Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 2

We actually have to save the "he'll do just fine" for guys like Pratt and RDJ ironically. And they did so.

His scenes in 12 Years a Slave proves that he can pull off a decent American accent.

Kind of an interesting study in psychology, this. As much as people demand stuff like BC for Strange, Idris Elba for Black Panther, etc., you don't want it to actually happen because then there's nothing else to do. We can argue for hours about how Jesse Eisenberg could possibly play Lex Luthor, but with this one there's nothing to say because we know he'll be awesome. We'd rather have a totally out-there choice that we can talk about and manip and speculate what he'll be like. With this, what more is there to say besides "Good casting"? It's cool, but it's also kind of unsatisfying.

As evidenced by the fact that I've already said more about the reaction to this casting than the casting itself. Seriously, there's just nothing to say.

I agree. Damn Marvel for not 'thinking outside the box' and casting someone potentially less well suited.

It's not "damn Marvel," it's "oh, ok, he'll be good I guess." Not very exciting. It's not like a black-listed actor with a history of substance abuse that just started a career uptick with his quirky under the radar crime capers (RDJ) or an overweight likable doofus on a cult tv show who just recently got ripped for an Oscar nominated movie (Pratt). It's that guy who gets suggested for so many comic roles it would eventually stick most well-known for playing someone fairly similar to Dr. Strange.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen him interviewed and he's a pretty funny guy, not up his own ass or holier than thou. ****, he just did a dance to a Beyonce jam the other night. Before he always kinda came off as one of those "I'm totally method and devoid of humor" guys, but he's doing a goddamn Penguins of Madagascar movie so I took it back. :oldrazz:

Somehow I knew it was going to happen for some strange reason. No pun intended. Going to be interesting to see how he's going to do the role. More than likely, his fan base is going to be bigger like Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Yes, I can't tell minorities apart :whatever:

Black/Asian/Hispanic, I just used Black as an example. Doctor Strange is White. Why is it a slam for Marvel to cast someone white as Doctor Strange.

Man do not respond to my posts. At the very least be correct when you do. I have no idea at all what you are talking about. Who is slamming Marvel for casting a white guy for Dr Strange? Surly you aren't referring to me because no where was I complaining about Marvel casting a white guy.

Except that I remember all of the complaints when RDJ was cast. People whining that he didn't look like Tony Stark, or that he'd never carried a major franchise before, or my personal favorite "he'll show up on set coked out of his mind" (despite that fact that he'd been clean a sober for several years before IM 1).

Almost like it always happens, no matter what. The movie forums I visit (that aren't strictly about comics) were head over heels for the choice.

I just don't get how anyone could hear Cumberbatch's voice, and not want to hear him say, "The Eye of Agamotto"?

A predictable casting isnt a bad one. It just means that person just really suits that role, and it certainly helps when that person is a fantastic actor.

Patrick Stewart was fancasted for years as Professor X. See how horribly that turned out..lol.

Well on the plus side, this means he won't likely be cast in a DC or Star Wars movie.

I'm not going to lie, if Cumberbatch announces Black Panther tomorrow at El Capitan, I'd pretty much geek out.

I am convinced his voice, and the requirement for not sounding silly when shouting the sorts of things Strange tends to spend his time shouting, is why BC landed this.

Well except when it comes to something like Green Lantern or TASM 2. Totally should have listened to the nerds. :oldrazz:

Both were a result of too much studio interference (GL changing it's script and TASM2 having too much script), not a result of bad castings (well except for Foxx as Electro).

I understand you are being supportive, but that line just makes me smile. It isn't like we are talking about someone who isn't a fantastic actor. The man has mad skills.

Lol yeah i agree the man has mad skills, and the voice and intelligence required for the role. No doubt he is a very accomplished actor and Marvel is very lucky to have him under its wing. Anyone who has seen Sherlock or other work of his knows he is fantastic every time.

Some people wanted POC, for this role i don't think it would work, just like with iron fist. The interesting thing about them is that they are aliens in a strange land, in arts that go beyond our current understanding of reality. I hope we see much more diversity some day, but for this roles i think being Caucasian its an integral part of it
