Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread - Part 19

Even without any TV episodes this year, Big Finish is making more audios than every before. There's a short season of 10th Doctor audios starring Tennant and Tate coming out this May, another couple of 8th Doctor box sets, War Doctor episodes, some adaptations of 90's novels, some 1st Doctor stuff.

The downside is that it all costs money.

For all the Doctor Who fans in the Kentucky area http://lexingtoncomiccon.com/guests.html

The Lexington Ky Comic Con featuring Karan Gillan, Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy.

Hopefully I will have my Income Tax return money in by then and be able to go.

Two things:

1. River Song is at it again in her next box set. She's meeting more Doctors she ought not to. Big Finish just released this photo of the actors in the recording studio.

2. The trailer for The Tenth Doctor Adventures audios is out.

Wow ... Instant nostalgia hearing the 10th Doctor and Donna again.
I actually didn't like Donna at all back in the day, but I've softened a lot to her over the years.
Maybe because of how much I disliked having to put up with Clara Oswald for three seasons ... :/

So, internet will explode tomorrow. Good to know.

Looks like female shoes. Also, will they be doing this during the United/Everton FA Cup match?

Looks like a kid's shoes. Or an adult woman with teeny feet. Either that or Peter has huge feet.

Apparently impossible to keep a secret these days. :funny:

"Bill"? We keep hearing that the new companion is unlike any to come before. Granted, we hear that with every companion...but between the name and the promises of something new, is it possible that Bill is the first transgender companion?

I've got a feeling that Bill is just a nickname or a shortened version of Billie or something like Billie-Jo or Billie Jean or even... ugh, Wilhelmina...

:hehe: Seriously bro? You couldn't mention Billie Piper? Did I accidentally stumble into the Outlander thread or something?

I'm guessing she's from the 80's? He makes a reference to going forward in time to 2017. Obviously nothing says she isn't from 2017 and just looks like someone from the 80's but that's my guess.

I hope she's not been brought in to try and balance the "young fans" perception of an older doctor if you get what I'm saying.

I just don't want to see the writers try too hard at making her "hip and meta" where she's asking the type of questions that possibly non-fans might do (eg. why do they have a sucker), which could get a little much.

I won't read too much into it for now, since this was just a quick introduction without any context. I wasn't really excited to see more though - but perhaps I'm not starting to show my age and the show is passing me by (33 years old).

.

That's exactly how I felt about it. My first impression was: "This is how an average DW fangirl would look like as a companion." I think that's why she has been receiving such a positive reaction.

I haven't really formed an opinion on Bill yet, but I hate very few companions, so I'm looking forward to her.

Isn't that what all new companions are? They represent the new viewer just jumping into the show

That's how it's been since the relaunch in 2005 and even in the old seasons.

Rose was "Why is it a police telephone box?"

Audience member- Yeah. I was wondering that myself

Victorian Clara- Does it have a kitchen?

and ofcourse

"It's bigger on the inside!"

And then there was Amy taking it all in in this dvd clip

First impressions can be difficult with Doctor Who. Clara turned out decent but she was so boring and uninteresting for a large chunk of her time there. I thought Donna was going to be constantly annoying but that didn't happen. Amy's infatuation with the Doctor was not nearly over the top as I expected.

Having seen scarcely two minutes of Bill I don't have any context of whether she is a play to appeal to younger females only or if she will be someone with a broader appeal to everyone else.

What is going on with that girl's eyebrows?

I think it's important to remember Moffat's slow burn style of characterization when it comes to Bill.

Both Amy and Clara were initially accused of having no personality whatsoever by most fans, but we knew them inside and out after their first full seasons. It's really hard to get a feel for Bill in that brief little video.

I do know that I love her afro, though.
