Some fantastic reviews. RT 100%, IMDB 9.2/10.

Anyway. When will Doc Strange be set? It must be set a few years ago as Hydra were aware of him and his powers in the Winter Soldier. Also I'm guessing he'd have to have spent a few years training with the Ancient One. Any ideas?

When did Hydra mention him? I saw TWS and I didn't catch his being mention. When was it.

When sitwel is naming off people on the watch list, i believe its the last name he states after banner.

Pedro Pascal or Edgar Ramirez.

Sheesh. Never seen such indecision on Marvel's part. They must've really wanted Joaquin.

It could just be the trades running with rumors/names "leaked", which could mean any number of things. I don't actually believe Marvel's being this indecisive about Doctor Strange though. I feel they have major contingencies in place when their Plan A falls through.

Honestly, that list could be fake, or that list could be real, or part of the list could be true. Have no way of knowing.

Well their are a lot of options and names are getting constantly thrown in the mix.

Tom Cruise would be awesome. I think he'd do it if he was offered and can clear his plate. Cruise films always do well overseas. They love him. This is one of the few roles as Superhero that I can see him playing, heck maybe the only one. I just can't see people getting upset over Cruise as Strange. He's also a damn good actor.

Liam Neeson would be awesome as well for Strange. This man has the personality to pull it off easily. Even though he's 60 I can't see anyone complaining about him. He's certainly believable as a world class Doctor more then someone in their late 20's or early 30's that some people seem to want.
I want someone who looks older. I won't be able to take a young looking Strange as seriously.

Pedro Pascal or Edgar Ramirez.

Either of those guys would be perfect. Pascal looks so much like the comic book Strange to me it's nuts. They need to do this. Marvel has so many white guys in leading roles, it's time to mix it up a bit. Marvel fanboys can trashtalk WB all they want, but right now, WB has really stepped up to the plate in terms of diversity.

That's only cos they announced films for the next 6 years. I would like to think there will be a Ms Marvel and BP film by 2020

If Vin Diesel ends up playing Black Bolt, I suspect there will be Inhumans, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel by 2020. But that doesn't mean Pascal is or is not a bad choice. I know nothing about it. He can certainly pull off the look, though.

To me, any actor playing Strange needs to be able to pull off the following:

a) Supreme competence, whether it's in the OT or casting crazy spells.
b) Extraordinary intelligence, but a quiet, contemplative type of intelligence.
c) Confidence, bordering on overconfidence.
d) Something intangibly otherworldly.

Phoenix would've been my top choice, but that ship has sailed, and realistically, I think most of us knew that he wouldn't commit to a contract that had him locked down for 6 or so movies.

Ewan McGregor checks all four boxes for me and is my current top choice. I still consider his turn as Mark Renton in Trainspotting as an all time great performance. Doesn't always pick the greatest of movies, but in terms of pure talent, I don't think you could do much better.

I'd be cool with Hawke, Pascal (though I'm not sure if he was rumored or merely fancast) or Oscar Isaac.

Cumberbatch, Leto, Gyllenhaal and Tom Hardy are all somewhere between really good and fantastic as actors, but for some reason, I can't see any of them as Strange. Then again, wouldn't be surprised at all if one of them gets the call and subsequently murders the role.

Reeves gets a big "NOOOOOO!" from me. I just cannot see this work from any frickin' angle. Let's just move on.

Farrell is an interesting case. He's done fantastic work in some indy fare... he's spectacular in In Bruges, for example. But he's been absolutely horrible in some other parts. Miami Vice (dude was coked up during the entire shoot and it shows) and Daredevil (though in his defense, everyone in that era of CBMs were prone to hamming it up) come to mind immediately. Plus, he comes with quite a bit of baggage... though nothing insurmountable. Overall, if I were making the decision, I'd consider Farrell too much of a risk.

Pedro Pascal or Ioan Gruffud(Fantastic on Forever)

Probably none of these rumors are reliable - after all - it means Marvel has some intern or dissatisfied staff leaking stuff, correct?

Of course they are reliable, they used to be reliable. One day they will come up with a name Marvel will end up confirming.

Liking that Colin Farrell's name got thrown into the mix. Hoping its more than rumors.

Ewan would be a cool choice. Gyllenhaal, I don't really see it. He has too much a boyish wonder on his face (at least in the roles I've seen him in). I want someone who can get a weariness in their face for the role. Who knows, if they go with Gyllenhaal he could always surprise. Marvel hasn't miscast anyone thus far.

You should watch him in 'Prisoners'

Reeves is going to be Strange. it' already a wrap. Remember I said it here first.

Phoenix would have been amazing for a one off Dr Strange film but useless as the long term Dr Strange of the MCU. His passion would be gone when the end credits of his solo rolled. He might have been the moat talented contender but not necessarily the best fit for the way Marvel do things.

Agreed, i think Jake G has really grown out of the boyish look. He looks very mature in Prisoners and in The Night crawler.

Even when he had a more inherently boyish look (which I think he'll eventually return to, I assume he'll be gaining some weight back now that Nightcrawler is done), he played dour very well like in Donnie Darko, Zodiac, and Jarhead

Someone brought up Tom Cruise, but that would be an awesome thing honestly.
