So someone who doesn't partake in social media is strange? I actually have more respect for Johansson not feeling obligated to get one.

Can you imagine the vitrol that would've been thrown her way if she had social media? It's bad enough from the armchair social crusaders, but add that she's a woman which automatically brings out the misogynists too.

It plays during the ending credits instead. I missed it too, but I found Clint Mansell and Lorne Balfe's score to be pretty impressive.

strange that it was not over the opening credits, and I agree with Roose the score WAS excellent

Yoko Kanno created the best sound for Ghost in the Shell anyway.

Maybe the studios will question their white washing casting then? I can't believe it made under the 25M estimate which I thought sounded low to begin with.
I don't think Paramount will change but other studios seem to be making strides in the right direction.

Lionsgate said they will do more diverse casting after Gods Of Egypt bombed and faced backlash over their casting choices.

Disney seem to be serious about not whitewashing their live action fairytale movies.

A Middle eastern Aladdin and Jasmine for their Aladdin movie. A Chinese cast for live action Mulan. A Mowgli in The Jungle Book who was of Indian heritage.

Scarjo would of got the Finn Jones treatment if she was on twitter for GITS.

If this movie is good for one thing, it's the concept art book. Really cool stuff.

While the 1997 Anime film is a hard act to follow, I thought this was a fairly faithful representation of the Anime film. I know that the Anime film is based off a graphic novel series but I never read the series.

Visually the film is spectacular and I think did a great job of representing the Anime films "Blade Runner" type future.

8/10

Yoko Kanno's music for SAC was amazing, its terrible that Origa died though. Her voice gave songs like Inner Universe an ethereal quality.

The Matrix was influenced not only by Ghost in the Shell. Action aesthetic of The Matrix was influenced by anime in general, it's just Ghost in the Shell is the most recognizable. I think the only real influence on the world of The Matrix - link cables.

Yep, I read that article about The Invisibles long time ago, but forgot about it. I never read the actual series. Given the amount of similarities, it really felt unfair that Wachowskis never mentioned it (as far as I know). Cameron had to insert the acknowledgment message in The Terminator credits, but I think it happened after some legal battles with Harlan Ellison. It looks like Grant Morrison decided not to bother.

Maybe that's the reason why Wachowskis never made a great film after The Matrix - they just never encountered a great source to pick from after that.

Anyway, yeah, I personally don't consider The Matrix to be a western adaptation of Ghost in the Shell.

Only 18 million first weekend?!?...

Someone needs a paddlin.. :o

ScarJo in that suit will do.

what the studio did here is brilliant. They wanted to show a before and after image. but the difference between the cgi body and her real body(blue suit) is to noticeable. haha

What is your obsession with "proving" that Scarlett Johanson's body isn't as great as the film makes it out to be? You keep commenting on this as if it matters deeply. She's playing a character with an android body, who cares?

Because hollywood is wasting money? Her original suit and body was good enough for the final movie. I think i did more posts about cgi bodies on male actors every year than on female

Hollywood wastes money all the time. I think the whole film looks like a waste of money.

Actually I from those pictures I rather find more attractive the picture of SJ's real figure. The lines are more relaxed and graceful.

Would the use of a cgi body be more because of the performing athletic stunts beyond the ability of the actress and which would be too noticeable to use a stunt body.

I think movies are too cgi-focused at times. Sometimes all sophisticated effort that is not needed and the real options are more pleasing, cheaper, and less likely to derrail the narrative of a film.
