Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 2

He had long been my second choice after Viggo Mortenson (who I had dumped as my first choice after he criticized CGI movies and replaced him with Jake G).

Is this about his reaction to The Hobbit movies? Because he wasn't wrong.

I don't think he'll be bad at all, the choice is just so uninspired and boring to me.

So? The performance is more important, not the casting carousel. Most people aren't going to care who else was going to be in the role a year from now when people are praising the trailer and acting as if no one else could have done the role justice. :funny:

He'll probably be awesome in the role...but yeah, kind of anticlimactic after all that speculation. I guess with so many people fancasting him for everything, he was going to end up in a CBM sooner or later.

get

I keep reading stuff like 'meh - uninspired' and 'obvious'. Maybe its uninspired and obvious because he's simply such a good fit in the first place. The guy is a phenomenal actor and we're lucky that Marvl have securd his servces imo. Seriously, I have to ask - what about him makes people think that he isn't suited to Strange? Answers on a postcard, please?

Honestly, I don't get it.

We've decided to cast an actor who is incredibly talented and fits the character in every way.

People's reaction:

"Meh, predictable."

That's like saying they shouldn't have cast Patrick Stewart as Prof X because he was too right for the part. Honestly:whatever:

I for one couldn't be more excited about this pick. I've been a huge fan of Cumberbatch ever since I stumbled upon Sherlock way back when. He's very talented, and he's a perfect fit for the role. With him, you KNOW you're going to get a quality performance.

Times change, I guess. I remember when Christian Bale was cast as Batman, and the Batboards basically had a party because he was the biggest fan pick.

Cumberbatch has made me incredibly excited about this film.

He's also 38, so he may be playing the role for a while.

Plus it's a chance for him to play a good guy in a major movie. I mean Gary Oldman was damn good as James Gordon in the Christopher Nolan Batman films after years of playing bad guys on film. So why can't Cumberbatch play a good guy for once?

They weren't going to cast a black man for Doctor Strange. Did WB cast a black man for Batman?

What the H are you talking about???? Where did I ever say I wanted a black man for Strange. I've never mentioned not one black actor for Strange. Now if you are referring to Oscar Isaacs, who's latino but you are confused and can't tell the difference between a black a hispanic then it's your problem. Maybe we all look alike to you. Sweet Jesus!

Quite a coup for Marvel. Not only is he seemingly well cast for thr role but it keeps him away from DC. Even though he has a relationship with Warner he probably realised that any role they had for him was going to be limited. Working with Marvel as one of their central heroes is going to be a consistent moneymaker, which is something every actor needs regardless of what they say about artistic integrity.

Honestly, I don't get it.

Quite.

People are allowed to have differing opinions on things....

I never thought they would go this route...I mean, this was my dream casting but I never once figured Marvel would actually go with him!! WOW!!!

People usually complain when its an out of the box choice...now people are complaining because its "predictable"?

Reason #25,091 that I'm tired of modern fanboy.

that is the definition of being an uninspired and obvious choice.

Yeah these reactions are surprising to me, I mean maybe it is an easy choice but I want a Strange film to have guaranteed success.

The fact that Oscar Isaac was rumored but not chosen might be an indication of his character's status after Star Wars Episode VII ends.

You know "fancasting" can be really amusing (or annoying depending on your POV). Fans constantly whine about studio taking the "safe" option and not "thinking outside the box." And then when studios DO do those things (Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, etc), fans then whine about them "not being right" for the part and start suggesting the more "safe" options instead. Really if you're a casting director, then you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Not matter what, fans are going to complain about something.

Really? Now we have complaints that Dr. Strange wasn't cast as a black guy or some other POC? Lol. Silly internet go home you're drunk.

Thread title should be changed to "wah someone disagreed with me"

oh wait that would be every thread

Sherlock is the one I have wanted from the start. God, I hope this is true. Cumberbatch makes this an instant must see for me. He is such a good and intriguing actor, that I enjoy just watching him work. I really, really hope this happens.

Cumberbatch is fantastic and now I have a reason to see this film.

So happy to see him get a lead role in a big movie.
We have agreed on two things today. A new record? :wow:

I would have liked Jake G, but I can deal with Cumberbatch since he's been my second choice all along.
