The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Does this movie really deserve the hate it gets?

I think people look past the impact of Rachel's death sometimes. Not only did it effect Bruce and Harvey, but Gordon as well. That's what made their final confrontation at the end of TDK personal and emotional for everyone involved. As far as no one caring about Rachel's death, I think they were more in shock about what had happened and didn't have time to react to her death. I didn't shed a tear over her dying, but you could feel the impact of it watching the rest of the movie.

I really felt nothing during Gwen's death. It was handled poorly. If they had made it more of Peter's fault for her being at the power plant, then that would have been a start. This is just one of many things they got wrong with the movie.

Exactly. It really is a key factor that makes Gwen's death so epic and tragic, and they left it out.

Darn shame. I've been waiting years to see Gwen's death adapted into something. Whether it's a movie, animated movie, or cartoon series.

He didn't. Some convincing crying acting doesn't make all the other issues vanish, mate.

True, the thing is that for me there wasn't any issues with this particular scene but faiirr ennoouggh.

Closing your eyes and accepting your fate is not saying goodbye. She only did that when she came close to the bottom and probably realized she wasn't going to be saved, or saved in time.

IT WAS AND DON'T DENY IT! :argh:

Just kidding :oldrazz: (Am i?)

Middle ground. It feels good to stand there with you, Andrew

:funny:

Yeah that's the risks of being with Spider-Man that you mentioned. Every girlfriend who knew his secret said the same thing. Even you know who at the end of a certain Raimi sequel.

If you're dating a superhero there is always an element of risk. But the difference is the risks they speak of is not them ignoring their superhero bfs and going running into super villain battles.

Agreed.

Possibly yeah. That's one of the risks they speak of. I can't think of a Spidey love interest who has not been kidnapped by a villain lol.

I was going to reply with "Black Cat" but she probably already did.

Well to each their own. Goblin is a great villain, one of the top 10 comic book villains so I don't see it in an insulting way. Even though I highly disagree with it.

But I don't want to turn the thread into a Joker vs Goblin thread either lol.

let's just agree that Joker is awesome.

I think that Gwen's death hit a lot of people lol.

Peter by destroying their future together.
Her family
Aunt May seemed affected.

So there was Impact and that impact will come to it's full strength when Peter and Harry final confrontation happens.

Of course. I respect your opinion. I know you're far from being alone on people who loved it. Most did. I didn't hate it just to clarify. It just wasn't as memorable or as great as many say for me, and it missed out on what made Gwen's death so epic in the comic books.

Oh yeah, several times. My favorite being this one, which was Doc Ock's handy work;

You are great,Joker

Gah I'm still finishing with ASM run, can't wait to read this one.

Man..you had no idea but I laughed so hard by that picture :lmao:

Anyway, I have to go now but It was great talking with ya

Oh yeah that too. Infant if he dies become the lizard again in sinister six, the amazing spiderman 3 or TASM 4 he might go reach his breaking point and I hope we see him evolve into a real monster both physically and mentally. I want him to act just like an animal once he evolves.

That would be great, and I know I keep mentioning it, but I don't have faith in Sony to show an extremely menacing side of a villain after what they did with Harry's original Goblin transformation.

I realize the final version in the film was still terrifying, but I don't want them holding back like that with villains.

In regards to S6, they need to make us feel like Spidey is in deep ****.

I thought spider-man's fault in the comics was centralised around the fact that he may have snapped her neck with his web?

As in, he wasn't at fault until the moment when Gwen was falling off the bridge?

Can someone help me out here, perhaps Joker has scans of that copy? I'm a little lost at the moment. When does Gwen's death start to be Peter's fault? Before the encounter on the bridge or when he tries to "save" her? :)

That was comical. The super slow mo of Gwen's death made you see it coming a mile away. The beauty of Gwen's death in the comics was it was quick, brutal, and not drawn out. She fell, her neck snapped, Peter thought for a moment she was alive until the horrible realization hits him that's she's dead.

Worst of all it was her own fault. Peter tried his best to keep her away from here, he even webbed her to a car, but Gwen "This MY choice nobody else's" Stacy put herself in the firing line and died for it.

It didn't get the themes of the original right at all.
Exactly.

The entire scene was so hilarious that it almost distracts from how sexist the whole thing is. Gwen does this big speech about it's HER choice and that she's doing it against her boyfriend and father's wishes....and when she gets killed for it, the message becomes "If only Gwen had listened to the two most important MEN in her life!".

Granted, that probs wasn't the intention but JESUS! :down

Sexist?

That's a new one...

