Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

I suppose you've used the "Here's a book you can read with your young daughter" angle.

That's the only line that makes them think about it.... for a few seconds.

:csad:

Who, us? Rabid? :woot: (too bad we can't get that smiley to foam at the mouth).

That would definitely be hardcore. We should campaign for the foaming mouth smiley.

Who does everyone think should be May's primary love interest?

I feel I gotta say something, but I'm not sure what. Ummm ... Eugene doesn't give me a good vibe. He came off too strong in #1. But if Simone's gonna make a play for him, I'd like to see how all this develops. But long-term primary love interest? Good question. Whoever it may be, I just want a good story out of it. :yay:

We can't say nobody anymore. The first issue sold 47,304 and was No. 35 on the October list. Plus, the zero issue was No. 70 and sold 27,239 issues -- better than Runaways for the month. I think we can expect to see Amazing Spider-Girl level off in the mid-30,000s, which should keep cancellation at bay.

So a better way to phrase it is "one of the BEST Marvel comics that NOT ENOUGH people are reading."

So we still have to win more fans for Mayday, but I think we've got a lot more breathing room than we've ever had.

Nice! Really happy with the numbers. Can't wait to see how Avengers Next is doing. My shop has a ton of copies, and they are selling fast! Hope it can spin off into its own ongoing series.

Some of the stuff I hear sometimes on some of these boards are people trying to find excuses for why they shouldn't bother with Spider-Girl. Good gravy. Forget about all the cancelatons and just try the new series and see if they like it. How simple is that? Heh. Our work ain't done yet.

They don't have subscription forms in the digest anymore. We've got two Spider-Girl digests coming out in May of next year. Guessing from past performances, those two will probably sell between 100,000 and 150,000 combined. HUGE opportunity to entice more mass market readers into getting a subscription to the monthly! Maybe we could write a letter or two to David Gabriel, VP of Marketing, and Jeff Youngquist, the collections editor, about maybe putting a subscription form or a link to an online subscription form in those digests? Kinda say something like, "If you like the digest you just read, support the monthlies with a subscription" or something?

Do you think that we have really seen the last of the Symbiote?

I would love to find out that it had one last child. Perhaps a very tiny runty one that isn't very strong and will take a long time to develop into a full living costume

Out of gratitude to its parent May could attempt to care for it perhaps turning it into a webshooter when Spider-Girl or braclet when May. She could teach it all kinds of tricks that would help her fight crime.

Of course she would have to hide it from her parents who would want nothing more than to get the creepy thing off their daughter.

But eventually they find out that the little runt's main talent is healing injuries so they let her keep it for now.

Can anyone think of a name for it?

I hope your guys are reading "New" A-Next, 'cause unlike, Last Hero/Planet standing, its pretty damn good.

Oh yeah! I'm loving the heck out of it. Thor-Girl rocks! My LCS ordered a ton of copies. I hope it spins off into its own ongoing series.

I liked both of the previous minis. The only problem with "Planet" is Tom crammed too much into the last issue. It should have been a six-issue series. Once again, it was the opposite of current Marvel where a lot of six-issue series should be five or four issues.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Black Tarantula. I've read his profiles but I don't know anything about his personality or his interactions with May.

If you could post a few scans that would be great.

Well, all you need to know for the story is that The Black Tarantula has a thing for Spider-Girl.

And that's going to be interesting knowing that the Black Tarantula is going to be getting involved in all of this. That means a Hobby/Black Tarantula battle and I'm looking forward to those two bad asses going at it.

The latest issue wasn't too bad though. Kind of thought that the villain involved was rather corny, but the book itself wasn't too bad.

It will be interesting to see if Spider-Girl might find herself rooting for the Hobgoblin. A guy who wants to kill her is easier to deal with than a guy who wants to mate with her.

I don't think so. After all the Hobgoblin has been nothing but evil to May and her friends. He even killed Venom which had just redeemed herself.

If anything she will most likely try to get Wilson's legacy so that she can destroy it.

Besides does she know the Black Tarantula's true intentions?

Despite all the flowers, clothes, tech support (aimed at corrupting her to the dark side and to his organization, naturally), she's absolutely clueless.

Good thing she doesn't have her driver's license. She has a hard time reading signs.

What did everyone think of the latest MC2 issues?

I adored that Mad Dog turned out to be a fairly okay guy and that May was frustrated that he wasn't evil so she couldn't pound him. Then she had to save him and ended up on tv which made her even more upset.

A-Next #5 yes yes yes! I love the new lineup!

I've actually been enjoying A-Next a lot more than ASG for some strange reason. All the characterization in New A-Next was excellent, everyone on the team or Sylene herself, was given a stand out personality, and actual motivations. And the entire book from the story about good guys fighting bad guys *gasp!* with actual colorful comic book art, took me back to a much simpler time

Meanwhile in ASG, my major gripe is May's life isn't really in either crime fighting or the Parker homestead, its caught in between with her school and social life. And I could live with that, if the social life, actually consisted of more than Eugene *****ing, and Davida telling him to ****. Peter barely shows up in each issue, and M.J's purpose now is to walk around with Ben and check in on May. Characters like Felicity(glared at May in issue 1)Kaine, Normie, and Brenda have all vanished entirely from the story. The book is still quite good, character wise, art wise, and story wise but it needs that extra umph! to make me sweat out Wednesdays again

A quick tidbit of information for all Spider-Girl fans: The new character Mad Dogg is based physically after the guy who runs the comic shop that I go to. Apparently he's good friends with Ron Frenz and put him in the design for Mad Dogg. Even put his last name on the character too. I just thought that was pretty cool. :woot:

In his blog at Marvel.com, Executive Editor Tom Brevoort had these enthusiastic (and very well reasoned) words about us:

Protestors need to take their cues from the SPIDER-GIRL fans. Now, those cats are organized, and intelligent about what they do, and as a result, they've saved that title from cancellation on multiple occasions. How do they do it? Simple--they realize what needs to be done to achieve their goal, and they work to get it done. They know that only an upturn in sales can prevent their preferred title from going under, and so they organize, get the word out, buy additional copies and get them into the hands of new readers, people who are most likely to actually be hooked and pick up subsequent issues. They contact the buyers for bookstore chains, and ask them to begin carrying SPIDER-GIRL, both in single issues and in collected form. And they don't just whine about it, as most of these fan protestors do--they go out there and get the job done. I can tell you for certain, having seen it in action on multiple occasions, that every time those fans become active, we can track an actual increase in SPIDER-GIRL sales--it's a significant enough increase to show up. And that's what makes the difference--and what the fans who protested the end of Priest's BLACK PANTHER or Dan Slott's THING or any of a dozen other titles didn't manage to do.

If us Spider-Girl fans would constantly be pushing to get more readers ALL THE TIME instead of just when it's near cancellation we could take Spider-Girl to the top ten. :wow:

I've finally caught up with the last two issues, both very good. I can't wait to see what happens between the Hobgoblin and Black Tarantula. I'm absolutely loving this title right now... it definately doesn't sell as well as it probably should (although I haven't really seen the recent figures, so I might be wrong).

started getting the new series regularly now (as opposed to my buy 5, wait 30 issues buy another 5 attitude during untitled) its good but seems to be missing something I can't quite put my finger on atm, hmmmmn
