World Doc Ock's lair

I went to Batman On Film for Batman, but I came to SHH for Spider-man 2, then Venom news a little while later. I was Sorely disappointed in Venom. Then I stayed for the colourful cast of characters.

Hubby bought me a present today -- a little painted-lead Ock figure; he looks like he does in that arc with the photographer, Haight.

So while most of my Ock-lection is tucked away in storage still (:csad:), I seem to be growing another one...

Ditto!

My join date to this place is the day the first Spider-Man 2 trailer went on-line. What a magical day that was.

Awesome, Haz. I have that little Ock figurine, too. And the magazine is great, too. Filled with many Ock facts, his history, and some neat pics, too. I have a few characters from that magazine series. DC is doing one, too.

That statue's got weird teeth. Looks cool, though.

That's not a statue, Wabbit. They're called muggs. They're like soft toys.

Great stuff!

Doc Ock's making his long-awaited return in Amazing Spider-Man #600.

NRAMA: Fair enough. Finally then, this coming week is #585 - 15 issues from #600. With the way you guys do issues, that's three months. Any word on the early plans for the celebration?

TB: It’ll be a massive, larger-than-normal sized issue, hopefully the very embodiment of what an Anniversary Issue should be—and it’ll signal the return to prominence of Spidey’s other master arch-foe Doc-- –ACK---gurgle—flrk

Hey, Wacker back again. I just killed Tom. He talks too much

Yeah, that was a pleasant surprise; I thought it was just a backdrop or something.

The latter half of this week's turning out good for me, Ock-wise. Tonight, after months, I finally kicked the rust off my OckRP!

My favorite bit from it:

Angelica happens to catch a glance of Otto, her face starting to register recognition, just as she's pushed back by Beatrix. She spins around, glaring at the girl. "Screw your advice, kid. And don't stand in my way next time. Got it? Good."

"Peons," Octavius growls under his breath and abruptly stops dead, forcing the flow of humanity to move around him. Brow furrowed over his sunglasses, he glares about himself, his eye lingering briefly on Angelica in almost-recognition before moving onward. "Worms." One of the tentacles opens its claws and snaps them shut with a metallic >shink!<. "Ants."

Beatrix lets out a small chuckle at the response. "Kid? Well, well, isn't that the bratty ass pot calling the kettle black. And trust me, if there's a next time, I'll skip right past advice and it definitely won't be just a bump. You got /that/?" Her face begins to set into a more threatening expression but that rather out-of-the-ordinary >shink!< sound of the claw causes her to look around. "That sounded like..."

<OOC> Beatrix says, "It's like the water trembling in jurassic park. You can't help but just pause when you notice XD"
Ahhh, it felt good. :)

WOW!!!!

Ock's making his comeback in the 600th issue. And it's a double sized issue, too. They really are rolling out the red carpet for the tentacled one's big return. I am so pleased. I just hope the story is good.

I just love how he says "it's the return to prominence of Spidey's other master arch-foe". Excellent. It's all sounding good, my Ocklings. Fingers crossed that it is :otto:

Thanks for that, Web-Head. First time I've looked forward to a 616 Spider-Man comic in over 2 years.

HA! That was great. Nobody delivers an insults like Ock. "Peons!!" :woot:

You excited for Ock's return, Haz? The 600th issue of ASM. They save the biggest events for the anniversary issues. This is a great sign. I am so excited.

Heh-eh, thanks. :) It's the most fun playing him when I've got good people to work off of, too.

In the RP, Ock's been going the "reformed villain" thing in public; he made a deal with another character -- he helps her with a little project of hers (one that actually interested him, once he learned the details) and received a full pardon. But that was a looong time ago, months upon months, and playing "nice" in public has been wearing at his patience lately.

