Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 1

There was also this whole piece in the lore how even if they didn't drink the blood, being surrounded by all the fel-energy that the corrupted orcs were using eventually turned their skin green, minus actually being corrupted. Could go either way with her.

Yup.

Fel-Magic is highly mutative. Durotan and Draka didn't drink the blood of manorath and Thrall was still born green.

Very popular franchise + it's been a while since we had a high-quality fantasy film. I personally like what I see and I'm definitely gonna watch it. I think it will do good. And I seriously hope it will launch Blizzard cinematic universe.

It's a popular franchise but I honestly doubt the name Warcraft has any real value for the general audience. Gamers will flock to see the movie, but regular Joe won't be convinced by the title alone.

There will be more trailers, posters, promo materials closer to the date. It's not gonna be name alone.

Really? In that case the visuals are really impressive. Wow, I thought it would be twice as much.
CGI is really great given the budget, maybe outside a few backgrounds.

World of Warcraft is part of pop culture, the general audience does know it. I mean there's been plenty of jokes or gags or references to WoW in movies, tv, etc.

I don't know anything about Warcraft except it's a known pc game, but I look forward to seeing the movie.

I wonder why Paula Patton has a full body shot in this poster. I can't for the life of me figure why. :o

Why not? She's one of major characters in the movie.

That was sarcasm. I was implying that she's not in a battle stance like the rest of them and is just there for orc hotness.

To be fair only Llane is in battle stance there. And that mage forgot his name. The rest stand still.

Agree on orc hotness, though. Paula is one cute orc.

The fact that the game is popular is part of pop culture. What the story actually entails, nobody knows except the players. I would argue that the general audience is more exposed to those "addicted to WoW. can't get my life back on track" stories than the actual content of the game.

It's like that joke about the suicide bomber going to heaven and being disappointed in finding out that his 72 virgins are just guys playing World of Warcraft. :yay:

Yeah, but the stories did go to hell when Warcraft became a MMO. :p But I mean, the story in 1 is basicly simple and the posters and trailers have already given it. You have two races, 1 planet. It's an Alien invasion movie done by using fantasy.

Warcraft's lore was at it's peak with 3, then it went downhill with each MMO Expansion pack.

Yea, WC III + FT were really great. And I loved story from StarCraft 1 + BW and Diablo I and II + LoD as well. :woot:

Yeah, those are what made Blizzard the company they are.

I mean, their focus on gameplay and accessibility is wunderbar, but their stories are even more cliché than before.

Yeah, give the rights back to Games Workshop.

I played WCII and III ages ago and I don't remember a thing from them except for "dabu" and "swobu". Also played WOW as Draenei a bit, but not much, so I don't know anything about WOW beyond Draenei's crash landing. Having said that, I still very much want to watch the movie.

I don't quite agree, but mostly. I do think some of the later expansions, especially Cataclysm and Mists were superior to the base game and earlier expansions like Burning Crusade.

WC3 and Frozen Throne was the best though. I definitely agree with that.

WC3 definitely had the best story, although I'll say the Wrath of the Lich King expansion had a good one.

If they aren't going to use the visual designs and in the case of Final Fantasy the eccentricities of the designs they might as well throw all the other absurdities out. And in final fantasy that would pretty much be everything. Why are swords the line that can't be crossed and must be absolutely realistic in the design?

And I really don't think putting a large sword in live action is any different from something like the Assassin's Creed leap of faith and eagle vision both of which will feature in the AC movie. Both are absurd. Actually the sword is less absurd because it's actually possible to use a large sword if the person can lift it and knows how to use it. It's no different from any large weapon.

And looking at the whole thing:

As far as weapons go that sword is no more absurd than a heavy large battle axe. And it doesn't look out of place in the latest tv spot.
Because the actors need to be able to wield the weapons in a effective looking manner. Have you seen how you actually fight with a large sword? It is nothing like "normal" sword play.

The design is a bit over the top, but ultimately respects the manner in which it was used in a real medieval combat. I personally don't give a damn, since it's fantasy and has all kinds of impossible fantasy creatures. It's not a gritty fantasy setting like Witcher.

The design is a bit over the top

"Over the top" is what WarCraft design is all about...:woot:

And I don't think it's easy to translate that into movie with actual people in it. It might look really ridiculous if it's done badly.

Still not sold on this. And I really, REALLY want it to be good. But right now, nothing I'm seeing from this is exciting me for it. :(

Telling Warcraft to tune down it's over the top elements is like complaining about comic accurate costumes and demanding black leather versions.
