Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 2

I would rather save him for the Tony Stark recast

Isn't he like 40? I'm not saying he's too old but RDJ is like 48. I think they are too close in age for him to replace RDJ, but I just hit me if they wanna keep Stark in the same age Bracket then casting Farrell would work. I guess sort of like James Bond.

Farrell could also play Strange but my problem with Farrell is he is box office poison. I've not seen a movie that he carried as a leading man successfully. Then again he probably doesn't have to. The Marvel brand will carry the film but I still I want a good Doc Strange. I wouldn't be against Farrell but I would like someone else first, second, and third.

I know I'm probably the only one in the minority, but I could actually see Jay Baruchel as Strange for some reason. Given the right script and all, he could pull it off. I mean come on, no one in their mind ever thought of Chris Pratt as Star Lord and look how that turned out. Got to have an open mind, people.

Sorry dude, but this is way different casting for JB as Strange then Pratt as SL. This man doesn't fit the bill at all. I've read too many comics and is familiar with a lot of characters. Pratt being cast as Peter Quill was never a problem for me because I've seen Pratt's work and I knew he would fit Quill just fine. JB as Strange is another matter entirely. No!

You are right about that age since Farell is 38 now and he will be 42 when A3 comes out and RDJ hangs up his suit, meaning he will be 44-45 when he acts in an Iron-man/Avengers movie

But then again they cast Paul Rudd who is 45 so who knows, but I think they will just retire the character for a decade or so since now they have a lot of other characters to look after and Iron Man's isn't the only main man anymore

No-one mentioned Keanu Reeves. Would not be my choice but was talking about it in an interview:

http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=32103

In a new interview, Reeves spoke about the rumor. "From a practical standpoint the idea of a long-time contract is sort of 'errr,' because you want to make sure the material is up to a certain level. Like the good or great level," he explained. "I like the idea. I go to those kinds of movies. I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels. [But] I didn't know Doctor Strange as a character, I didn't read that as a kid. I’m gonna have to read it."

Reeves would be awesome as Strange. I'm one of the few here who is probably a fan. He can totally do it. I don't know if Marvel would go with a 49 year old to cast in a franchise but it'll probably be for like 3 films so Reeves could pull it off but while I like him and wouldn't mind him getting the part I don't see it happening.

Reeves could pull off Strange I suppose. There are a ton more suitable, cheaper people out there Marvel can get though.

The oldest Marvel should go is 45,any older is a strict no-no

Maybe not. Probably in the old days of Hollywood that would've been a no no, but I'm not so sure about today. Reeves looks great. Hollywood is shifting, the ageism in Hollywood while still there is improving. 10-15 years ago the thought of casting over 40 RDJ, Mark Ruffalo or Ben Affleck would've been unheard of but today the characters could easily be in that age range. Strange too is a comic character where an actor not in his late 20's or earlier 30's isn't a must. To me it depends on the character. Famke Jannsen, James Mardsen, and Halle Berry as Jean, Scott, and Storm in DOFP worked out good and they can still do an Xfilm with them. No one seems to mind or care as much about age anymore cause people are still going to see these movies. Age has always been Hollywood's problem more so then the mainstream movie going audience.

Keanu is going to look the same for another 50 years anyways. Shouldn't be a problem.

Age is only a number. You have 50 year olds that pass for 40's and 40 year olds that pass for 30's and on and on and vice versa. What a role entails also should determine what you can do. A role like Stephen Strange shouldnt be overly physical to begin with as most of his visual dynamics are spell casting and mostly vocal.

Well believe it or not,an almost 50 year old is going to look old
Plus the older the lead, the less enthusiastic he is,making a Marvel movie is no small deal, you have to go to comic cons and appear in different talk shows and what not,not everybody can do it for multiple movies. And we want to avoid an Edward Norton type situation which is why it is best to avoid casting someone so established in the lead role(one of the reasons I was against casting Phoenix)(it is no coincidence that the established actors Marvel have cast appear in supporting roles or in 1-2 films or both-Redford,Anthony Hopkins,Tommy Lee Jones,Douglas)

For me at present the perfect guy is Ethan Hawke,he is the right age,he looks the part most among all of those rumored, has worked with and genuinely admires the Director, and he seems keen towards the role.Plus he is one of those guys who is quite talented but hasn't had those eye-catching roles(ALA RDJ pre-2008) which is why he will be cheap

What happened to the Jared Leto rumour? He was was on everybody's lips before Phoenix came and was praised by the whole world as the best casting decision ever.
But then Phoenix left. What happens now?

Yeah you're partly right to an extant but I think it depends on the individual more so then age being the reason to not want to do comic con and other appearances and multiple films. I don't think 50 is too old where you're like "oh I'm tired I'm not going to do this. Sam Jackson is like 64 or 65 and he seems to love what he does and always makes appearances and promotes his films. Tom Cruise is 51 or so. Ian McKellan is in his late 70's and he was in his 60's when he was cast as Gandalf. I'm not sure if the character is supposed to be that old cause i've never read the books but he's done a fine job and he's been in the Xmen films and all the LOTR films and did the promotions and such so I don't buy it about the age of the actor. I think it's more so the person themselves. Look at Josh Hartnett. He walked away from acting for a while because he said he got tired of doing it and all the stuff that came along with it.

I don't hear too much about older actors or ones over 40 being problematic more so then the younger stars with all their drug use and other stuff going on. A lot of them younger stars have so much success and want to be out there partying. I mean I can list examples but in the end it comes down to the individual.

Hawke would be great as Strange too but he's like 43. I hope that's not to old for you, LOL. All jokes aside though I don't want to see some kid as Strange or an actor that's 28. Even though I've mentioned Daniel Radcliff as Strange I think the biggest problem with him is his age right now. I think a good fit for strange is an actor around 40 but Reeves at 50 isn't to bad either. It's believable for a world class Doctor to be older and experienced and not some 30-35 year old. Heck Doctors are just starting out around 30.

Right now we don't know who Marvel is in talks with.

Ethan Hawke: was a good choice until it was shot down, He's a good actor and while he's not had the mega box office status he can do it and the movie will do well off the marvel name so it wouldn't be dependent upon him to pull in the audience.

Jared Leto: Another rumor that hasn't been debunked yet but I'm fine with him too.

Reeves: This is a role that would fit Reeves. I hope Marvel somehow was behind the push to get his name out there to test fan reaction. I like it.

I approve of that potential casting he was the only tolerable part of the prequels

Ok, I can totally get behind that, and it is awesome, since I did not even consider him.

I would be cool with McGregor as Strange. He's no Nikolaj Coster-Waldau but he would make a fine Doctor Strange.
