stuff.
And then we have the one and only Doctor Octopus, played superbly by Alfred Molina. It's hard to pick a scene with him that I love the most. He's so brilliant in all of them. A total scene stealer. I love the Jurassic Park effect they gave him when you know he's coming. Like at Harry's mansion, or at the cafe. When the ground and walls shake, like the drums of impending doom.
I do think his classiest moment is on the train, when the passengers try to protect Spidey from him. It's like deja vu from SM-1, when the citizens on the bridge save Spidey from Goblin by tossing stuff at him. But here the tables are turned:
Ock: "He's mine!!!"
Passengers: "You want to get to him, you gotta go through us"
Ock: *Smiles* Very well"
*MASSIVE PWNAGE*
The essence of badass right there.
