World Doc Ock's Lair v2

And as for Ock, I'd lose that horrible raincoat outfit and suckered tentacles that Ramos designed. I'd put Ock in a slight variation of his classic green and orange costume by adding a scientists lab coat.

I sort of like that he's sick. It adds urgency to everything he does. Lets face it, as a wanted criminal, he probably have the funds or access to have safety equipment for his experiments for all these years. Eventually he was going to get sick or hurt. Getting punched in the head by super humans really didnt help either.

It might work for a while, but how long would it be before it became ridiculous. After a while it would be like, 'Shouldn't this guy be dead by now?'. I say just cure him now and get it over with.

Oh, and giving him back his adamantium tentacles would be a step in the right direction as well.

Not right away, let the story run its course naturally. It shouldnt be drawn out but I dont want it cut short either. I'm indifferent to the adamantium tentacles.

In the hands of a good writer, Ottos' illness and his quest for a cure could lead to some excellent character development.

Too bad we're stuck with Dan Slott.

Who says Dan Slott's going to handle all future Ock stories regarding his illness?

Slott isn't bad, but he isn't very good either. It could be worse, could be Mark Millar.

I would personally like to have the adamantium back, its got pwning capabilities over whatever he is currently using >.>

On USM, I think Bendis had a pretty good take on Ock, but he ruined it during the Ultimate Clone Saga by turning Ock into a cheap imitation of Magneto.

And the best way to make Doctor Octopus a 'Doctor Doom level threat' is to give him back the super-powerful admantium tentacles. Throw in the extremely strong Stunner as his lover/bodyguard and you've got a winning combination of epic badassitude.

Power-wise, yes. Mentality-wise, the Clone Saga brought Otto to a whole new level of threat and meanness toward Peter. I don't know of anyone who messed up so much with Peter's life in USM :woot: Having him with small-scale magnetic power is just a minor set-back in my opinion, especially when the tentacles look so good after it. Although it's too bad we lost all the sexual metaphores of his previous tentacles... I swear, the shape of the one with the tazer function was absolutely suspicious :wow:

Can someone tell me why adamantium tentacles would make Doc Ock so much powerful? I mean, they're indestructible, but this doesn't strike as so much of an improvement it the Doc is still as vulnerable as usual... What makes such a threat on a global scale is his intellect, not his tentacles!

Can't wait to see him back, too. Out of the Big Three, he is the only one still alive and the craziest. I wonder if Lafuente can make him as menacing as he can make Mysterio... this artist's style is a little bit childish with the normal cast, but with villains, he is great!

I've always found Dan Slott to be a great writer, honestly. I mean, his work on Avengers was great, and if you ask me, he's done one hell of a great job on Spidey.

Sure he was, until he became a second-rate Magneto :oldrazz:

Besides, I never cared for the look and body type he was given in the Ultimate continuity. A scientist does not generally have the time to go to the gym that often.

I'm a psychology major, there are always sexual metaphors in my unconscious mind when I contemplate Otto's tentacles (lol)

Because Ocks' adamantium arms are orders of magnitude more powerful than his original titanium steel alloy arms. Using his adamantium tentacles, Ock was able to humiliate the Hulk with one of the most brutal ass-whippings in comics history, and take on Spider Man, Nova, the Fantastic Four and Deathlok by himself.
Sure, his sinister, scheming mind makes him deadly, but add to that the truly awesome power of the adamantium arms and Doctor Octopus joins the ranks of Doctor Doom and Magneto on the A-List of Marvel villainy.

But a first-class tentacles user :woot: And since when does Otto have a mutant supremacy agenda???

This.

One little mishap does not make him a bad writer. And besides, I quite liked the controlling metal thing in the Clone Saga. At least he only uses it to make new tentacles for himself.

Have you forgotten that he also used them to beat up Norman Osborn?

I love his "Norman! Now stop that" remark when Norman fights back.

Just to clarify, I never said Bendis was a bad writier. I just didn't like the 'controlling metal' thing replacing controlling the tentacles. And that fight with Osborn was cool. Now if we could just get their 616 counterparts to throw down...

Agreed, 110%, Don Yoyo. Very well said. :otto::applaud:up:

Oh I know. I was responding to MP's suggestion that Bendis goes under the heading of one of the poorer writers to write Doc Ock.

Honestly, the only writer, aside from Stan Lee, to write such a high quality string of Ock stories is Bendis. I'd love to see him tackle a 616 Doc Ock story.

Have you ever read the Owl/Octopus War arc in Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man? I think it was written by Bill Mantlo. It features Ock at his malevolent best.

And Erik Larsen had a pretty good take on Otto was well, he gave us the Armani suits, after all.