By next week TASM2 will be promoting slavery.

lmao

Funny thing is, reddit LOVES the film, and that sub is bigger than here.

Try saying something negative about TASM2 there, you'll get downvoted to death

Reddit. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Except maybe 4chan.

Reddit is pretty pg13...

Just putting it out there that this site is pretty anti-TASM2 relatively.

4chan hates both spidey series, but Garfield in particular

Youtube seems more pro TASM2

facebook is just 12 year olds with ice buckets at the moment

But this isn't a website that discusses a radio show, or a sports team, or even an entire movie franchise. This is a CB website.

I've been here almost 10 years, I know which CB movies are the upper echelon, which are the middle of the road ones and which ones are the worst based on the general opinions here.

the thing with the spinoff is that we're suppose to root for the six but i hope we root for spiderman in the climax and in the third movie and make the whole situation like spiderman and peter are actually in danger.

can someone explain to me what 4chan i like? i've been hearing alot of bad mentionings about 4chan.

You mean this isn't ESPN.com ?

If ESPN told me that Days of Future Past was a good movie, I'd take it with a grain of salt. :o

Oh of course.

This is probably the best place to go for CBM discussion.

That being said, there's always a diversity of opinions everywhere :)

Oh, Spider-Knight, please don't go to 4chan, you'll get slaughtered...

CBM.com is pretty hostile towards this movie and i really don't know if they are hostile towards every film when it comes to arguing about marvel, WB, and the fanbase.

i won't go to 4chan LOL. i just want to know what 4chan is like. i also heard something about them being disgusting or something.

It wasn't believed that Peter's web killed her. Goblin pretty much cleared that one up in the very moment it happened, clarifying that it was the fall that killed her;

But Peter himself wasn't sure, but he still blamed himself anyway. Writer Gerry Conway admitted that he added the "snap" into the story to torture readers with the distinct possibility that Spider-Man himself may have inadvertently killed Gwen, a "snap" that neither Spider-Man nor the Green Goblin heard (hence the Goblin's assumption in The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #121 that the shock of the fall killed Gwen - "Romantic idiot! She was dead before your webbing reached her! A fall from that height would kill anyone—before they struck the ground!").

In The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #125 (October 1973), Roy Thomas wrote in the letters column that "it saddens us to have to say that the whiplash effect she underwent when Spidey's webbing stopped her so suddenly was, in fact, what killed her. In short, it was impossible for Peter to save her. He couldn't have swung down in time; the action he did take resulted in her death; if he had done nothing, she still would certainly have perished. There was no way out." They also explained that Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas, and Stan Lee had decided that she had to die because Peter Parker wasn't ready for marriage, and the relationship was too often off and on again.

Real word experts claim that in reality it would have. Physicist James Kakalios shows in his book The Physics of Superheroes that, consistent with Newton's laws of motion, the sudden stop would have killed Gwen. The comic book Civil War: Casualties of War: Captain America/Iron Man (2007) concurred that the proximate cause of death was the sudden stop during a high-speed fall.

But in the comic books the blame came from her being targeted because she was his girlfriend. She was killed because of her association with him. She didn't know she was dating Spider-Man. She didn't know the danger she was possibly in, the risks that came with being with Peter. She died for it. Though the comics later confirmed the fall killed her, not his webbing. In the fourth issue of Marvels, the police forensic scientist reports that she died from the shock of the fall prior to her neck breaking, placing the blame on the Green Goblin and not Spider-Man.

Which makes sense because whiplash couldn't have killed Gwen- because there is no whiplash with Spidey's webbing. As the movies so effectively display, Spidey's webbing is not like rope, which is unyielding. Spidey's webbing stretches with a bungee effect. In fact, if it didn't stretch, it would never have reached Gwen at all. So once the webline had a firm hold on Gwen's leg, it would have stretched with her weight, coming to a gradual, not a sudden stop. If the webbing didn't work this way, Spidey would regularly wrench his arms out of their sockets.

What's always puzzled me is that people have never looked at the most obvious culprit- the hit that sent Gwen flying from the bridge in the first place. Look at the scene- Spidey is reaching for Gwen- but the Goblin swoops in and hits her before Spidey can reach her. We're talking about a solid metal device, with sharp edges, flying at top speed, which can easily carry a load of more than 1000 lbs. (If you go by the movie that increases to several tons). The impact would have certainly been fatal. Fact is, if the comics weren't censored, the impact would have likely cut Gwen in two.

Sorry for the information overload, but I didn't want to give you a half baked answer.

Exactly.