I'm both excited and nervously cautious. And fist-shakey -- damn you, Joe Q! He discovered my weakness, the one thing that would get me to buy issues of his filthy Brand New Day brand of Spider-Man. Hmph! :cmad: :hehe:

Cool. Ock has been pretty much ignored the last 4 years. I can only think of an ish where he wigged out after Spidey unmasked, like he didn't know he'd been fighting a kid, & the Ultimate Clone Saga, which was ok until it turned Ock into a second-rate Magneto.

I think the last time Otto showed up in ASM was in 2002 or 2003. Thats definitely too long for an iconic villain.

Newsarama
And as Steve has already revealed, we’re going to begin moving hot and heavy into bringing back many of the classic Spidey villains, polished up and made to look spiffy and relevant for a new era.

Hmm....

Wasn't Doc Ock the only classic villain JMS used in his run on ASM?

You wary about that, Wabbit? I think a few of the classics could do with a bit of spiffing up in their costumes. Electro got one in Marvel Knights a few years ago.

I want to see Ock back in his armani suits:

^^ It would rock if we saw ock in his armani suit in ASM issue 600! :otto::up:

So, Joker, does tihs mean you'll be picking up ASM again?

I came to the Hype for Spider-Man 1, back when the site was just Spider-Man Hype.

No way, I didn't know it was specifically for one hero. For picking a hero to start with, Spider-man ain't a shabby choice.

The Ramos design shows that not all "upgrades" are good. :) Or... remember the robo-limbs Ock look of the Byrne Spidey reboot 'round the turn of the century?

This is why I am only /cautiously/ hopeful.

But, hey, even if it sucks, there's still the SSM cartoon! Which continues to be MADE of pure AWESOME.

:spidey:

Given all the years of waiting & all the false starts, it's really not surprising. It followed every stage of the movie's production, including the fanboy speculation, wild rumors & first peek at GG.

So, Joker, does tihs mean you'll be picking up ASM again?

I'll be picking up Doc Ock's issues, if they're good, of course. If Joe Q does something lame with him, then I wont be buying them.

But I have a good feeling about this one. They seem to be saying Ock is making a big comeback. And Dan Slott is supposed to be writing it. So all the right signs are there.

Fingers crossed. If Ock's comeback is awesome enough, it might just tempt be back to be a regular buyer of ASM. Doc Ock is my weak spot in Spidey's world.

Oh yeah, but that seemed to be a tie in with the movie. Trenchcoat look and all that. Besides, I'm not keen on Ramos' art at the best of times.

Also, they seemed to have dropped that look. You'll remember he was back to his more traditional style in Sensational and Thunderbolts.

Indeed! After the Master Planner arc, Doc Ock is still scheduled for another TWO episodes this season, both involving the gang war arc.

Can't wait.

Well, there was that one story that shall not be mentioned. :cwink:

LOL! Bloody thing is still in continuity, too, as Thunderbolts confirmed. But that was more of a flashback story. Norman himself was not active involved in that story. It was The Grey Goblin

Yep, I remember. I'm just feeling cautious. Hopeful, but cautious. I guess I'm a bit burned out and feeling ill-used by Marvel these days. Especially after I'd hung along giving 'em the benefit of the doubt for so long. The Iron Spidey suit, the Avengers-joining, Civil War, even the unmasking -- I was interested and enthusiastic, curious to see what would happen next.

Two more OMG BIG EVENTS wore down my enthusiasm, and One More Day knocked me out like an adamantium tentacle to the temple. Smack, thud.

Spouse is still waiting for Steve Rogers to come back, poor guy. He actually likes Brubaker's work and has no objections to Bucky!Cap... but he wants Steve back and doesn't want to read Captain America 'til he does. (Then, he says, he'll go back and read the stuff he missed.)

Maybe, like the Clone Saga, Brand New Day will be enjoyable to read one day... after things are put back the way they were.

Brand New Day will not be changed anytime soon. Marvel are fully committted to loseing money now to make more later.

Not to mention they are actually making more now due to the times a month outselling the 3 individual titles

Agreed. That was really as close as we got to another classic villain showing up.
