Ewan McGregor? Somehow I can actually see that. Such a strange yet inspiring choice thinking about it. No pun intended.

McGregor would be a lot of fun in the role. He's had some big movies and even in those he was underrated or swallowed up by general movie crappiness (Prequels, The Island). I could see him really going all-in and "owning" the character as Evans, RDJ, and Hiddles have done. Crossing my fingers at this point since we're running out of time and that he's a solid choice.

I'd get behind McGregor or Gyllenhaal, or to a lesser extent Hawke. Still really not interested in Leto or McConaughey getting the part. They were both great in DBC, but I don't see them in this role at all. Haven't seen Isaac in anything but I've heard some great things.

Overall I wouldn't be surprised if this was another Captain America/Star-Lord situation where every name in Hollywood is rattled off in the trades until someone completely different locks it up outta nowhere.

Oscar Isaac's the only name on that list I'd be excited about, tbh. I'd be cool with McGregor, too, but I kind of actively dislike all the other options there.

I desperately hope they just give the damn thing to Edgar Ramirez… Or completely out of the blue choice and cast Tilda Swinton!

I mean, she's played dudes before.

Part of the problem with Doctor Strange is that I'm already feeling fatigue just from all the BTS stuff with the movie. The back and forth with casting. I don't blame Marvel, but the trades for talking about it; though I guess I should blame Marvel for being such HUGE successes that now any article about what salad Kevin Feige's eating today is click bait. So of course they'll report endlessly on who's meeting with Marvel about what… and it's utterly ridiculous.

I really need them to start casting Inhumans ASAP. That might be our best hope for a female and non-white actor-led movie LOL!!

That's what I'm betting on too, honestly at this point I want them to hurry up and cast somebody and announce it. At least then we'd finally get a Dr. Strange forum here

So we got a bunch of additional names as well. You all do realize that Marvel is gonna cast someone totally unexpected and none of these guys will get the part. I'll give my 2 cents anyway.

Leto: I like him and while not my top choice on the list he's be good,

Isaac: Talk about good casting. This guy has a class to him that I like. I can see him in the role. He's probably my top pick out of this list. I don't see this happening though cause he's busy with SW and I know some will make a big deal cause he's hispanic. I hope not but the trolls like they always do will come out. I say cast some diversity.

McConaughey:I actually don't mind him in the role. I like MM and he's a good actor. The only draw I think fans will have is his southern accent. I actually don't care and won't make a stink about it because I can't see Marvel having him speak with a Northern accent, I'm sure he could do it but the man has been around for years and I've yet to see him do any other accent but his natural texas drawl. Yep if he gets it we'll have a Doc Strange from Texas. I think this will be the biggest surprise to fans if he's cast. I see him as a dark horse pick. Marvel may just do it too.

McGregor: He's a good actor but I just want an American in the role and not a Brit. He's at the bottom of my list but I wouldn't hate him getting the role. Please god Marvel if he's cast please don't make Strange British. Bad enough with Prof X. What is it with this attitude that if Class is needed make the character British. Dr Strange is classy but he's an American.

Gyllenhaal: I do not see Strange in this guy what so ever. Yeah he's a fine actor and all but he would make a better Nova or The BLACK KNIGHT. He's not Strange at all. He's 2nd from the bottom of my list but only because I don't want to see a Brit get the role or otherwise he'd be at the bottom. America all the way. We have way to many talented actors here, their's no need to go abroad.

Hawke: He'd be my second choice under Isaac. Good actor and has he chops to pull it off. He's probably the one marvel would hire out of this list.

Yeah I know Isaac wan't born in the US but I think Marvel needs to put some diversity on their roaster with a person of color cast as a major hero and not a sidekick like Falcon or War Machine. Besides are their any Latino popular Superheroes that Marvel and DC actually have and put forth any effort into developing them? I can't think of any and that's sad.

Don't know much about Strange, but damn it if i don't hope that shortlist is true, pretty much a list of my favourite actors right there.

@Nokio just cos the actor is British doesn't mean the character will be. You know Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Beast for example

How on earth have you come to the conclusion that they are looking to make the character British? Are you seriously suggesting that McGregor would either adopt a Ben Kenobi-esque English accent for Strange or that we'd actually get a Scottish accented Dr. Strange? I wouldnt be so quick to discount the notion that McGregor would play Strange as he should be - an American.

What happened to the Jared Leto rumour? He was was on everybody's lips before Phoenix came and was praised by the whole world as the best casting decision ever.
But then Phoenix left. What happens now?

He has taken a break from acting(again!)

And as much as I would have loved him as Strange,he was never the guy who would be tied down for multiple roles

Yeah you're partly right to an extant but I think it depends on the individual more so then age being the reason to not want to do comic con and other appearances and multiple films. I don't think 50 is too old where you're like "oh I'm tired I'm not going to do this. Sam Jackson is like 64 or 65 and he seems to love what he does and always makes appearances and promotes his films. Tom Cruise is 51 or so. Ian McKellan is in his late 70's and he was in his 60's when he was cast as Gandalf. I'm not sure if the character is supposed to be that old cause i've never read the books but he's done a fine job and he's been in the Xmen films and all the LOTR films and did the promotions and such so I don't buy it about the age of the actor. I think it's more so the person themselves. Look at Josh Hartnett. He walked away from acting for a while because he said he got tired of doing it and all the stuff that came along with it.

But age is the main factor for me as far as Reeves is concerned,he will be pushing 60 by the time the third Doctor Strange movie(hopefully) comes out,while Doctor Strange isn't someone whose age defines him(as opposed to say Spider-man),I would like them to cast someone in him in the 35-45 age group

I don't hear too much about older actors or ones over 40 being problematic more so then the younger stars with all their drug use and other stuff going on. A lot of them younger stars have so much success and want to be out there partying. I mean I can list examples but in the end it comes down to the individual.

And another reason why I am against Reeves,despite not seeing a lot of his movies,he comes across as someone who takes the role that really excites him.I don't want him take this role because Marvel is hot right now and then get bored after a movie and sleepwalk through the rest.
Something similar happened with Hugo Weaving,Red skull interested him and he took the role but afterwards announced that he was bored and CBM movies are not for him.Many might disagree but that must be one of the reason that Marvel are reluctant to use Red Skull again since Weaving in not interested despite being under contract and they don't want him to sleepwalk through it
That's also the reason while I am happy Phoenix and Jared Leto are out of the scene too,they are not gonna stick around

Hawke would be great as Strange too but he's like 43. I hope that's not to old for you, LOL. All jokes aside though I don't want to see some kid as Strange or an actor that's 28. Even though I've mentioned Daniel Radcliff as Strange I think the biggest problem with him is his age right now. I think a good fit for strange is an actor around 40 but Reeves at 50 isn't to bad either. It's believable for a world class Doctor to be older and experienced and not some 30-35 year old. Heck Doctors are just starting out around 30.

As I said,35-45 is the perfect age for me
Being a medical student myself I know being too young will take away the feel of a successful neurosurgeon.That's the main reason I was against Radcliffe(apart from him being a bit short and lacking charisma)
