The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Does this movie really deserve the hate it gets?

It doesn't deserve the hate.

After finally watching it, Webb did a very good job for the most part, I did have some nitpicks throughout with the relationship between Peter and Gwen, and Peter and Aunt May.

However, the villains weren't very strong, however Harry was the most believable. I didn't like how Uncle Ben was marginalized, I didn't like how the venom's serum only at first was made so only someone with the Parker's bloodline could utilize it, the dub step in the score with Electro was just awful, I didn't like utilizing Captain Stacy, the whole parents plot and again Electro and Rhino were just way, way over the top.

However, in a year with TWS, DOFP and GOTG, it's the lesser of the 4.

Forgot you hadn't seen it yet. You got a rating?

The Peter and Gwen stuff I felt was done pretty well and if it wasn't for that, I'd probably rank this a 4. But because of it, I think 5 maybe 6?

I felt bad for Peter at the end, and if I was able to be invested even knowing what was going to happen, I have to give this movie a little credit.

Webb did do a good job with that aspect of the film. I just don't think he was the right man for the job for the villain dynamic. I also don't like the aspect of EVERYTHING coming from Oscorp. I understand it, but I don't think it's that hard to introduce other avenues.

I'm willing to give S6 a shot, but even with another director, it will really have to depend on the reviews for me to venture to the theaters.

Gotcha. 5, 6 sounded pretty low, though. Expected a 7 by your last post.

Oh, well, good you didn't hate it, at least.

I too hope that S6 turns out good. I'm not sure if I'm expecting it too, though.

I guess to clarify if this was a romance/drama called 500 Days of Gwen it'd be one thing, but it felt like they didn't put as much effort into setting up the villains and the other story arcs and the rest of the movie just dragged it down.

I don't think personally this belongs with X-Men: Wolverine Origins or the FF movies, Green Lantern, but there's only so much the Peter/Gwen stuff could do to elevate this movie for me.

Oh, it's definitely not as bad as XMO:W/FF.

But I disagree about Peter/Gwen stuff. Everybody keep praising it but I think it was almost on Peter/MJ level. All that drama was really unnecessary and honestly I felt almost nothing when she died.

Honestly, I feel like even if the next couple of films do bad overall, it doesn't really matter.

There's enough diehard Spidey fans out there for the films to make just enough to keep being made.

I genuinely feel like that's what Sony is hoping for.

$200/$700 isn't bad for most movies or even CBMs.

But if that's the new standard for Spider-Man movies, they might want to scale back on the cost of the movie and production.

If the next Hunger games made only $250, I'd consider that a disappointment considering the 1st 2 made $400 each.

Box office has dropped 20% or something like that on last year. So it's a bad year for everyone.

Sounds like you disliked most of the things I did, only you were more generous with your rating. Even the romance sub plot couldn't save the movie for me. I say that as someone who really likes Emma Stone's Gwen.

Edit; Spidey K, I am honored to make your sig lol

That's my point.

It's the fact that it's a Spidey film with these kind of numbers that's most alarming.

It's hard to see them cut back with all of the villains they're about to introduce in the series. You would think that more action by default calls for more a bigger budget.

Very true.

I'll have to dig up an article I saw a while ago, but it basically showed the numbers across the board for Marvel, Fox, and Sony. Some of these films are making big money regardless, but overall it's been a much slower year for everyone.

When SM3 came out and Hasbro had taken over, I became sad.

TBF, some of their figures were cool...that being said, I was basically

Once I saw the Hasbro logos on the figures.

However, if you're going to call your shot like Babe Ruth or in this case Amy Pascal saying the target is $1 billion, you should I dunno come a little closer.

I don't recall Fox or Marvel doing that.

lol they where only like 295 million off. But yeah it would be one thing if they said the want the movie to reach a billion and it was short but a lot closer like 950 million or something.

And vice chairman Jeff Blake was "retired" because of Sony's lower than anticipated numbers. I wonder who Pascal will blame for her next let down.

I just saw it and I was hoping the criticism was wrong but the movie was bad, really bad. The only decent part was maybe the last 15-20 minutes but the actual bulk of the film was cringeworthy. They really made sure to touch the most antiquated superhero clichés. Electro and his whole origin and motives were just weak and terrible and ruined this

They really need to pull their **** together otherwise they are killing themselves like are doing now.

Besides the last 15-20 minutes, can you elaborate on any other parts that you may have liked?

I'm reaaaaaallly hoping this is just like the 05-11 phase for the X-Films, which made a couple misfires and really re-gained their footing after. It kills me to just vehemently dislike a Spider-Man film so much.

Yeah I love the movie and don't get the hate but I hate that a lot of people hate the movie has I want the movie to be loved and I think Garfield desevers to have a great spider man movie has he is so good has spider man.

Yeah. I feel bad for Garfield because he's reaaaaallly trying, but the writing just sucks so much ass that it's a waste.

Yeah he is right there with RDJ has best actor at playing a superhero and if he got a great spider man movie he would get a lot more credit for just how great he is. I don't think I have never seen such a 50/50 split on a movie before. Like half love the movie and half hate it. I don't think there is any one that just think it is ok. Even man of steel witch split fans a lot I think more people liked then hated and I think some people thought it was just ok.

Woah, I wouldn't say he's anywhere near RDJ lol. The only ones up there with Downey are Bale, Maguire, Jackman, Fassbender/McKellen, and McAvoy/Stewart. But Garfield's good. He isn't the problem. MoS I watched twice, enjoyed it, but haven't seen it since last year.
