Yeah Tom Cruise is still popular but outside of Mission Impossible his movies aren't huge hits anymore. I think after the crazy Oprah and Scientology thing many Americans turn away from Cruise now.

I think he took a small dip during his crazy stage with Oprah. But I want to say most of his moves have opened to 100 DOM.

I think it is more to do with actors having less and less pull not just Cruise, people don't seem to just go to an actors movie any more unless it is good, of course Edge of Tomorrow was well received but had bad marketing.

I certainly dont think Cruise is any less the megastar he was. The M:I movies are still good [the last one arguably being the best; well, I thought it was certainly the most enjoyable of the series], Oblivion and Edge of Tommorrow were great movies and Cruise was great in them.

I think it would be a real coup for Marvel to get Cruise as Strange. Not that I think it would happen, but it would be absolutely epic if they did. MARVEL + Tom Cruise? That would be huge.

That has become a myth,he was once,but his overseas hold isn't the same anymore as it is apparent by his recent movies

I think Ghostcrow13 has a point though. I can only speak for myself but I find that I'm less likely now to go see a movie because of who is in it than I once was. I can remember that I'd go see an Arnie/Sly/Cruise/Pitt movie no matter what but now I go if the movie itself interests me, irrespective of who is starring in it. I dont see it as evidence of star power on the wane per se, if anything those guys are just as bigger stars to me now as they were, just that my selection process in regards to movies I go to the cinema to see has changed. Especially with the cost of going the cinema rising [and expenditure in general increasing] and my income decreasing/not keeping up with the cost of living.

Still think the collaboration of MARVEL and Cruise would be a massive deal.

Wow... people need to go watch Edge of Tomorrow. One of the best sci-fi action films of the 21st century. Ghost Protocol was also awesome. As was Jack Reacher actually. Then there is Collateral where Cruise definitely plays against type.

Cruise is a fantastic actor, no doubt.

But still, Jake Gyllenhaal for Dr Strange.

I actually think Marvel has nailed down the actor. They just don't feel the need to announce it just yet. The film is still like 7 months away from filming. If these journalists are going to keep their name and the movie in the news cycle, why stop the free publicity?

The Tom Cruise thing isn't a rumor as far as I know... just a "what if?" kinda fan-cast. But yea, I agree with most in that he's wrong for the role. Ewan McGregor's my pick right now.

However, I'm starting to think all of this will play out like the Star-Lord search. There was a big rumored list of candidates, and then Marvel announced Chris Pratt, who wasn't on anyone's radar, and the internet collectively went "Hell yea, that works!"
